Canadians... Favourite Protein Shakes and other Bariatric Foods
BlueIGT replied to MrsGamgee's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I like the Premiere Shakes from Costco. I did buy a protein powder online which I never ended up using yet. I never found any sugar free popsicles either, but you can make your own out of a sugar free drink mix you like. They also talk about protein water which used to be carried by Bulk Barn and some Shopper's Drug Marts, but not around here anymore, you may have luck in your area. The only other thing I ordered online was from Bariatric Advantage, Chewable Calcium Citrate, chocolate flavour. As the pills were horrible crushed, and I didn't love the liquid option available. I got a 4 month supply and once it's done I should be able to swallow the normal pills again with no problems. -
Like a few others, only my husband knows. It's worked out well for me and I like it this way. Sometimes I wish I had other people in my life I could talk to about it but I don't want to open that door, because once it's opened it can't be closed again.

Congratulations! It's an awesome feeling.

@proud grammy I was told the same. Unfortunately I do like gum. I will try some day I'm sure (as I still have some in my purse) and hopefully I won't have issues.
-
I had finished mine about a week prior to surgery, but when I woke up from surgery I had it again. The following month I was 4 days late and a week after that one was done, I spotted for over a week. The next month was a normal 28 day but this month I am 2 days early. I think it affects our periods one way or another and eventually it should level itself out. But if you are concerned you can always call your dr for peace of mind.

I have to agree with @ms.sss, that seems to be when it happens for me as well.
-
I know I felt like you on and off for a a couple weeks before surgery. I was scared and tempted to back out, even at the hospital I was ready to run for the hills. But I didn't and I didn't have any complications with the surgery. I followed my pre op diet to the letter to ensure my best possible condition before surgery. You've obviously researched the gastric bypass surgery, you've taken the courses and you've made the decision to proceed with the surgery. I stopped researching and reading threads about complications when I started to worry, because I knew they would scare me. Also people don't tend to start threads when everything is going well and they have no complications. I think we all go into it with that fear in the back of our minds that we will be one of the ones with complications, not just for WLS but for any surgery and that's natural. In the end it's only a decision you can make for yourself.

February 2019 weight loss buds
BlueIGT replied to TheMarine79's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I am sorry to hear that you are having these issues. It must be scary. I have read a lot of stories from people who had varying issues after their surgeries and most do look back and see it as a bump in the road, hopefully your story will mirror theirs. In the meantime I truly hope you can get your blood pressure up soon and that you don't black out or have another seizure. I also hope that someone who has experienced what you have will see your posts and maybe have some helpful information for you. -
spouse, boyfriend/girlfriend/family heavy??
BlueIGT replied to ProudGrammy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My Mom was overweight, and most of her family were/are overweight. My Father was overweight but not too much and most of his family were/are on the thinner side. Of my 4 siblings only 1 is not overweight but that is because their addiction is not food. It's hit and miss with heavier cousins, I would say there are more on my Mother's side though. My hubby can eat pretty much anything but as he's getting older his metabolism is slowing down, but he has lost about 10 pounds on this journey with me so far and that's all he needs to lose. -
Anyone else find it difficult with liver shrinking diet with their surgeries?
BlueIGT replied to cristobal's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It was difficult for the first 3 days for me, after that the hunger was gone. You're doing well sticking with it and it is draining mentally and physically. I was really tired on my 2 week liquid diet. I also stuck to mine because I didn't want there to be any complications because my liver didn't shrink enough, which there wasn't. The diet will really help to prepare you for after surgery as you will only be able to drink for a little while and you will have already been doing that so you'll be ready. Best wishes with your surgery and a speedy recovery. -
February 2019 weight loss buds
BlueIGT replied to TheMarine79's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I have no appetite, I never feel hungry but I eat meals at the same time every day. Mine was Feb 11. I am down 12 pounds since surgery and down .1 pounds in 2 weeks. It is frustrating, it also makes me think of the things I can never sit down and have again especially when I am not losing for so long. I am hoping everyone is right and our bodies are adjusting and the weight will start coming off. -
It's been over a month since my surgery and I have only lost 12 pounds, have lost nothing in the last two weeks... actually I gained a couple pounds. I think you're doing well.
-
1 month and 4 days from surgery and not losing. Actually have gained a couple pounds. Can't figure out what I am doing incorrectly. Have an appointment in a couple weeks hopefully she can sort me out. I don't know if I am not eating enough, not drinking enough, not walking enough. I get 60g of protein min a day, most days more. I have lost only 12 pounds since my surgery and I honestly thought I would be further along then this. Feeling regretful the last couple of weeks and I know it's early on but I feel like my honeymoon is being wasted.

Help with quitting smoking
BlueIGT replied to Daisy's's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I also quit 10 years ago with Chantix. Took me 6 weeks on the medication. Took my husband only 4 weeks. I don't recall when the cravings stopped but I believe I had my last cigarette at the end of the 2nd week. A quick google search says people generally pick a quit day between 8 and 35 days after starting the medication. So it's different for everyone. I hope it kicks in soon for you. -

Sorry to hear of your complications. I hope it's just a minor detour too, and you will make it eventually, albeit you're taking a little longer route. You're in my thoughts, I hope for a speedy recovery once they get you all fixed up. -
I agree with @toodlerue. And yes it is a long time, I had 2 weeks +2 days, it was easy by the 4th day. It really prepares you for after surgery though. I think I would of had a hard time adjusting to liquids only after surgery had it not been for the liquid pre op diet. Best wishes for your upcoming surgery.

I'm in Canada and that would of been part of my full liquid stage that I started when I went home from the hospital. In the hospital I got protein shakes, sugar free juice and water. -

I had to sleep in a recliner when I got home for about week but I am able to sleep on my back now. I also have left side pains but usually when I sit for a longer period of time. I am getting about 6 hours a night now. -

Everyone is different. I step on the scale daily even though it's not recommended. I am 17 days post op and only down 9 pounds. Also I was up 4 pounds when I came home after 4 days in the hospital. -
17 days.

Congrats Joe and I wish you a speedy recovery. I am amazed when I see people posting the same day as their surgery, I didn't even look at my phone until late in the next day. -
That sounds like me, I have 3 spots that hurt me around the bottom incisions. If that could go away I would feel pretty awesome I think.

I felt the same way for sure. I didn't have a repair but I was hurting really bad and was in the hospital for 4 days. I definitely thought wtf did I do? Mind you, this was my first ever surgery. Like star said though, each day gets better in some way or another, something hurts less, something gets easier. I'm 2 weeks, 3 days out and I almost feel normal again. I still have some pain though, nothing compared to day 3 though. I wish you a speedy recovery. -
Anyone else obsessed with My 600 lb Life?
BlueIGT replied to 49Nash's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've watched quite a few episodes myself. I find it fascinating how different we all are, where we store our fat and the shapes our bodies can take. It is motivational that a lot of the people on the show do so well, and it's educational to see just how much of a tool WLS is. If you don't put in the work, surgery or not, you're not going to succeed. I, like others above do not like episodes where they have real bad attitudes or they don't want to do the work, but I do understand it's an addiction. I like to see the happy endings, but the sad ones deliver a powerful message as well. I am just grateful that I have never went to bed thinking about breakfast, ate breakfast thinking about my next snack, ate a snack thinking about the next meal, etc. If I did I think I may have ended up a lot heavier then my heaviest weight. -

I was in for 4 days and I got cleared for the full liquid diet when I went home too. Nothing pureed, seems odd to me too. It's good that you were on the ball though with the pudding and other things because you didn't need your sugar going up any higher. But I believe you are right that we do need to speak up, they weren't going to test my sugar while I was in there but I got them to and it was good that I did. Your experience, all our experiences, can help the others that still have to go in. Definitely when in doubt, ask, that's what they are there for. Like you, if they aren't getting you up to walk, ask them to get you up to walk, etc. It's a very good post.
