So am I...hence the “lesson learnt” statement...🙄
-
Four weeks post op & I “tried” a flour tortilla. Ate a quarter & it went down a treat. Then got stuck. Harsh & very painful lesson. Hot sweats with the pain. It has just settled & I’m now left with terrible trapped wind.

Yes happyRN exactly that! I’m finding it so annoying!!
-
Blimey! My other thing is that the second I start eating or drinking I get awful wind that just travels up & down my oesophagus...like a spirit level. It’s so annoying & in the end I just give up eating!!
-
It’s crazy isn’t it!!
-
-
It’s really strange! Sweet things taste sweeter too! 🤷🏽♀️

Hey guys, I’m 18 days post op & my goodnes things taste so differently. I’ve just bunged a Soup in the bin because it tasted so salty!!
What’s the science behind my taste buds being so different?!! -
Every cuppa I’ve had today I’ve had one of these. They dissolve in your mouth so go down easily & are delish!! I’m on a Protein mission now that I’m feeling well. Back to work on monday so really need to get the protein in!
-
So delicious...not entirely sugar free but fat free (less than 0.5g) a good way to get my Protein in I find...

I’m day sixteen post op & have stalled for almost a week. There’s no way that’s I’m taking in anywhere near enough calories to stall so I’m keeping the faith that it’s all down to internal post op chemistry going on...
-
I am 16 days post op & whilst I haven’t gained I’ve been the same weight for a week. I’m just holding onto the faith that there’s no way I’m eating enough calories to stall or gain so it’s gotta be down to post op internal chemistry!!
-
Ooh perhaps?! Hmm I am starting to realise that things really are gonna have to be very different!!

Ooops I postedin the wrong “zone” sorry!
I had VSG & I think by all accounts it went pretty well! I tolerate liquids, Soups, smoothies, yogurts really well, I have a spoon of Peanut Butter for a bit of Protein, & a spoon of cream cheese. All go down really well!
But jeez...30 min on & that salmon is sat there!! I think because I felt so well & normal I thought “I bet I can just tolerate normal stuff if I chew well...” BIG MISTAKE!! -
Ok so I’m 15 days post op & I’m pain free, tolerated liquid stage really well & puree is pretty good too.
Cut to today & I made the family salmon fillets. “Well this should be easy” I thought, it’s soft & mushes easily...so had two forks of salmon & chewed it to mush. Cue two minutes later sheer agony. I can feel it just sat at the top of my stomach...gurgling, painful & stuck.
YUK. That’ll teach me!!! Will I ever eat solid food again!!! -
Same. Same. Same. Give it a week & you’ll be a different person.
-
Yep seriously!

I feel like a different person. In 11 days I’ve lost 21lb
Weak dilute cordial & sip sip sip away xx -
All normal!!! Tiny sips burnt like HELL.
Gas pain was AGONY.
I was tearfull & full of regret.
Day 11 post op & I feel completely recovered!! Eating three small liquid meals & drinking plenty.
Take it easy on yourself you will recover beautifully if you give yourself no expectations other than to rest up & take things steady.BlueIGT reacted to this -
Oh the gas pain, the joyous gas pain. Had it not been for that I’m sure I’d have been completely pain free!
Walk, walk, walk,
Peppermint tea
sleep slightly propped on pillows
GA slows gastric motility & bowel movements. I didn’t pass gas for three days...I was worried at first but it DOES return to normal.
I’m 11 days post op & could quite happily return to work tomorrow...but I’m not. Another seven days booked off so I’m going to start a steady bit of life laundry & clear out my house...
Good luck with it all. Soon it will be you giving advice to others. Xxxangie_is_losing_it reacted to this -
Blimey three weeks?! I think I’m having a totally fed up day.

Hi all, I’m looking for some advice on how long from surgery you went from liquids to mush?
I’m nine days post op, the pain has settled, but I now have terrible insomnia. It’s sometimes five or six am before I drift off. I’ve tolerated fluids well & not a single episode of vomiting. My consultant has said mush after two week, did anyone try it sooner?
Thanks in advance
