How long before you went back to work?
med28thmed replied to artsie's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Desk job, went back after a week. On your first few weeks, make sure you use arm rests or tables to push yourself up from sitting position to avoid straining your open cut. Also, I used the velcro wrap around support they provided at the hospital during my walks on my first few weeks. Good Luck! Listen to your body. Slow down if you feel pained. -
AWESOME! Congrats on the weight lost! I'm on my 8th week. Yes, I remembered half a pound every day on the first month. Weight loss has slowed down for me now, about 2 pounds a week. I'm walking more and incorporating more physical activities also. There are days when I swear my scale is broken coz I'm doing everything I'm suppose to and 3 days later, scale won't budge. I think i'm just naturally an impatient person. Good Luck. Vitamins. Sip. Walk.

Terrible procrastination
med28thmed replied to allisonjrasmussen's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This will also depend on your current weight. I lost 17 pounds in 2 weeks, and I cheated a little. Start NOW, if you really want this. Drink plenty of water and track your walking. -
Excited for you! Congrats!

What you just said is sooo depressing and yet it's the truth! I'm on my 5th week and I can also eat anything. My weight loss has slowed down tremendously this week. I'm still trying to stay under 1200 calories but boy it is hard. I'm walking about 40 minutes daily and I'm avoiding carbs. This week I lost a whopping (1) pound. Hang in there. I choose to fight and win this battle.

How are you getting in enough protien
med28thmed replied to Porthous's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Aside from taking multi vitamins, which I take twice daily, I also take calcium 3x per day. I'm only 5'0 and based on my gender and height, I should consume 46grams of protein daily. I have a Yogurt a day (16g) and either Almonds/Nuts (14g) or 2 eggs (12g), or cottage cheese (12g). Of course from your meat also when you eat your meals. -
They want you walking as soon as you're able to prevent blood clots forming in your legs. Once you're out of the hospital, be sensitive to your body. Listen to it. Slow down a bit if you're feeling pained. Walk longer if you feel good. Hospital provided a velcro cloth to wrap around my stomach I used it when I walked. Good Luck. Keep us posted on your progress.

My doctor said popsicles and cup of hot broth also counts as fluids.

It’s a week tomorrow I had my sleeve .. no weight loss yet
med28thmed replied to Feelinghopefulnow's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was 211 on the day of my surgery and stayed at the hospital for 2 nights. When I left the hospital and weighed myself, I was at 220.... 9 pound gain! It's the IVs and fluids that they put in the body. Don't you worry friend, you will lose the weight. Concentrate on healing, sipping your water and walk walk walk. -
I was eating pretty much everything on my week 5 but very slowly and little portion. I can't drink another protein shake. These are my favorite protein foods: 2 eggs (12 g each) so that's 24g Yogurt 13 g Can of Tuna 25 g cup of pumpkin seeds 12 g Try the multivitamin gummies. I heard they work if you are having a hard time swallowing.

It gets easier once you're able to eat yogurt, cottage cheese, mashed potatoes, refried beans. Hang in there. It gets better for sure. -
February 2019 weight loss buds
med28thmed replied to TheMarine79's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I keep reminding myself that I will eventually lose the weight if I keep doing what I'm supposed to do. I'm naturally just very impatient. Sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night to pee, then I go check my weight. I've been stuck at 190 for 4 days then yesterday..."Hallelujah"....189.2 lol. -
Thanks, good to know. Will check Medisafe out.

I take Centrum multi vitamins with Iron. Between Centrum and Calcium, I take them 5x throughout the day. I start with my Calcium when I wake up with my B12. Then every 3 hours I take my Vitamins, then Calcium, then Vitamins again then Calcium. It took awhile to get used to it. I think sometimes, I even overtake them because I forget whether I took them already or not, so I just take them again. ngek.

Hands down the first 2 weeks. I felt miserable just eating broth and jello and protein shakes. I started eating soft foods on my 9th day. I know, my doctor says soft foods on the 3rd week but I just couldn't wait any longer. Also it took me the whole first month to train myself to eat slowly and to stop when full. Needless to say, I was throwing up frequently in the beginning.

tortoise... 😅 funny... Congrats, You're doing an Excellent job. Everyone lose at their own pace. I really don't want to lose my hair. I'm sipping my water, I'm taking my Vitamins/Calcium, and hitting my 46 grams of protein daily because I'm trying my hardest to not lose my hair. Hopefully it's enough. Oh, also one episode of 600 lb life, the man had problems with his teeth because of Protein and calcium deficiency. I went to the dentist yesterday, so far no cavities... hope it stays that way. So with your 2 meals, do you think you're able to eat enough protein? My ready protein snacks: Beef Jerkies, Slim Jim, Yogurt, Pumpkin Seeds, Almonds -
Good Luck! So happy for you! Congrats!

Week after surgery and I'm struggling
med28thmed replied to Bonines's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
It is so normal to feel the way you're feeling right now. The light at the end of the tunnel is so so close for you, You're almost there!!! YOu got this. I remembered, I was putting cereal, chicken, steak in my mouth on my second week just to chew and taste it, then I'd spit it out. I also HATED the protein shakes. Good Luck. Hope to hear your progress here soon. I'm sure it will be a happier version of you soon enough :-) -

I did the same thing. I switched to Decaf 2 weeks before my surgery and now I'm back to drinking my medium size morning cup at the office. I felt guilty at first, and I didn't think about it anymore until your post. lol :-) -
I hope by now you're already at the doctor's office. You're barely on your 3rd week right? and if I'm not mistaken, you can now introduce your stomach to very soft stuff, very slowly, but you're on the right track if you're at the doctors. Your doctor can give you the best advise and check you if you're healing well.... Not your neighbor, not your friends, not this discussion group. It is critical to listen to your doctor. I wish you all the best. I'm sorry you're going thru all these hardship and frustration. Keep us posted.

Congratulations! So excited for you! Keep up the good work!

Salt for me makes me retain water. The other day I had a lot of Pumpkin seeds and saw a pound gain, but lost it real quickly and then some the next day. -

Hi Sheribear, I'm averaging about 3 pounds a week as well. I get impatient myself and very frustrated. But you know what? We should be proud of the 3 pounds. When I attended Weight Watchers way back when, the coach will say "Go to the produce section of your grocery store and lift a 3 pound potato bag". Those are heavy, and we should be proud of our accomplishments, every pound counts! Congratulations on your weight loss! Keep it up. -

yummmm! I love sashimi! I also started eating my favorite salmon/Tuna Poke salads after 5 1/2 weeks, no problem. I just had to take food home and eat it later, and then again later.
