  1. Good news is I have started the process to be sleeved. I am considering Dr. Robert Davis, Dr. Vadim Sherman and the New Start Program at Memorial Hospital Houston. I have consultations scheduled starting next week. Can anyone give me an estimate of the cost for surgery from these doctors? I know it can vary but I need some idea of the cost. I am self pay since my BMI is lower than 35. Thanks all.
  2. Can anyone recommend a surgeon in Houston Tx that will sleeve a low BMI? My BMI is 32. I recently turned 65 so I have Medicare and AARP United Healthcare Suppliment Plan. Is it possible they will pay for the surgery? I will self-pay if needed. I have several co-morbidities, diabetes, high blood pressure, arthritis, sleep apnea, spinal stenosis and have had 2 heart attacks. My endocrinologist is recommending the surgery. Endo sent my info to Dr. Vadim Sherman. But that was 2 weeks ago and no phone call yet. I have struggled with my weight for so long that I just need some help. Thanks everyone for your help.
  3. Got the call this morning from Dr. Robert Davis office. My surgery will be June 3. What a way to Celebrate our 29th wedding anniversary! It's been a long 3 months getting everything done to qualify for insurance coverage. I can't wait to start my new life.
  4. Glad you are doing well, RedWilly. I am great too. I am not counting calories or anything at this point. Just trying to eat and drink often. I have no pain. Still have some swelling. Saw Dr.Davis today. Thanked him for giving me this new life. That's how I feel. I have been very emotional since surgery. Guess that is because this was such a big life changing decision. We are now connected by the date June 3. Which is a very good day!

    Gain weight to qualify?

I gained 10 lbs and wore ankle weights to qualify. Also, when my height was measured I scrunched down. That made my height 5'4" instead of 5'6'. Was it worth it? As of now I say YES. Had my surgery on June 3. No pain after the first day. Just soreness. No problems with eating the liquid foods.
  6. I had a wonderful anniversary! Surgery went well. No pain after the first day. Just soreness. Went home on Thursday. Swelling is slowly going away. I have NO hunger, even when I smelled my husband's fried chicken and mashed potatoes. This must be how "normal" people feel. Follow up appointment is Monday. Dr. Robert Davis is truly one of the best surgeons in the world. I highly recommend him.
  7. I've been a yoyo dieter all my life. I am now at my heaviest and miserable. To be healthy I must get the weight off and keep it off. 5 ft 5 in and 196 lb. 62 years young, high blood pressure, sleep apnea, back problems, high blood sugar, high cholesteral and high triglycerides I would appreciate some feedback on my current situation. Yesterday I had a consultation for lap band. Went in to the consult thinking I would self-pay about $10,000. Turns out if I gain 15 pounds my insurance will pay for everything. Should I try to gain the weight? I can't really afford to self-pay. Thanks for some opinions. Judy K
  8. Dr. Hollis is going to be my doctor too.
  9. Thanks for the feedback. I'm thinking I will give it a shot. I've never had trouble gaining lbs. My pre-op diet is only 1 week. And reqires that I lose 5 lbs.
  10. Can anyone tell me if Anthem BC/BS has a BMI requirement? Does anyone get approved with a BMI of 32.5 with complicating conditions? I have diabetes, sleep apnea, hypertension, high cholesteral, high triglycerides and leaking heart valves
