    Smooth Sailing for Anyone?

I’ve been seeing posts about people having sepsis and being hospitalized for months. Just basing off my past experience I’m thinking those cases would easily be hundreds of thousands of dollars. I am just getting to a place financially where something like that would totally destroy me. I’m trying to buy a house and I would definitely have to file bankruptcy If I racked up some huge self pay bill for a complication. Basically I’m thinking worst-case scenario. But you guys have helped me get some perspective.

No - sorry! I didn’t end up having to pay that balance but they did send me a copy of the bill. When I saw those numbers I was astonished. That’s what got me worrying about being self pay with complications for this procedure.

Thank you Swanton! It’s amazing how a couple of positive comments can get a person back on track. Im feeling so much more excited now!!! Yes, I am a little worried about the Hair issue to and have looked at biotine(?). I haven’t started taking anything yet. Did you try any remedies for hair loss?
  4. I see this is an old post - yes, I can relate. I was scheduled for surgery on 12/13/18 but my Mom died on Dec 5th. This was particularly hard as I was alone in dealing (and still am). I have no brothers, sisters, dad, aunt, uncles, etc. and my husband had to be in Florida working so I was in TX all alone when she died and been going back an forth for months before and after her surgery during her cancer treatments, hospice, and now checking on her house and dealing with her affairs. I have now rescheduled surgery for week after next. Sorry for your loss - hope it worked out OK for you in the end.
  5. I know nothing and am not a doctor, but if the surgery would improve the symptoms that lead to the eye issue, I would think it would make you a better candidate, not less of a candidate, for surgery. I'm sorry you are having that issue. My husband was effected in both eyes simultaneously. It was scary!
  6. My husband had those same symptoms. He first saw and optimoligist who couldn't diagnose. We then went to the ER and they did a CT brain scan on him at the ER and sent him out to retinal specialist. It was then diagnosed as a retinal neuropathy issue. I'm not implying that your diagnosis is wrong or anything, I'm just wondering if they ruled out a retina issue. My husband's was stress-related. The retina specialist said that the ER wouldn't have been able to confirm or deny this as they don't have the correct equipment to diagnose the issue. It wasn't health related at all.
  7. This is interesting. I was leaning really hard toward his bypass until I watched his bypass vs sleeve video. I haven't watched more than 6 of his videos and have never seen any of the P2P videos.... I knew while watching bypass vs sleeve that he was leaving out a lot of key points, but at the end of the video, he said something to the effect of "the bypass positives don't offset the malabsorption issue" which really made me think. I'll discuss this with my Dr!

I don’t have anybody locally here to talk to and my Dr is almost 3 hours away so I cannot participate in his support group. Again— I most definitely appreciate your feedback!

    Smooth Sailing for Anyone?

Awesome! Thank you Healthy for sharing. This is making me feel MUCH better. I have been in the hospital twice before and both became extremely complicated situations. My hospital bill (8 day stay) for my gallbladder removal was $108,000. The other occasion I had to be life flighted out of state to give birth to twins. That bill was over $200,000. If something like that happens to me this time it would financially devastate me. Hopefully all goes well. I am in desperate need of a breast reduction and want to get off of pain meds for my back. I will keep thinking positive!!!!

Thank you Green! Reading all of this stuff has really got me in my head. My surgeon says because of my more or less good health I should really not have any problems. Thanks again for the encouragement!

    Self-pay in Maryland?

I’m going to be self pay in FL. I found 3 surgeons in FL that were more “affordable”. Dr Radecke, Dr Shillingford and Dr Wizman. These are all around 10-11,000 for sleeves. 2 of those Dr do you surgery at bariatric centers of excellence. Other Florida Drs quoted me around 15,000-17,000 for sleeve. I will be cash pay up front. I am very concerned about self-pay complications though. I have United Health for insurance but Dr office told me my plan doesn’t cover bariatric AND I’m low BMI. I also have disc degeneration issues and following weight loss I also want to get a breast reduction. I have numerous herniated disc’s and a broken vertebrae. I think you are just going to have to google and call around like I did to find surgeons in your area. It was time-consuming but I wanted to make sure I knew all of my options.
