Hair loss & Biotin when did you start taking it?
Alikiinz posted a topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I learned from someone who had surgery before me that Biotin helps with hair loss. I am currently on the post-op liquid phase (second week) and I am taking 2 chewable Jamison multi vitamins, a B12 strip every other day, and a French caramel calcium chew 3X a day. So my question is, when can I start taking this vitamin, and also is it hard to digest? -
Symptoms you were surprised about after surgery.

So we all knew about dumping syndrome hopefully... what’s something you weren’t aware of? Personally I developed tachycardia and a fluttering/dizziness of my heart. I hope that this is temporary but I wore a heart monitor last weekend. I hope to have results soon. I am also wondering g has anyone else noticed this symptom or others like it? Any suggestions? -
Funny how it says 09 when it’s 2019!

Hey I found this post in a search for the term Tachycardia and I wanted to know more about how you are doing. I’ve also been noticing it as well. I hope you are doing well, and that you are able to respond!

Dry skin? Leathery feeling? Skin not as supple as before?
Alikiinz posted a topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
So it’s only been a little while out with my surgery. My date was on March 11th and I don’t think I’ve been getting enough water. At work I used to take breaks to fill up my water bottle and get in at least 2 kms of walking a day. Now that I’m not at work, I’ve been lazy and I’ve noticed that I haven’t been drinking enough water. My skin feels itchy and rash like to day, so I decided to try a mud mask. That tended to try my skin out even more. If anyone has been having this issue what have you found to be helpful for you? -
So I was feeling really good about myself and having dreams I was doing sit ups. I then thought ok well let’s give it a try. I did a few before on Friday. This morning I woke up with a bit of pain in my stomach. I just had Easter dinner yesterday though, so it could have been that. It’s stupid because I’m not supposed to lift more than 10 lbs, but for how long! My check up with the dr is on the 24th and my surgery date was March 11th. I’ve lost about 40 lbs. I’ve gone to the pool once so far. So do any of you think I pushed it too much?

Hey Barb I have the same issue with waking up with a dry mouth. I leave water by my bed but I think I just need to increase my intake. It could also be some of the medication but I’m not sure.
-
So back in Jan with my WI with the dr I was 297. I’m at 258 right now. Lowest was 257. I dropped 15 lbs before my surgery on March 11th, and now another 24/25. (Depending on what day). How is everyone else doing?

Did anyone stop taking their medications early? I stoped all of mine...

My worry is now that I might have ulcers because one of these ones was for acid reflux but I haven’t been having any. Anyone have any suggestions? The pharmacist things I should start it up again. It’s called lansoprazole? Any advice would be helpful if you stopped this medication. -
I tried having fish for dinner with wilted spinach and I think I ate too quickly and didn’t chew or the fish wasn’t fresh enough and I puked 🤢

The colour, the variation, the size... 💩 is a sensitive topic but we all do it... So it’s been 2 weeks out of my surgery and finally getting to have more firmer poops. The problem is before they were very runny, and still are on the mushy side, but now they are more pale in colour almost to the point of yellowy clay like colour. I have an appointment to see the dr covering for my dr and she is quite new out of college. I don’t think that she takes what I say quite seriously. For example 2 weeks ago I told her that the nurse at the hospital said my heart was a bit tacky aka tachycardia. It continued on when I got home, and every once in a while it flutters. I know it sounds like a panic attack but I’m quite sure mine isn’t... but anyways back to my poop... So I know I know... don’t google your symptoms but I already know I have a gallstone issue but I haven’t been having any pain. I just did bloodwork so I imagine that if there is a problem it will come up on there... Anyone know any remedies that have been working for you to firm up your 💩?

Waiter, Please! Eating Out after Bariatric Surgery
Alikiinz replied to Alex Brecher's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Magazine
I kind of wondered the same thing but to be honest we are not in ketosis mode any more when we’re adding in carbs. Healthy fats to clarify are not from meat. They are LDL = lousy and HDL = healthy. That’s how I remember them. An example of an HDL fat would be avocado, or coconut. This will cause lower levels of cholesterol and help with issues like blood pressure and lower the chances of clogged arteries. Stay away from saturated fats or trans fats which also cause the same issue. Basically anything that was man made like margarine which binds together unnaturally. Though I do wonder if they say that butter would be better since it’s not a trans or saturated fat? Something to think about 💭 -

Here’s an example of the “Try guys” eating the menu at a more quality place vs quantity. It would be the porterhouse for me and my husband with leftovers!! 😂🤣😂 https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=dCfVThaUrlw -
If you look at the section where it says magazine it will go into more details why flintstone is a bad choice...

Oh and the absolute worst was the dreams I was having that I was cheating in my sleep when I was on the pre-op shakes and broth & liquids. I dreamt about Portuguese custard tarts, raw potatoes eating them (I could taste them in my sleep) and then they turned into fries, icing, and I forget what else I think maybe soup? But real chunky creamy soup! One last thing I’d recommend if you want to curb your cheating? Try watching the “try guys” on YouTube finishing off everything from the Olive Garden and then his food coma reaction at the end. It gave me a new perspective on what I’m missing out on. He tried a little bit of all their 64 items on their list. Now being Canadian, I have only been to Olive Garden once. But I can see why the food is so addictive. The next thing I hope they try is the Cheesecake Factory. The reason I say this was during my liquid diet pre and post phase, I was watching a lot of cooking shows. I figure if I can “tolerate” seeing the food, watching the commercials, and conditioning myself not to give into temptation that way by enjoying the “art” of the quality of the food, I will learn to appreciate a good meal. Quality over quantity. Seeing someone scarf down food has become a real turn off to me going to some place to try a meal if it’s going to have those type of effects, I’d rather pass. -

So far cheat wise I’ve had fruit bottom yogurt x2 servings (3rd day out of hospital); 3 bites of a hot dog (bun, ketchup and mustard... go big or go home right?) (2nd week into liquid diet) a few bites of chicken and prosciutto (supposed purée diet) and started the purée diet a bit early. So far my highest cheat day was the most carbs I’ve had with an intake of maybe 40% carbs which is too high and 1000 calories or so. It was like shredded wheat cereal, crackers with hummus yogurt and avocado, yogurt and cream cheese mixed together with some tsaziki herbs, and 2/3 of a lentil soup with 2/3 of a serving of protein (I couldn’t finish the soup) and a bit of apple juice mixed in with my water. This was just on Sunday. Oh that was also when we went to a show so I brought “meals & snacks” with me (cottage cheese, apple sauce, and sf jello) because I couldn’t have anything there. Everything smelled and looked so good. There was ice cream, popcorn, fudge, maple candy treats... the worst so far was going to see friends and her child was snacking on dill popcorn. I really wanted some or some of the cookies her husband got into but I don’t like the consequences especially when visiting friends! I can handle it if it’s at home but not at a friends house! -
Flintstone are not what you want to take. Take a chewable multi vitamin such as Jamison I take 2 in the morning. This was after surgery, and I take 3 chewable calcium that are made by Jamison as well. Calcium citrate is better because it’s easier to be absorbed.

If you are going to do it talk to a dietician. The reason people do it is to shrink the liver to make the surgery easier. My liquid diet was supposed to be for 3 weeks but they moved my surgery date up so it was only 2 weeks.

Got up super late, showered and went back to bed. Lazed about til 3 pm upstairs and then finally had something to eat. Cup of fat free cottage cheese and a 1/2 of bread. Not supposed to eat bread yet but I warmed up the cottage cheese in the microwave and soaked it in the whey. Just didn’t feel like eating. Not sure what’s going on here. I guess lots of changes.

Hope I don’t regret it... not even a week post op and I had a small nibble of chicken and 4 gulps of apple juice... Not sure how to calculate it but that baked chicken looked so good. My husband should have just baked one for himself and kept the rest for later so that I wasn’t tempted. Earlier I was asking him what smelled like oil... he said that he spilled something in the oven and I swear when he was baking the chicken it almost caught fire. I asked him to use the toaster oven instead. It worked out well as it tasted yummy. I am so bad that I picked at a few of the chicken bits that had stuck to the pan... mmm drippings lol so bad.... Then I said ok that’s it... and dumped the pan into the wash... Anyone experienced cheating with regrets?

So I was having a couple cups of coffee with cream (as a treat) and it was so hot when I was chewing gum it kinda melted and I swallowed it! Anyone ever done this? I’m only second week in to my operation. (March 11th was my date) I hear that swallowing gum and the time it takes to digest is an old wives tale but what can I do? Should I be worried?
-
By the way I’m not 100% sure now if I did or not because I did spit out my gum before but if anyone has done this please comment!
