Suzi, You have found support from friends here! There are some great people on this site to help encourage us all in our low times. What you are going through right now, we have all felt. I don't know about doctors everywhere, but right after my band was placed I had a weight gain of 3 pounds. I broke down in the doctor's office. My doctor explained that I had nothing really there to restrict me from eating. I didn't know this. It would be about 8 weeks before my first fill. Then it would be a gradual filling of the ring. I had my last fill in May and that was 1-1/2 years after my surgery. You will be successful. You may need to be especially careful with what you eat right now and try to really get the exercise in. In time, the pounds will begin to melt away. It still won't be easy. I worry about nutrition, personally. I can't eat anything except soft foods and it stay down. I take vitamins, but am not sure that is the best way to get my nutrients. Keep in touch here. We will be your support. Leah

I am having the exact same problem. Gas gets trapped in my stomach after eating. I seem to have an increase in saliva/mucus production, too. My sinuses are working overtime. I wake up at night with the feeling of being about to drown. I can't eat hardly anything without it coming back up except for really soft foods like yogurt. I called my doctor. He said to take Pepcid and not to eat after 7:00 p.m. If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know as well.

Okay, please explain why anyone should be embarrassed about having weight loss surgery. Personally, I was out in the open about my surgery. I've had lots of support from the people I work with and with my family. One of the teachers at my school left for 2 years to teach in Germany. When she came back she was at least 150 pounds lighter. When asked how she did it, she replied she just stopped drinking cokes. I can understand people in the entertainment industry being hesitant about being open about this, but you know people always find out then it's like they lied about something. Stay strong in your choice of weight loss. It's a tool for achieving success. Is it really so different from lasik surgery to correct vision or even any other type of life saving surgery. As far as I see it, this IS LIFE SAVING!

Don't give up, Don. It'll happen. I wish insurance companies would wake up to the fact that this procedure is necessary for some of us that need to lose more than just a few pounds. In the long run, it gets rid of so many medical conditions it just has to be a money saver in the long run. I don't understand why it has to be so difficult. My husband needs the procedure, too. He is diabetic and has other various medical concerns. The top of my refrigerator just teems with meds he's on. I plan going to his next doctor's appointment to see if there's anything he can do to help in the process. And of course to see if his insurance will help pay. Mine would not since I am a teacher. Anyway, good luck. We'll keep you in our prayers that soon you'll get your chance.

Hi all, My doctor is Dr. Carroll from St. Dominick's, too. I had the surgery at River Oaks. The nurses there were absolutely awesome. Just the nicest...I just had my 3rd fill. It seems everytime I get a fill, I get bronchitis afterwards. I know it's not related, but it is puzzling. I live in florence, Mississippi. I've seen several people here from Brandon and Puckett. We're practically neighbors. Don, Have you had your surgery yet? I've been looking for your news...

Help finding a surgeon in Mississippi for self-pay
lhasselle replied to lolli's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Dr. Carroll is my doctor. I was banded in Dec. 2006. I've lost 75 pounds. I should exercise, but I don't. I don't sit of my tail, however, I am up and moving as I am a classroom teacher and our school took part in Let's Go Walking... Anyway, I love Dr. Carroll. He's a great doc... I was a self pay. I've had 3 fills, the last one was last week. As far as going to Mexico, I wouldn't do it personally. I want to have my physican close byso if I have complications. That's just me. Good luck in your decision, whatever it may be... -
Hi, I had lapband surgery with Dr. Carroll, too. Mine was in December of 2006. I have lost 70 pounds so far. Still have quite a bit to go but I'm losing really well now. My last fill was a week ago. Other than some strange sounds coming from my stomach after eating, I'm doing fine. I live in Florence, Mississippi.
