My sleeve surgery was on 5/13 and it was the first surgery I had also. Everything has gone smooth so far. I would encourage you to just follow the advice of the nurses and your surgeon to the best of your ability. Walk as much as you can during your recovery in the hospital, that helped me so much with gas and pain. If something feels wrong, ask questions and for help. They are there to help you. I called my Bariatric advice nurse everyday this week to ensure I'm doing everything ok. It felt like I was over-communicating and bothering them, but this is MY recovery and MY experience. They reassured me they are there to answer any questions and help me along the way. Utilize your resources! Listen to your stomach - it will talk to you after we surgery. -

Here's day 2 post op of my incisions. The bigger incision pictured on the left hurts the most

Thank you everyone for your kind words!! All went well. I've been in and out of sleep. The worst pain is from the gas and the "bigger" incision. I expected the pain level to be way higher than it is. The binder adds more pressure to the wounds but it definitely helps with the burping and occasionally cough

I'm finally at the hospital being admitted. My nerves hadn't kicked in until now. Surgery is in about an hour and half and the nerves are kicking it with a pinch of anxiety. Trying to stay objective but this is my first major surgery. Please send positive vibes this way.

Thank you! I'll definitely reach out with questions. Surgery is set for May 14th so the countdown begins

Hello everyone! I'm very early in my journey. My surgeon let me know that I am approved for surgery and that I will get a call before Wednesday 4/10 to schedule my surgery for late April/early May. I am super excited and anxious. I would love to connect with people in my area. Just a little background: Height: 5'3" HW: 271 CW: 254 SW goal: 249 Surgeon: Dr Dutta @ Fremont Kaiser I've been on this journey since November 2017. Between now and then, I've struggled with losing my 20lb goal and as you know, life happens. Now, I'm in a better mind set and changed my habits dramatically. When I first started, I was a little frustrated and unsure if this was really for me. Fast forward to summer 2018, I was diagnosed with very mild sleep apnea (on the borderline of what is considered "normal") and in December I was told by my PCP that I was pre-diabetic and gained 8lbs. This was my major turning point. I reached out to my surgeon and updated him on all the changes I experienced - he gave me a new weight goal, set me up with the nutritionist and I took control of life again. Fast forward to now, I can't believe I'm weeks away from starting this new journey. I still need to lose 5lbs before surgery day but I am confident I will reach that in the next 3-4 weeks. I am a Kaiser patient at the Fremont location. I would love to connect with those early in their journey, as well as, those who are further out. I have a great support system, however, they won't know the true ups and downs that I will experience in the next few months transitioning into a new chapter.
