Getting a Revision - but OMG NOT because of weight regain!!!!
FluffySaysForkIt! replied to summerset's topic in Rants & Raves
How did you surmise these (strangers) intentions/ feelings, let alone extrapolate that it was because the WLS community as a whole isn't supportive enough? -
Green_Tealael When Is Surgery Again?

Wishing all good things for you today, GT! -
I would check with your doctor. It is probably no big deal, but sometimes leg swelling points to other issues too. Clue him/her in just to be sure.

New and Nervous
FluffySaysForkIt! replied to Deegirl31's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi, and welcome! Goodness, you have been through a lot. Anyone would be nervous! I am so glad you are working through all your questions and taking steps to protect your health. After all, what is more important than that? Hey! Take a minute to congratulate yourself for looking your fears in the eye. That is never, ever easy... but here you are doing it. Now you can step back, take some big breaths and begin to untangle all those emotions and fears. (Which are totally normal, BTW.) It seems overwhelming at times, but it really is one step at a time on this journey. Ask the questions of your medical team that you need to ask, get the answers you need, and then make the next best move for YOU based on those facts. Fear does not get to be in the driver's seat for this one... logic and best bet according to your doctors do. Glad you are here- I know you are going to find your right path. I look forward to hearing about your journey! -

Glad you are recovering now and I wish you speedy healing!!!! -
I am a bypass myself, but anyone saying the sleeve is a "waste of time" in posts just needs to read the tons of sucess stories of sleevers here... they are pretty awesome. Don't let those random internet postings get into your head. (((Hugs))) You have a great tool now, and you can do as much as you want on this journey!!! Best wishes for lots of success.

Awe! What a sweet hubby! I would check with your surgeon, just to be sure. I had to do magnesium citrate the day before my surgery to clear everything out of my system, so a spa day would have been uhhmm, complicated. 😮 I also had to wash with special soap the day before and day of, so lotions etc. might have been troublesome. Some surgeons don't even want patients to shave for a few days prior to surgery to minimize the chance of small nicks and cuts that could be a pathway for infection. Good luck with your surgery!

Getting off cpap..?
FluffySaysForkIt! replied to jasmineinmymind's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I know there are actually quite a few people here who have dropped their CPAP... I hope to be one of them, eventually. I think most people went back for a final sleep study to make sure their apnea was gone before quitting completely, just to be sure. Hopefully your Doctor will get you some answers soon and you get to ditch that sucker for good! -
June 2019 Surgery Siblings!
FluffySaysForkIt! replied to BulletWithButterflyWings's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hang in there! I honestly think the liquid diet was the worst part of the whole thing for me. I felt pretty ill through all of it, too. It was so bad I just ended up eating about 400 cals a day as it was all I could stomach for most of the two weeks. (Probably because there are no pizza protein shakes... lol!) -

Hi- I got my CPAP about two weeks after my sleep study. Getting used to it IS a bit of a process. I found that wearing it while watching tv (without trying to sleep) helped me get used to the feeling of having it on and breathing through it. That way you are not lying there at night with the pressure of feeling like you HAVE to sleep with a new strange set up. Also, don't be afraid to try lots of different styles of masks, there are a ton of them and one is bound to feel most comfortable for you. My provider allowed me to return any mask I tried as long as it was under 30 days to exchange for a new one. Many online retailers are also this way, check around. Also, it sounds counter intuitive. but avoid over tightening the mask on your face. It should not be loose, but over tightening makes it both uncomfortable to wear and actually MORE prone to air leaking. Hard to explain, but true. I know you are frustrated by this hurdle (which is totally understandable!), but try to see the good in this too. Sleep apnea really IS a serious health issue. It doesn't matter if you feel "fine" when you sleep without treatment or not. Damage IS being done. You have now discovered the problem and you have a chance to adresss it not only before your surgery, but during your weightloss journey. I guarantee you NOTHING will make losing weight harder (surgery or not) than the lack of real healthy sleep that untreated sleep apnea causes. The connection between poor sleep and obesity is well documented. All surgeons are different in what they require as far as compliance with using your CPAP. Mine required a 30 day printout from my sleep doctor to show at least a 4 hour usage every night. Again, I know it is frustrating and overwhelming. (((Hugs))) Tell yourself you are going to follow this part of your journey to give yourself the very best shot at health- and when you get to that surgery day you will know you are prepared and ready to give it your all. I will be rooting for you!!! 💙

So glad everything went well and you are on the road to recovery... Best of luck to you and wishing all good things come your way!

I also had some questions for my surgeon about this prior to my RNY having had a hysterectomy before. The way it was explained to me was that they were most concerned with prior abdominal surgeries that involved implanted mesh to repair them, such as a large hernia repair. I bet you will do just fine. Good luck tomorrow!

How long is protein powder good for after opening it?
FluffySaysForkIt! replied to Lovin2lose's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
They do have an expiration on them, somewhere. Unless it is really out of date, or has been stored in a very hot enviornment , I would think it would probably be ok. Lots of food items are good for a little bit after their exp date, provided they were stored ok etc. They don't neccasarily go "bad" all at once or anything, they may instead lose taste quality or some nutritional value as time goes on. All that said: If you are in real doubt, throw it out!!! -
They should send him the report, but it never hurts to be proactive and bring a copy of it with you too. While I am so sorry to hear you have the apnea to deal with, I am glad you found out about it! Please follow up with any treatment prescribed for it too. Apnea is no joke. It will affect not only the quality of your life, but possibly even the length of it if it is left untreated.

Congratulations @GreenTealael ! I have always appreciated your humor and insights here in my year or so of lurking reading. Raising a toast to you now, with a big bottle of endangered glacier water. 😀 Cheers!
