Who have you told about your surgery? Why?
BeckyinTn replied to irishgal's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My husband, and my side of the family knows. My husband's side does not. I chose not tell them because that are not the most supportive bunch of people. As far as friends, co-workers and neighbors. The ones I know that would be supportive and could trust know the others who like to run their mouths and are negitive do not. -

BeckyinTn replied to Boo Boo Kitty's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would love to join in on this party if it is not too late! I have got to get my a$$ is gear. I have just slacked off and I don't have a good reason for it! I do have a question for all of you. If you have a dialated esphogus and you do liquids for a fews days does the esphogus revert back to normal? -
I agree with what everyone is saying. I had a former friend do this to her husband a few years ago. All of a sudden she had a "new best friend" and really had no time for any of her old friends. This "new best friend" took all of her time. What was sad about the situation is that her husband never saw it coming. He thought it was great she had someone to pal around with while he was deployed. (yes, his was military). She did end up with most of all they had accumulated during the marriage. Since he never saw it coming he had no time to prepare and protect himself. What he did end up with was all of the bills. Worst case senario here would be if you end up getting a divorce that you would have to give her a percentage of what you have accumulated, but that would be better than her getting more than her fair share because you did not prepare.

I had my first fill yesterday 11/11. The only thing that hurt was the shot that I was given to numb the area. I had my fill under fluro. My Dr tried on the 6th to fill it but was unable to access the port (he tried 2-3 times but did not wiggle the needle around searching for it) he decided it would be better for me if I had it done where he could see it on the screen. I will say it was really neat to be able to see the band, tubing and the port on the screen. So far I am on liquids for 24 hours so I don't know if I have restriction yet or not.

I was supposed to have my first fill on 11/6. My Dr never could find the port. After 3 tries he told me he was not going to try a 4th time. Now I have to go back and have it done under flouro. I think I may get a tatoo say "here it is" with an arrow pointing to it!:rolleyes2:

This post fits me to a t. I was also banded on 9-22 and can eat pretty much anything I want to. I don't seem to eat as much as before. I am hoping that I will get a fill on the 30th when I go the DR for my monthly check in. I haven't lost anymore but I don't think I have gained either (at least that is what my scales show). I will admit however that I have eaten bread and potatoes since I still can right now, and I will drink with meals out habit too! I have got to get my head wrapped around this and buckle down and do it! I am hoping getting a fill will help!

I am sorry that you went through all of this. It is uncalled for and the way you were treated needs to be addressed. I would tell each of the people involved that you did not appreciate the way you were treated and that you are extremely disappointed that as a members of the medical profession that they were not as understanding as they should have been in dealing with an autistic child. during my next visit. (Even though they are just hired help they had to go throught some type of training to do the job that they do.) I wish you the best! Hopefully you will be able to find someone to do the fills closer to you!

I am wondering if anyone else has had this. I am about 40 hours out from surgery. I am not running a fever but my face is flushed like I am. My face is the only thing on me that is very warm. I don't feel to bad other than tired and sore which I am sure are both normal. I have been drinking my clear liquids like I am supposed to until tomorrow then it is full liquids. Any ideas or suggestions?

What does it take to stretch your band out?
BeckyinTn posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am just wondering how much one has to eat to stretch out the pouch. I am so scared that I will do this or have done it! I was banded on 9-22-08 and I will say that yesterday I ate more then I was supposed to! I didn't eat till I was at the point of vomiting or anything like that but I did have a heavy feeling in my chest! I don't want to have screwed this up by my actions yesterday! Today it will be shakes and only shakes! -
What does it take to stretch your band out?
BeckyinTn replied to BeckyinTn's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My Dr has me on soft foods and I have been able to eat them for about 3 days now! What I ate yesterday was soft. I didn't eat more than 1 cup at a time it was just I grazed most of the day. -
I am grateful to the "band" because I know that I am getting my life back one pound at a time!

Just gotta vent
BeckyinTn replied to MADE IT 2 MY GOAL..OH YEAH's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Michele, Hon, you are not alone! I know that it is tough right now and of course men being men they think we as women can't drive into town and back safely. I gotta ask though where in the heck do you live? I live in TN too..65 miles south west of Nashville. Does your county have those transportation vans that can make the trip? If they do use it! That way you don't have to depend on dad or hubby! Living with family is also an added stress on you! Even if it is your parents it is still not your own home! Been there! Done that! It stinks! You seem to have alot going on right now and for that I am truly sorry! Remember you can vent here anytime you feel like it! -
craving coffee...i'm gonna die!
BeckyinTn replied to just1more's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was told no caffine for the first 2 weeks. After that as long as I get my 64oz of water in a day then I can have my coffee. I was also told if I drink more than 2 cups that means I need to drink the amount of water equal to the amout of extra coffee since it tends to be a diuretic. -
My step-mother knows everything...(long)
BeckyinTn replied to ♥Amy♥'s topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Please don't listen to her! She is a toxic person in your life! I had one of those whom I thought was a friend! I had talked about WLS back in 2006 and I let this person and her views talk me out of it! She kept telling me that if I really wanted to lose the weight we could go on a buddy system and do it together. She was never there to be a part of the buddy system. She also kept telling me that I really didn't want something implanted in my body. This is also the friend who pointed out regularly that she was the "smaller" of the two of us. I had finally had enough and started the WLS process and then she started again with the comments. My DH finally said to me one day " she doesn't want you to have this because if you suceed and you will then she will end being the "bigger" one of the two of you and she can't have that!" It made me stop and think that he was right. Long story short she is really not apart of my life anymore and I have found that as long as I went with what she said and didn't disagree with her then we got along just fine. I don't want a one-sided relationship with anyone. Your step mother sounds just like my friend and she doen't want you to suceed. I know you can't cut her out of your life but you can limit the access she has! -
I don't think the issue here was Subway accomodating some for the fact they had WLS. Nor was she blaming them for her being overweight in the 1st place. The issue was the way that she as a customer was treated! If Subway doesn't want to give a discount on its product then ok! No biggie! I have no issues paying the full amount and I don't imaigine that she did either! What the underlying issue was the way that she was treated by the staff at Subway! Then upon calling the corporate office she was told "that is not their problem" the way she was treated. I beg to differ! It is Subways problem! Those workers are representing Subway and by allowing them to treat customers that way Subway is saying it is ok to be rude and disrepectful to overweight people just because that are fat! If this is they way Subway feels than this fat girl (soon to be thin) will no longer patronize any of their establishments!

Anybody Else Overly Emotional???
BeckyinTn replied to MissBS's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am not emotional in the crying sense, what I am is crabby. I have been just down right nasty to my husband. I don't know why but for the last 2 days he can just walk in the room and I am mad! Poor guy! I feel bad for him but I swear I just can't help it! I am not that way with my kids just him! What he is wanting to know is how much longer will I be this way! I want to know too! Any ideas! -
I was on clear liquids for the first 2 days, full liquids from the 24 up until today. Today I can have mushies. That is until 2 weeks after surgery and then it is normal food. I guess I am very lucky. He doesn't believe that we can start healing until we really starting getting food in out bodies. I have to make sure I am getting 60g of protein everyday. I still can't stomach the shakes so I am eating a little bit every 3-4 hours. I hope things are getting better for you! Becky
-
Hey Becky! I started on the soup stage 2 days ago and I have now moved into mushies! I had homemade potato and added a little cheese not much just enough for the added taste and protein. I also had some Campbells tomato. I just can't eat a whole lot other wise I hurt. I can eat maybe a bite or 2. Becky

I read where you stated that the corporate office said it was not their problem. HMMM let me see...it will be their problem if no one who has had weight loss surgery goes to their resturants. They claim to advocate a healthy lifestyle yet they won't put their money where their mouth is. I for one will not spend my hard earned $$ with a company that treats it's customers with such disrepect.
-
I am 2 days post op and supposed to start on full liquids. I am to drink my protein shakes and I tried to drink one today. It was awful. Waaay to sweet. I just can't stomach the idea of drinking another one! Did anyone else have this issue? I know I have to get the protein in. Any suggestions?

I wish everyone well that is having surgery today! And for those newly banded I will be one of you shortly! I will email you on the other side!:rolleyes2:
-
Hello all! I was banded today! finally... I am not doing to bad, I am just sore and swollen. The only issue that I have is I am able to drink more than what I thought I could! I am able to drink 4-5 oz. Is that normal? Oh and I am walking. I don't let myself sit or lay for very long!
-
Thanks for all of the info and well wishes! I am doing good! Other than just having a sore stomach. Even that is managable! Just think this time next year how good we are gonna look and feel! Now begins our new and healthy lives!
