Surgery is complete! Onto road to recover
Emilia DD replied to Jon_gets_skinny's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had my surgery yesterday and my surgeon explained the leak test.he did it at the time of surgery. He used an endoscope to place air in stomach on the sutures end had fluid inserted in the abdominal cavity. He was looking for bobbles to confirm the seal. There are other ways to do this test, after surgery, but they involve radiologic image (radiation) and if something is not perfectly sealed it has to be addressed by going back in surgery. Not ideal. so if you did not had test done as separate intervention it is likely because it was done during surgery. -

hello buddy! Good luck to you and keep posting on how is going. Do you have to keep the liver diet? My liver better be the size of a pea by the time of surgery because this diet is hard! But I see the light at the end of tunnel!

You need to stand up for yourself, your family and your faith. This nurse behavior is totally unacceptable and she should know better. I’m an RN and I would like to apologize to you. Nursing professional values do not reflect in this one individual’s behavior. You deserve respect, compassion and professionalism. I hope you and your loved ones will get better care going forward.

Whoa, April 25th surgery scheduled...waiting on approval now!
Emilia DD replied to KimB7811's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgery is also on April 25. I’m at Duke NC. i am on day 3 of liver shrinking diet and i’m so hungry that I cannot fall asleep I guess I should not complain anymore because I’m still allowed some salad, non starchy veggies, lean meat and eggs. Small amounts but I see that I should be thankful is not just liquid. I have been experimenting with lots of protein drinks and the one I am seeping on at the moment is Glucerna, much better taste then the more expensive options. Good luck ladies and keep posting. I would love to keep in touch and share the experience with each other -
2nd Week Post Op Ate A Little Watermelon
Emilia DD replied to Trellunit's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Thank you for your message. It totally makes sense and I appreciate your thoughts and your support. I’m thankful for dialogue like this. It’s helping me keep focus on the facts and to remember that not two experiences are the same but it is in big part what we decide to make of it. -
2nd Week Post Op Ate A Little Watermelon
Emilia DD replied to Trellunit's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Thank you for your messages. I’m realizing that my anxiety is starting to build up and my fears are taking a front seat when I think about the potential outcomes. I’m feeling very encouraged by your statements that hunger and cravings are not a driving force. Keep up the great work and keep us all posted on the progress. -
Don’t pick on it if you want nice scars. It should stay on for 7 days minimum but most times it will be around 3 weeks

2nd Week Post Op Ate A Little Watermelon
Emilia DD replied to Trellunit's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Could you please elaborate a little on the reason you had the watermelon. I’m investing a lot of hope that post surgery I will not be at the mercy of hunger and cravings. Was the call for a piece of watermelon strong and overbearing your strength or you did it kind of out of boredom. I have taped and erased this post few times because I’m afraid of coming across as judgemental and is not my internet. Just please help me figure out your mind set at that time. I’m seriously struggling to control myself around food for a long time and gaining freedom from this exhausting uphill battle was a major selling point in my WLS decision. So, are you feeling hungry 2 weeks post op? Are you craving food you see around? Is it hard not to think of what you want to eat? Can you just not walk away from it without second thoughts? Am I not realistic to expect freedom from this obsessive thoughts for at least 1.5 years? -
Help i need some answers
Emilia DD replied to AlmostsleevedQueen's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Please keep us posted on what your doctor makes of this. Are you seeing a nutritionist regularly? If he is not concerned you should have a second opinion consult. -

I would have definitely described myself as private and kind of Jaytissle55 kind of person. I have been thinking about having surgery for couple of years or more and have never told a soul, not even my husband until I started the appointments 6 months ago. However, for me something clicked recently and instantly I became very open and comfortable discussing the subject. I am not advertising my choice to the world but in the last few weeks I have told my family, my friends and my small group of coworkers. Actually I feel good about it. I got mixed reactions but I was surprisingly comfortable with the subject. So go with whatever feels comfortable to you and be at peace with whatever you’re deciding.
