Greetings from Sizzling Texas!! I joined the "band" wagon this morning. Went in at 6:00am, surgery at 7:00am and was home by noon.. I am enjoying my nectar Protein Whey drinks, the one I have tastes like a Pina Colada!!! YUMMY!!! I got mine at the Vitamin Shoppe, they have tons of flavors.. I didn't know it but I also had a Hernia!!! They repaired that while in there.. The only pain I have is where my rib cage and my muscle wall have come apart. It happened in March when I had my gall bladder taken out.. Other than that doing great!!:tt2::thumbup:

I am purchasing the Nectar protein whey from the Vitamin shoppe. They sell it at my Drs. office but I found it at the Vitamin shoppe for less.. They have lots of flavors.. Chocolate, Vanilla, Carribean Cooler, Roadside Lemonade. Iced Tea, Cookies and Cream, Some kind of Green Apple.. and others I can't remember.. They are 2lbs containers for about $32.00.. other places have them online but shipping will cost you more.. My Dr. sells them for $50.. I want a variety as I am not a big sweet person..

My surgery is also on the 25th.. I am not required to do the pre-op diet. I asked about it and he said now if you can do that then you don't need the surgery. They do have you on the liquids after surgery but he is pretty aggressive after surgery getting you back on solids.. I think it takes about 4-6 weeks. They take you through nutrition classes and fitness classes. I have a list of things to eat/drink after surgery and then after 2 weeks I go back and learn more of what I can introduce.. My surgery will take about 30-45 minutes..

in what order did you do all the pre-op requirements?
waikiki replied to kplant's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
First I went to a seminar and called my insurance to make sure my procedure was covered under my plan.. I had to follow certain criteria on their website in order for it to be covered. There really wasn't an "order" just had to have it all done.. 6 month diet, psych eval, etc.. the surgeon has an extended list he sends in along with the insurance list to make double sure all of our T's are crossed and our I's are dotted... it was covered at 100%.. It did take from August until now to get it all done and my surgery is scheduled for June 25th... Good luck and it will take some time but it is well worth it!! Hang in there... :behindsofa: -
Has anyone used Dr. Stewart and his crew in Denton? I have my pre-op on Tuesday and my surgery scheduled on the 25th.. I just adore his staff and Leah has been great!!! Just wondering how far along others are and how your experiences have been with your band...

Here is his website with all of his info on self-pay Weight Loss Specialists of North Texas - Dr Daryl Stewart, bariatric surgeon, performs Roux-en-Y gastric bypass and LAP-BAND his staff will walk you through their payment plans... they are very nice. The hospital that I am going to North Texas Hospital couldn't say enough great things about him at my pre-op this morning... -

Jazzy Junes 2008...What do you do? Where are you from?
waikiki replied to Apples2's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Up until a year ago I worked in the recreation field for 8 1/2 years. I programmed summer camps, preschool fun stuff.. I took some time off to be with my kids and while my son was in the hospital.. I decided I wanted to work at one so I have been working in the business office for 1 year now at a hospital in Denton.. We live outside of Denton just north of Dallas Texas.. I have a 5 year old daughter and a 15 year old son.. I have been married to my husband for 6 years... We love to travel and I have been steadily gaining weight since I have had 9 knee surgeries since my high school graduation 20+ years ago. I can't wait to get this weight off and keep up with my kids and active husband.... -
Good luck you guys!!!

I am so glad I found ya'll!!! I know I will have tons of questions as the date gets closer and especially after my pre-op on Tuesday. Take care and if you have any pointers you want to share that would make my pre-op go smoother please feel free to share... I have already cut out all fast food, soft drinks, sweets, I drink slim fast for Breakfast, no Pasta, very little bread (if any)... eating steamed veggies and grilled meats... trying to eat what I will be eating or what I think I will be eating after surgery now so it won't be such a shock after the surgery.. Of course I have 2 restaurants I have to visit before my big day.. Joe T. Garcias and my favorite chinese restaurant in Irving...

Good luck all of you up for tomorrow.. I hope all of you already banded are well rested after the weekend... I go for all of my pre-op on Tuesday and having bronchitis this past week I hope they don't cancel my surgery.. It's not until the 25th so I think I am ok.. I am so much better and they caught it in time.. been resting as hard as it is with a 5 and 15 year old and a waterpark in our neighborhood.. I hate not getting to swim....

My surgery is outpatient so my insurance is covering at 100%.. I think it just depends on your insurance and what your copays and your deductibles are.. -
I hope everyone is resting nicely and those that are getting ready for surgery tomorrow are ready to start their new life to a slimmer healthier you!! Good luck everyone and keep us posted...

Wow...what is wrong with people!!!??
waikiki replied to 2BtinyinTN's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I do try to help and but just when I think we are making headway she says something like "that sweater is cute but the stripes make you look like a football field"... she wanted to go on the liquid diet with me when I start mine for my surger but then I told her that my doctor doesn't require it... I told her today that I might do it anyway if she wants to do it with me.. she said she is thinking about getting another fill. she took home 3 bags of bread from our luncheon today and a box of honey and butter.. she lives alone with her 3 year old daughter.. it's really sad... -

I know what your going through. I have a co-worker that had the lap band.. she failed with hers gained all her weight back and then some ok lots.. now that I am scheduled to have mine.. she is furious.. she didn't think I would get through the process.. then since I am on my husbands insurance.. it's 100% covered.. made her even more mad.. when I came in this morning.. she was trying to make me eat muffins.. I already had my slim fast shake. she said oh but you can have just one.. I told her no I can't eat those when I have my surgery she said oh you can eat just one and I said no I don't want my efforts to go in reverse.. she said but I haven't had the surgery yet and I told her but I have already lost 10 lbs... then I asked her how she could eat breads and she got really quiet... I usually get her back because she eats about 3-4 times more than I do at any one time.. I sometimes think she does it just to try and sabatoge me.. she eats all day long... -
Prayers coming your way.. Good Luck!!!

My lap band scheduled for May 14th
waikiki replied to Bill-D's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Good luck Texas neighbors!! I am just east of you close to Aubrey!!! Keep us posted on your success!! I can't wait for my surgery. I have been at this since August 2007.. -
Working with insurance can get frustrating.. I was able to find the information needed about my requirements on my insurance website.. When you call in ask them if they can send you something in writing. That will help but as always, nothing is written in stone and may be subject to change.. Keep a positive outlook, it won't be too much longer now.. If you have to wait 12 months then you will have more time to be prepared. Your surgery date will be here before you know it..

Mine was about 2 1/2 hours long. I took the tests, she went over them. She asked about my family history, any abuse, what my expectations were for the surgery. What my goals in life are, what struggles I feel I have overcome and what struggles I think I will face with the surgery. It wasn't difficult it just took a while..

Awesome!!! I watch my kids and my husband with all of their energy and I can't wait for the day to keep up with them!!! I get there just not as fast and so tired I am ready to take a nap.. Way to go!!! I can't wait!!!!

Sorry about your fall.. I have that fear after I have my band as I had my knee cap removed after 9 surgeries. I have a fear of falling daily... Just take care and be careful, you will heal and be back on the right road in no time
