  1. Happy 29th Birthday treyes628!

  2. Hello! Thank you all so much for the positive words! I feel so much better about the surgery now that I know that it is possible to work it around my school schedule. I was so worried that I went through the 6 months of Kaiser classes and all of the anticipation for nothing, but now my mind is so much more at ease Thanks again and good luck to all! Tiffany
  3. Hello! I have just completed the Kaiser Options program and am scheduled to meet with the surgeon in a few weeks. I initially wanted to go with the gastric bypass, but am now considering lap band. My problem is that I am starting an intensive full time nursing program next week, and don't know if I will be able to have the surgery and continue school without missing more than a couple days. I don't have the option of putting the surgery off, because with the Kaiser program the surgery has to be completed within 6 months of the finish date. I would like to know if anyone can share their thoughts on the healing and recuperation time that is necessary for the lap band, as well as if there is any brain function lost due to lack of food! Any info would be great!

  5. Hi, I also went through the Kaiser Options program, at the Sunset location in LA. You will get a lot of good information, not only about weight loss but how to live a positive and productive life in general. I would say to FOLLOW THE PROGRAM, you will pretty much get a step by step guide about what to do each week, and try to stay on track or you will reach the end of the class trying to lose your 10% (like me). There are lots of labs that need to be done, as well as a meeting with a psychologist and nutritionist. Not as bad as it sounds though. I have completed the entire program and labs, and am just waiting to consult with the surgeon. I would also say to start taking vitamins now, because they will not operate if you have ANY deficiencies. Oh and BTW, Kaiser is very much for lap band as a last resort, and sees the gastric bypass procedure as the "gold standard. " Good luck!
  6. I am going to do absolutely everything Im told. My doc said I need to start some kind of cardio 6 days a week, will I still qualify if I lose a good amount of weight before my surgery? Im going to request a copy of my policy, but I know it is covered because my boyfriend who is on the same policy was approved already. Another question, will the same insurance policy cover two surgeries?? Thanks for all the great info y'all.
  7. Hi all, I just got a referral from my doctor at Kaiser to get signed up for the classes and meet with a specialist. I told her that in addition to my weight (267 lbs, 47 BMI) I have chronic foot and back pain and am borderline diabetic. I asked how many people get rejected for the surgery, she said she really didn't have any idea, but the fact that I am so young (24) might not help. I just want to know if anyone has gone through the lap band process at Kaiser, your specific circumstances and what got you qualified, as well as any info that you learned along the way. I am pretty nervous that I won't be accepted, even though I'm gonna keep trying. Also, I am not 100% sure that Kaiser does Lap Band, the doc said they might only be doing the gastric bypass surgery. Any info? Thanks! :biggrin2: Tiffany
