    June 2019 Surgery Siblings!

Hi- Glad you are doing so well! I am on 12 days of blood thinner injections, about half way through. Not too bad- I just make sure to do them first thing in the morning to get them over with. I really haven't had much bruising or anything so far.

    can't drink water

You might try room temp water, if you have been trying it cold. Seems to go down easier with less cramping.

    Extremely rude nurse

I am so glad you decided to follow through on this! I know it can't be easy. Please don't let a slow pace or seeming inaction discourage you. What happened to you and your family was SO wrong, and you have a right to be heard. Ultimately, no matter what happens, you can feel good about doing everything in your power to stop this nurse from ever treating someone else like that again. Thanks for updating, and I hope you get some measure of justice in this.

    Help

I am 4 days out of my RNY. I was prepared for much more pain than I actually had. (Though I would say it was more than the pain of simply skinning my knees! LOL!) I have near zero pain now, just some tenderish incision sites. Nothing that I am taking any pain meds for or anything. I think I just got lucky. There are so many factors that come into play, and it really is unique to each person. Just know that no matter what comes, you can and will get through it. Good luck, you got this!
  9. The "people" in those videos are disgusting and I hope they are prosecuted to the fullest. I have personally been in different factory farms on multiple occasions over the years. My utter distaste for factory farming vs small farming in general aside, my experience has been that most animal caregivers are, in fact, very kind. There have been times I have heard reports of an individual low level employee being cruel. Each time, that person was fired within hours because the other employees reported their sick butts. Maybe being a rural farm girl I have a bit of a different perspective. I sometimes think that people in general think that animal products can come without ever any animal cost. I love animals, and I so wish that could be. I am sorry to say- it probably can't, at least completely. ANY milk, meat or animal product comes at a cost to an animal in some way, folks. It wasn't "born" shrink wrapped or in that pretty milk carton on the shelf. The best we can shoot for, if we are going to consume animal products, is compassionate, animal-welfare centered farming practices. The cruelty seen in that video has NO PLACE and should be met with prosecution every time. However, lets not kid ourselves either, Ok? One also better understand that big farming is big business, just like any other. With big business comes the potential for cutting corners, emphasis on profit and hiring low wage untrained temp workers. Some of whom, at some point, are bound to be terrible human beings like you see in that video.... Buying ANY animal product that is produced by big business means you are likely buying from a place where something has happened at some point that would turn your stomach. (It would not be unique to this one farm, sadly.) The best we can hope for is exposing it when it does occur, and addressing it head on to minimize the chances of it happening again. I do hope the Fair life owner is as sincere as he seems to be. I hope the practices he puts in place minimize the chances of it ever happening there again, because one time is too many. I am glad he is putting cameras and safety checks in place. It is the most responsible thing he can do at this point. Honestly, it is more than most farms today do. That said, I most hope we, as a country, really start to examine factory farming and our food production model overall. Trust me, there is NO PERFECT SYSTEM, but there has got to be a better one than the way we are heading. That "cheap" animal product that we (including myself-I am not vegan) throw into the grocery cart costs so very much more than most people will ever know, and not just in the sad, terrible way that this video shows. It costs in food quality, family farms, rural economy and on and on and on.... Food for thought, I guess.

    June 2019 Surgery Siblings!

Hi Everyone! Well, it has been about 48 hours since I came out of my RNY surgery. I am feeling really pretty good! I haven't taken anything for pain and I am able to get water down pretty easy. I have done some walks and I seem to sleep comfortably when I need to. So far. I feel super lucky as far as recovery goes, I expected it to be much worse. To my fellow June surgery friends- I am sending you all good thoughts in hopes that each of you do well and continue to get better every day. 💙

    June 2019 Surgery Siblings!

Hi Everyone! Just a quick update, Had my RNY yesterday and am still in the hospital. I am doing well, pain is managed and I have been able to get some fluid in. Might get to go home later. The only excitement was that the entire hospital lost power for 45 minutes right in the middle of my surgery! I guess they quickly unplugged everything and plugged into a generator. I, of course, didn't know any difference. LOL! Anyway, glad to be on the other side and I will update later. Sending good wishes to all my June surgery siblings!

    Stopping estrogen before surgery?

Hi all, I had a total hysterectomy years back and have been on estrogen pills since then. My surgeon asks that patients stop HRT or estrogen 1 week before surgery, to help minimize chance of blood clots. Does anyone else have any experience with this? It has been pretty rough... the headache was sooo bad after just two days off and has not relented at all. Migrain like I have not experienced in years and years, though I used to get them frequently. Throwing up, light aversion, the whole ball of wax... I might have attributed it to the liquid diet I am also on, except I was a week into that before stopping the estrogen and had not experienced headache up till then. I am going to do what my doctor advises and stay the course, just curious what others experienced and were advised. Anyway, if you got this far, thanks for reading a hungry, hurting, stupidly weepy girl's post. lol...

WAIT WHAT NO CALORIE SALAD DRESSING!

I actually have tried several of these. None of them are super great, but I like the Ranch version the best. I have used it with canned chicken as a kind of chicken salad before.

Bariatric surgery was a big mistake

Hi Gabybab, I am sorry you see it that way. I really do try to always be kind. I just really think we might be getting our leg pulled here.... If you look at some of the other posts (that got shut down by mods) in the last few hours because of proven trolls they look just like this one. Same wording etc. If it comes out that I am wrong I will be the first to PERSONALLY apologize. Promise. Either way, I respect your right to disagree. 💙 Take care!
