My whole journey started in June of 2018 when my older sister died 2-3 weeks after knee surgery. (We are like biological twins 11 years apart. Have the same allergies, the same voice, etc.) She was overweight and smoked but was only 56 when she died. This was a real wake up call for me to do something (again) about my own weight. It feels (or now felt) like a ticking time bomb that I too could die in less than 10 years if I didn't do something (even if I've never smoked). So I finally turned to my doctor for help and this time the attitude had changed. As a result, I got the help I needed in the form of Gastric Bypass surgery in May 2019 and I've gone from there. I think about my sister all the time and never thought that I would be the last person alive in my family. I always thought that I would have her. So weight loss is a very deeply personal thing for me. I have to do it. I have to live on so that I can be the survivor that she never got to be.
