Pre-op essentials purchases
Panda333 replied to Ruxa's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 8 days out of pre-op and below is my experience Things I bought pre-op or immediately after that I use frequently Wedge pillow for when you get home. I ordered the day I got home because I couldn't sleep flat anymore sugar free popsicles benefiber biotene mouth spray, used that in the hospital and for a few days out, saved me. carmex lip balm 5 oz anchor measuring cup water bottle with measurements on it. Torini sugar free syrups...for decaf coffee ice cube tray - for freezing broth popsicle trays - for making your own as store bought have more carbs and calories than you realize store bought bone broths for in a pinch. Not chicken stock, Bone Broth Blender - I had this but I use this 2 x a day for the protein shakes Make sure you have extra protein like genepro to blend in to help you meet your protein goals Silly, but a basket, notepad, designated for all of your post up meds plenty of loose flowey dresses beach coverups - lucky i had a bunch but you won't want to wear a lot of clothes Loose panties subscription to myfitness pal or a good old notebook to document your liquids and proteins and everything I hate water so I need water enhancers, I used publix brand or great value brand orange soy milk - i discovered the lactose doesn't agree with me so I had to buy soy milk get your mani/pedi before because you will be wearing flip flops and not feel like bending over for sneakers Things I bought that I didn't use. I bought a kitchen scale then realized my program does not want me to use a food scale, only measuring cups 100 1.5 oz medicine cups - never used them..I thought I would track my fluid intake this way...ummm..no.. almond creamer, just don't like it Miralax..didn't need it, the colace and benefiber helps me "go" -

I'm having those tarry bms too...had to buy cottenelle flushable wipes........one thing I've discovered since my surgery on oct 1, is that I don't tolerate lactose well anymore.......makes me feel bad....so....i switched to soy as my nutritionist suggested and that has helped. I'm still doing greek yoghurt in small amounts.....It could be the surgery made you a bit lactose intolerant. I'm not a big vegan but there is a lot of info out there why we shouldn't eat cows milk.... I notice the diet the doctor gave me is so dairy focused so I asked for alternatives... I get enough dairy though my whey protein need to avoid yogurt... is your lower left incision bruised? Mine is...I think that's where they do the most "work" Congrats on your weight loss! I don't trust my scale so not sure where I am..plus I still think I have so many fluids. going to order a new scale. -

oct 7 part deux..not sure who highjacked my thread with the spam above. , I reported it...overall feel good but felt full a lot today like after a thanksgiving meal. I think I'm taking my meds too close together. I need to have the patience to wait...also need to slow down on the liquids... today at lunch i strained just the broth from progressio italian style wedding soup and then ate one of those tiny meatballs. I don't know why I did that, I chewed it like crazy and it was very satisfying but I need to stick to what my doctors said. I really can't officially go to soft foods until Wednesday..... Anyway...g'night -
Awesome links!!!

Oct 7, not sure if I would count that 6 or 7 days out of surgery. My scale says 280 but not sure if I want to update my tickers yet as it's known to be a few lbs off. But it's definitely down from the 294 it said on OCT 2 - WHO HOO. Hubby and I doing okay....Thankfully off of work until Oct 17 so my goal every day is to just get those meds, fluids, and protein in. Went to bathroom again today that makes Friday and Monday. So far so good, pain better every day....... ordered step tracker in the mail and going to try a sytrax shake today. -

Appreciate everyone's response. I love looking at tickers and stats but they don't show age or gender and at 48 I wanted to hear some folks in my age group. Thank you!!!!! -

Thank you for that insight. Do you think it's because of the calories or maybe you got more protein in. That's counterintuititive eat more calories but can't argue with your terrific results!! -
Yes, the liquid part is hard......easier to get my protein than my liquid....slowly getting there...about 50 oz a day need to step it up a bit....

@Linda72So every morning and every evening One chewable Celebrate Vitamin One Chewable Calcium Citrate Two tylenols (500 mg each) One Ursodial One Colace One Pantoprazole Optional - One zofran (i stopped this as i'm not naving nausea) once pain is gone I can stop tylenol...but Pantoprazole and Ursodiol will be for 60 days. They also said after 30 days I can go to tablets for vitamins instead of chewable but I sort of like the taste, it's a sweet treat if that makes any sense....

You are gonna rock this!!

So excited for all of us October siblings!!! It's really much easier than I thought it would be..... I have a 1 week post op liquid diet i'm on still on day 5. It's not that bad because I'm not that hungry. The hard part is getting all the pills down. have to wait about 5 minutes between each pill or my "pouch" hurts. Just follow everything your doctors say and you will be fine!! I also had my incisions. 4 of them are horizontal with my belly button, exactly where I "bend" gahhhh. Next week I can go to purreed if I want or stay on liquids, the doctors say my choice. Can't lie, dying to make Shelly's ricotta bake and also try that Mediterranean chicken patties from Aldis everyone is talking about (will puree)

@Mikeyy No offense but I'm asking females only and I specified that in the title. I obviously understand about starting weight, BMI, etc. I was looking for motivation. I don't want to hear how men lose 100 lbs in two months, okay..thanks........ -

How has your loose skin changed over time?
Panda333 replied to 2Bsmaller18's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Following this thread. I am a 48 year old female just starting my journey. High weight of 307. I've been overweight for 20 years.... I know I will have loose skin...trying to save money for plastics but it's reassuring hearing that it has firmed up, even for those in their 60s. so much goes into this. -
Hiiiiii! Following..you are all an inspiration.... Still so newly post op (Oct 1) so my goal is to meet my vitamin, fluid and protein goals. I have no weight loss goals right now although any loss will be welcome

4th full day home....still sore..hardest part taking these pills...have to take them 5 minutes apart...another frurstrating thing is my hubby. We went to walk the dogs (we have two) and I asked him to connect the lead to the dog. It's still hard to bend over. Yes I was doing it slowly and actually did light chores but it was easier to ask him. He refused and said "you can do it and you will" WTF. I am so pissed I was gobsmacked. Then I didn't back down as usually submissivie wifey I am and it's the next day and we are still not talking. In fact he left the house last night didn't tell me where he was going and I had no idea where he was for two hours then he came home and slept in the guest room. . He was great during the hospital and surgery but seems very upset with me and not very caring. I guess it's something I'll have to deal with. I thought about apologizing but F that . Digging in and standing my ground. I actually think he's a bit insecure...... Water weight seems to be down, yay! -
I was not ready for the pre-op diet and messed up first day
Panda333 replied to Panda333's topic in Pre-op Diets and Questions
Surgery went well. I felt fairly good after. Came home two days ago and a bit sore, especially on my left side......I don’t think messing up my pre-op diet did anything although the dr wanted me to have lost more weight before.......still up in weight because of fluids. Home recovering...... -

Panda333 posted a topic in Pre-op Diets and Questions
Just want some peeps opinion. I have been through hell and back to get this surgery. went through my doctors entire program only to be told by Aetna last month I'm denied. I had lost 15 lbs following the drs program but but that stressed me out and I started eating bad...not so bad just normal and I allowed myself sugar and carbs. As of the 17th I had gained 6 lbs back. Well i did get approval finally after appeal and Tuesday (two days ago) I called and asked for an idea of the surgery date. They said I could do it Tuesday, Oct 1. yahoo, but then OMG! Well Tuesday night they e-mail that I have to start the pre-op diet immediately. So yesterday (Wednesday) I got up and just had coffee for breakfast. A protein shake for lunch. But I messed up with dinner and ate a yogurt with some fat in it. It was publix low fat greek but I realized it had 5 grams of fat and 35 carb. It wasn't low carb as my doctors office said. . Today I've been extra good and will be until my surgery but last week I was not eating on a good diet. Do you think 12 days is good enough time o shrink my liver. I don't want them to have to open me up and not do it laproscopically. -
October 2019 surgery peeps?
Panda333 replied to Cherylmilla's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@LastChance57You are right..I should call them. I'm taking like 15 pills a day. 7 in morning and 7 in evening and it's been soooo hard. probably the hardest part so far is taking these dang pills. ... I have to wait 5-10 minutes between each pill. I wish I was giving the liquid. I will leave them a message today. It's saturday but maybe they will call me back. maybe I'll send hubby to drug store to at least find regular liquid tylenol. that might help at least. appreciate the tip. -

Large hiatal hernia discovered during gastric bypass surgery

I don't know why you would consult an attorney or another surgeion unless you think malpractice was done. I think your surgeon did the correct course to fix your henia, then wait to do your revision...... I'm sure you signed your life away before the surgery as well.......
