Just about 12 hours until surgery. Check in at 5:30, surgery about 7:30. Hope I can get some sleep! Good luck to other 3/11 buddies and those following right behind us! Almost forgot to say I took my before pics this morning! Looking forward to posting after pics in the coming months!

2 day countdown! Have to sign in at the hospital at 5:30 am on Monday morning. (All you other 3/11 people, don't forget Daylight Savings goes into effect this weekend!) Nervous but ready.

appetite back after 7 weeks
NeedsTheBeach replied to Tariq Khader's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Well it's good that you can eat normally without issues, but you should learn to stay away from the bad foods. Have you checked in with your nutritionist? Have you gone to support groups? Learning new eating habits is necessary for long term weight loss and maintenance. -
What kind of blender for purees?
NeedsTheBeach replied to 2Bsmaller18's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I also have a Ninja, that I bought years ago. It is a workaholic! Great for smoothies, will grind down any ice or frozen fruit that you throw at it. I plan on using it to puree foods after surgery. -
People I'm having a little panic attack. I started the mostly liquid diet a week ago and I've only lost a couple of pounds. The month prior I was doing 1000 calories, 65-75 grams of protein, 100 grams of carbs and 30 grams of fat. That month I lost 20 pounds. I know I'm getting enough protein, maybe 30 grams of carbs and less than 5 grams of fat, and really reaching only 600/ 700 calories a day. Maybe I've hit some plateau, but surgery is on Monday, 3/11, and I'm afraid the surgeon is going to say you haven't lost enough weight. Has anyone else experienced this?

Minimal loss on pre-op diet!
NeedsTheBeach replied to NeedsTheBeach's topic in Pre-op Diets and Questions
Update, got a call back from the Dr. office. They'd be happy if I lost 5, but as long as I've lost since I started the process (I have - 30 pounds), I am just fine! Phew! Bullet dodged. Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app -

I hope you are right. I'm waiting to hear from the Dr. office to see if there will be a problem. -
How’d you Choose? Sleeve v.s. Bypass?
NeedsTheBeach replied to NotActive1234's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm going with Bypass because I used to have a lap band, which totally didn't work out for me. And to me, the sleeve is similar in function and outcome as the lap band. I discovered that I REALLY need extra help dealing with what goes in my mouth. Because of the malabsorption aspect and the "outcomes" of eating the wrong foods I felt the Bypass was much better for me. I want to eat correctly, but 65 years of habits are hard to overcome without some serious help. Plus the Bypass has been around so long, that it's success is proven. -
That's just a little more than a week past my surgery (3/11). Good luck!

I'm 60. Anyone else over 50 doing RNY?
NeedsTheBeach replied to Pam Peltz's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I'm 65 and scheduled for 3/11/2019. Less than 2 weeks to go! -
You are welcome! Good luck!

I'm also on 3/11 but I'm going with gastric bypass. I've just dropped another 5 lbs! I got my pre-op diet today (last visit before surgery). Here is the sum up: 2-3 protein shakes per day, making sure you get 60 grams of liquid protein per day. Can also have baked or grilled chicken, turkey, lean meat or fish as well as steamed or fresh vegetables and fresh fruit. Avoid all dairy except what is in your protein shakes. No eggs Season with herbs & spices, lemon juice or vinegar but avoid condiments, dressings, fats and oils. 2 full days prior to surgery, stop all meat, change over to broth soups continue shakes continue veggies and fruits. Now, prior to this I was pretty much eating like this (not the shakes) for the last month and I lost 20 lbs. I was eating about 75 grams of protein, 100 grams of carb and 30 grams of fat for 1000 calories per day. Since the pre-op diet didn't specify quantities on the meat, veggies and fruit, I figure as long as I stay within the last month diet limits I'll be ok. I started a month ago at 277, 5'4" with a BMI of 47.5.

Anyone get a March date yet?
NeedsTheBeach replied to claricey's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
This is day one for me, so I'm feeling a little empty. Luckily my week one allows for a lean meal everyday. Week 2 is hardcore shakes only. -

Claricey, how are you doing? I started protein shakes today, how about you? Seems like it is going to be a long 2 weeks! -
Roxine, congratulations! Great job! Such a good story to see just two weeks before my surgery. Good inspiration for me and others. Thank you for sharing.

I wonder if it has something to do with the high sodium content many have. Maybe it impacts hydration and liver?

I'm so glad it's going well for you! FYI, Unjury has a chicken soup protein mix and Fusion has a couple of different soups to help avoid the sweet taste overload.

I figure the longer I am without my trigger foods the easier it will be to avoid them. I hope I'm right! -

I'll start pre-op diet on Sunday, but I'm pretty close to that already. My doc has 2 protein shakes and 1 lean protein meal for the 1st week and just shakes for the second week. I have protein shakes ready to go, I'm on specific pre-op vitamins now and will get my list of post-op vitamins on Tuesday. I had a meeting with the program coordinator this morning and I've lost 15 lbs in the last month so things are looking good! -

Getting a little nervous about post surgery life adaptation. I really want to succeed, but habits are so hard to break.
