I have struggled with my weight all my life. As I got older, it started to cause medical problems. I took meds for acid reflux and high blood pressure. I had arthritis in both knees; my knees and feet just hurt all the time. I used a CPAP for sleep apnea. I was pre-diabetic for a couple of years but full-blown Type 2 diabetes was knocking on my door. I had tried to lose weight over the years, mostly halfheartedly, but after the birth of my first child I was mildly successful: I lost 25 pounds and kept it off for about 3 years. Then it all came back plus a few more pounds. I finally realized that I had to do something, that my kids deserved a mother who would be around for them. Diabetes was the wake-up call. I'd had gestational diabetes twice and knew what it was like to plan meals, do finger sticks and administer insulin shots. I did not want that sentence for the rest of my life; I don't have time for it! I opted for the sleeve done by robotic surgery. I was what my doctor called a "front loader". I lost pretty much all my weight within the first 6 months after surgery. I was down 90 lbs, but have gained back 5 - which frightened me but I have come to understand that it is completely normal. Now it's all about maintaining. I love my new look, I love my new clothes, and I love not needing any meds or a CPAP.
