I'm right there with you. I was banded on 5/14 and haven't slept much since. I toss and turn all night as well. I have been exercising daily and struggling to get in 600 calories a day. I've been on protein drinks, non-fat yogurt, low fat cottage cheese, etc. I'm not having a problem getting in enough protein but I'm worried I'm going to go into starvation mode and stop losing weight. I've lost about 20 pounds since May 1st when I started the pre-op diet. I just wish I could sleep! I think a lot of it is that I can't get comfortable. My incisions are healing fine but they are very sore. I can't lay on either side. Have to stay on my back and I'm not a back sleeper. I'm sure it will get better eventually. So the bottom line is no, you are not alone.

weight gain right after surgery
steffiegirl replied to Stay_Tuned's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had surgery on 5/14. I lost 11 pounds with the pre-op diet and when I got home after surgery on the 14th, I had gained all of it back. I have now -- just a week later, lost a total of about 15 pounds. -

I was also banded on the 14th. Still have shoulder pain from gas and the hiccup thing but I am sooooo NOT hungry. I am having to force myself to get some calories and protein in. I'm lucky to get 400 calories a day. All I want is water. Maybe I should be thankful that I'm not hungry. -
I had a BMI of 39 and was approved through UHC without gaining any weight. Try your best to get approved at what you're at now. Good luck.

I have seven holes. I just had surgery on May 14th. I know that one of them is for a hiatal hernia and one is for the marcaine drip that is still inserted in my abdomen. I originally thought I'd have five holes so with these two additional it makes sense. I'm also in pain. I thought I'd be ready to do normal activities by now but that is certainly not the case. I thought I had a pretty high tolerance for pain but I've had to take my liquid Lortab regularly.

Wish me luck! My surgery is scheduled for this morning -- just a few hours from now. I can't believe I'm not even nervous. I'm just anxious to get this over with so I can start my journey. According to my scale, I've lost 11 pounds on the two week pre-liquid diet. I'm curious about how much I'll gain back from the surgery. See ya!

Light Headed During Liquid Diet
steffiegirl replied to HlthySoon's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm on day 13 of a 14 day Optifast (protein shake) diet. The doctor said absolutely no food and I did fine for 4 or 5 days, and then started getting dizzy and lightheaded. I called my doctor's office and they told me that I needed stay on Optifast all day but then have a low cal, low carb, high protein meal for dinner because it sounded like my body needed more calories (duh!!). I've been doing much better with that! I would love to know why some doctors want you on one diet and others on something totally different. -
How long does it usually take?
steffiegirl replied to Ellen86's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's definitely possible. This first time I tried to get the band, it was mid-November 2004. I had my psych eval, nutritionist consultation and dr. appointment to get my referal all completed by the first week in December. It took the insurance company about three weeks to approve me and by the time I received my approval letter, it was December 27th. Unfortunately my insurance changed on January 1st and the new company didn't cover WLS. Obvioulsy I didn't have time to get the surgery before the end of the year. I was so bummed! After waiting three years and finally having insurance again that covers WLS, I started the process once more on April 14th of this year. I will be having my surgery on May 14th -- only one month later. I have been dieting for over 5 years however with documentation through my doctor so I know that help speed up the process. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. Good luck! -

That is amazing how that happens but what a great gift I'm sure you've given your two older daughters for becoming their mother. It took my husband and me several years and a surgery to get pregnant. It finally happened for us just as we decided that not having children would be okay too. We sure are thankful for our little one. -

Congratulations on your weight loss. Good job! Hopefully I'm as successful as you. Are the other Unjury flavors any good? The website says something about tasting better than the competition. Is that not true? I've been on Optifast for the past 10 days. I'm tolerating that okay. -
What's a reasonable cost for a Psych Eval?
steffiegirl replied to tas's topic in Insurance & Financing
I ended up not needing a psych eval but it would have been $370. -

Welcome, Carol. I'm Stef. I'm getting banded May 14th. Good luck with yours. You sure have an age spread between your girls. I'll bet the big girls have a ton of fun with the little girls.
