I’m almost in week 6 right now and I absolutely had hunger after surgery. Like, a lot. Like smack everyone who brought their food in front of me on my liquid diet hungry. I didn’t get sick so I was just unhappy and hungry a lot. Once I started soft food it really helped. Now that I’m released to eat All food I can tell you that my hunger is satisfied waaaay quicker than before. Like, never in my life would a piece of turkey wrapped in one slice of cheese make me feel full and satisfied. Now it does for a few hours easily. So I still get hungry but it is much more quickly and easily satisfied. Everyone has such different expectations and experiences here that it can be hard to figure out and I think you really can’t guess what it will be like for you until it is done. -
Don’t do it. You can kick it. If I did it after 20 years, I believe anyone can. And I know exactly how hard it is. Once you make it to the year mark you will never look back. I don’t miss it at all anymore. Really, life without cigarettes is way better. I promise.

So annoyed and frustrated right now. After over a year of waiting and coming to seminars, groups, pre ops etc and then insurance saying I had to use a different surgeon due to COE requirements I was one appointment away from scheduling. Everything approved and had a single pre op class left in a few weeks. Just got a call today that my SECOND surgeon resigned. Now they have to resubmit with another COE surgeon at this COE. New surgeons ratings online are considerably lower. I mean I’m not so desperate I want just anyone rearranging my internal organs🤬. I’m so angry and frustrated with this process I’m losing hope. On top of this I was in the ER just a couple days ago and diagnosed with Bell’s Palsy. So half my face is paralyzed. I’m so low right now I can’t see any light at the end of the tunnel. Just feeling very hopeless and needed to vent where other people may have dealt with the same red tape and hurdles and hopelessness.

June 2019 Surgery Siblings!

https://www.shespeaks.com/Bariatric-friendly-Baked-Ricotta-Recipe here’s the recipe. I think it is in recipes here too. I just went ahead and made it to get rid of the giant tub of ricotta. I had to 4x it bc I bought a 32 oz. so I now have 16 servings. The kids will eat it. Maybe husband too with some breadsticks or something. It tasted good but is very heavy. Eat it slow😉 -
Well, I had surgery 6/4 and am doing well☺️. When I met the new surgeon I didn’t have any reservations with him vs the other two that I met. And for 20-30k dollars difference, I am going with my insurance company’s choice. The bells palsy has improved but still isn’t 100 percent back to normal. I’m hoping I will see the final return to normal in the coming months. It was a super frustrating process and even with me doing a lot of my own legwork, I got different answers from insurance depending on who and when I called. Glad I made it through that part. Now to get this weight off.

Not sure how long you are between purée and soft food or what your dr calls the difference but mine never did a purée phase. Today is the first day I haven’t had cottage cheese in a few weeks. Tuna salad(basically with a tiny bit of relish and lite mayo) at lunch, eggs with cheese in the am, and I try to make fish or shredded meat for dinner that everyone can eat but some days I just send them for pizza and I have tuna again or leftovers. Canned green Beans and cauliflower and broccoli even if it is just a bite. I like veggies more than meat so I have to get them in after my Protein. I did bean Soup with ham. I have the stuff to do the ricotta bake but it just doesn’t appeal to me in the heat. And I only got the cues twice on liquids. Once very early with yogurt when I ate too quickly. The other with grits and I thought I was dying. I had to go lie down🤦♀️😕 I’ve not made that error since. -

Hope you’re doing better and found a competent dr. -
Are you planning on doing 90 day fiancé? Bc in my experience you don’t really get to see someone and their true colors until weeks or months into dating sometimes. To exclude SO many “imperfect” people before you even know them seems pretty high maintenance. Just being honest. I think maybe looking for love at a support group isn’t a terrible idea.
-
Very possible. It’s gone now but I know it will return and I know I won’t go through my life eating nothing but grilled chicken and yogurt. Also, I get it with the crazy posts and admittedly I should have said I wasn’t planning on making it now, but I also feel I shouldn’t have to. An appropriate and kind response, IMO, might be “There are some options but nothing appropriate at 3 weeks out” or “probably nothing that will taste authentic and it’s not a great idea to eat something like that, anyway. Aside from Protein and Calcium it offers little nutrition”. Many things would be better than to make someone look foolish or uninformed because they posted about a craving. That’s a form of bullying in my book. I believe in lifting each other up. We all have struggled with our weight but there’s a social ranking here just like high school, which is crap, bc all of us are or were fat. I’ve been lurking here for a very long time before joining. I started my journey in 4/2018. This was one of the first times I started a thread. Maybe the second ever. Never in a million years did I know I would get jumped on for asking for suggestions. It’s ok but I felt I should explain myself. There are always 2 sides.
-
So today I had my first strong craving for a food. I’m 3 weeks out and don’t plan on going back to bread at all bc I know it’s a very big weakness for me. Any suggestions for a grilled cheese alternative? I made pretzels with protein powder, egg whites and psyllium powder the other day but I don’t know if I can use this same recipe to make a fake bread. Anyone find an alternative to this that was good?

Can you get a refund and find another dr you like? My surgeons office was incredible with checking prerequisites and staying on top of them. They also got preapproval from insurance long before the surgery was scheduled or any tests were done and all the things that were expensive on the front end. I felt the same way when everything including the website said I was covered and then went through part of the process and found my husbands employer refused to pay and opted out of WLS coverage even though it was standard for my plan. I had to wait 7 months, change insurance, then change surgeons. Then change surgeons again. The whole while I had a 48-50 BMI and declining health but I did not give up. When I had my last meeting with my surgeon he said “congratulations, only 50% of people make it this far” and it sunk in. And I totally see why. The process can be brutal for some of us.
-
Yep-I feel the same way. It’s scary and like being a heroine addict walking around all day having heroine served to you with every meal, offered to you for free, at every office event, party, church function, etc. it’s really not easy but I quit smoking after 20 years and didn’t break for one minute, even when I lost my son. If I made it through that, pretty sure I can do anything.

Ladies, I’m in South Dayton/North Cinci -
I might try that. I’ve been looking forward to eventually trying a cauliflower crust. I like cauliflower a lot so it doesn’t sound bad to me at all. Maybe even more appealing than normal pizza.
-
I have bought some of the zero carb breads but they're still in the freezer. (I think I'm afraid of them, to be honest.) So I don't know whether they toast up or not. Lol that’s funny. I would probably be the same. LMK if you try it😂

Fluff, I second everything you said. I’m starting week 4, am free to eat anything fork Mashable, and feel so much better/normal/healthy than I did 2 weeks ago👍🏼and same on the shakes🤮 -
I don’t know. I think all bread is something I want to avoid but when I tried the egg white psyllium husk bread it tasted more like egg than anything so that might be ok. Will it crisp up at all on a sandwich press? Or is there anything low or no carb that will? I want to avoid carbs and bread. It will be in my best interest I think.
-
It was the flavor/texture of biting into a gooey cheesy sandwich. I can certainly wait 3-6 or however many weeks to make something, probably much longer. I wasn’t asking about now. I should have been more clear and shouldn’t have said how far out I was because I think the assumption was I would make one now. I have had several cravings since surgery. Mostly broccoli and carrots. Because I’m dying to eat something crunchy right now. Not on the plan so I am waiting until allowed. I just thought of the grilled cheese today and wanted suggestions. I was wondering what people further along have done to get rid of that craving. I’ve had the cheese crisps and they’re good(presurgery) but I think I’m looking for a suggestion of best bread replacement for toasting. My fear is bread bc I just don’t think I can even have whole grains when they’re allowed. I’m with you and don’t want to start down that slope.

And I have been. Posting. Like. This. Has. A tone. To. It. So you can say it isn’t bashing but when you say I repeat myself and finish a comment with The end. Your tone is condescending and implied. It’s ok. I am not one of “your crew” here so carry on. I just won’t post anymore but you might consider that bc some people won’t call you out. They will just delete their account.

Wow. I didn’t ask for a verbal lashing. I posted in recipes with a question. I am on soft foods. I have followed all my doctors orders and don’t need to be reminded of why I had surgery thank you very much. Aa0 I didn’t say I was making it tonight but I was asking for suggestions because it was a strong craving that hit me today in between my egg salad and shredded chicken chili I had for dinner. I noticed a tendency of new members to be ridiculed for not being part of the “wls elite” on this site. I have seen you and several others make nasty posts to new members asking questions. Some may be trolls. Some may not. I didn’t ask for a coach to yell at me. I have a dr and a nutritionist. I asked for suggestions. The assumption by some people here that we all are the same and need the same tough love and scolding is obnoxious. I don’t need scolded. I’m working my plan and asked an innocent question. You jumped on me for it so I probably won’t post in here again. Thanks for that. Now I’m sure 10 people will like your comment so you don’t get your feathers ruffled bc you all are the BP elite and sit higher than everyone else here to judge. Incidentally, I lost nearly 100 pounds on my own several years ago with diet and exercise. I know how to eat. I also lost a child and both my parents and used food as a coping mechanism instead of more dangerous choices. I quit smoking and had three children and and was under tremendous stress and gained. I could not get all the weight off this time and was concerned for my health. That’s why I had MY surgery. Not because I eat Fritos all day.

Finally got my surgery date... when did you cut things out?

Wow...I never thought to try it with vanilla but I will now. I was going to mention the skinny lattes, there. I don’t really order lattes but it’s nice to know there’s an option if I want to. The sugar free syrups are great and I wish more places offered similar options. One thing I’d love in particular is sugar free slushees. I went to DQ with the family and opted for a fudge bar(which was on my allowed foods list, strangely) and it was so good. Made me feel normal and was a great treat. It is artificially sweetened and only 50 calories. -

I started drinking passion tea with Splenda from Starbucks years ago and it’s something still allowed bc no caf or sugar. It tastes great if you make it at home. If you go there you have to specifically tell them no sugar only Splenda. They normally put simple syrup in it. They actually have a decaf espresso as well so you can add sf syrup for a treat. I quit soda ages ago but had one on occasion. I think it’s really important to find a doable way to make choices but not have to change everything about who you are or what you like. -
Wow!! Congratulations and great work!
