I had an open hysterectomy. My doctor said mine was a fluke and he has never had the problem before. If something bizarre or unusual is going to happen, it will happen to me every time. I asked him about scar tissue multiple times prior to surgery. I wish I had told him to do the sleeve if he couldn’t do the bypass. But I really wanted the bypass and didn’t want to put the thought in his head.

Just wanted to update that I went back and was able to get the sleeve May 1. I didn’t post earlier because I really felt there would be another reason the surgery could not be completed. I’m happily at home and pain of that last failed surgery has faded. So if for some reason you can’t get the surgery you want, don’t give up. I’m glad I tried again

I turned into a May gastric sleeve patient. I originally went to surgery March 27th for bypass but due to a previous surgery the bypass could not be done. So I went back in May 1st and came out with the sleeve. It was horrible but I’m glad to be through surgery. I’m still on full liquid diet (2weeks total) and I have zero appetite. I had some minor head hunger yesterday and today I want real food but it’s not an overwhelming craving. I’m just sick of protein drinks and yogurt. Whoever said popcorn was their weakness, I am right there with you!!! I’m sticking to this though, after all I went through to get this surgery I’m not going to do anything to mess up

I never had bad gas pains. Mine is all in one area. I also have no problems getting in my fluids which worries me this early. Everything just seems to slide on through. I am limiting myself and not testing it but I kind of wish I had more restriction

I was sleeved on the same day! They attempted bypass 6 weeks prior but couldn’t do it due to adhesions. The day after was by far the worst for me. I have one really painful area on my right side that hurts with movement. If not for that I would be feeling great. I also had hiatal hernia repair

Unsupportive Caregiver
49Nash replied to betterlate2019's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I’m sorry your family is not supportive. I’m sure it’s a huge blow. Like others have said you don’t need help with most of the tasks you listed. I had my surgery May 1st and I do everything on my own. I have my husband and kids help but they do things like but me more soup from the grocery because I can’t drive yet or I do ask them to pick stuff up if I drop it because bending down is so painful. I say find the things you really need help with and let your mom know there are some things you can’t do on your own. But you can walk, get your food from the kitchen, track you fluid etc on your own. They do suck by eating in front of you and inviting you out to eat. I am sorry they are doing that. I’m not even a little bit hungry so food has not been an issue for me but I’m also not faced with it in front me all the time. You got this!!! -
Advice for pre-op diet and journals
49Nash replied to KayBes's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I felt that way forever too, that I just wanted to get it done. Now I’m nervous but also excited. I used to get so jealous when people would post their date. Even one week before mine would make me jealous..... lol. It seemed so far away and now it’s almost here. I’m glad mine took me a year, I feel like I’m as mentally prepared as I’m e we going to be for this -
I’m set for the 27th too. I’m getting nervous. My doctor only requires the preop diet the day before but I’m trying to stay close to just to be safe

Advice for pre-op diet and journals
49Nash replied to KayBes's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That is brutal!! My process has been about a year (more actually because I quit at one point and had to restart) but I would never had been able to adhere to that diet for a year without the surgery. Good luck, I’m sure they don’t expect you to be perfect but you probably have better long term outcomes by knowing what you are in for. My surgery is in 8 days, which is freaking me out after all this time!!! -
Anyone else find it difficult with liver shrinking diet with their surgeries?
49Nash replied to cristobal's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgery is the 27th but I only have to do the full liquid diet the day before. But these last few days I’ve had the same the same thoughts. Thinking about all the foods I will have to give up for life. I’m struggling with it and I’m still on real food. I have given up almost anything good for 3-4 months but I always knew I COULD have it, but to know I CAN’T is really messing with my mind -
Can you add your carbs in with fruit or sweet potatoes? Something that has fiber?

I have been about 1 1/2 years in this process. At one point I stopped due to a new job and hoping I could do it on my own. I completed an extensive program through the VA to get approved for surgery and there was a delay time and again. I finally got the approval but the surgeon I chose also had requirements, most of which I had already done with the VA. I was frustrated and I was so jealous when people would get their surgery dates. But I think the extra time has been so helpful to me. I feel confident I can make this change because I’ve already made massive changes to my diet and lifestyle. Changes I would not have done without the wait. I would have relied on surgery to “fix” everything. They may think your weight gain is due to your depression and anxiety and want that addressed so you are successful. Jump through the hoop and put the time to good use. Your time will come and you will be better prepared due to the wait. We didn’t gain this weight in 6 months and it’s ok to not be on the fast track. Better to follow the advice and lose the weight and keep it off than to find a way to bypass it and undo the surgery a year from now. You got this!!! My surgery is 3 weeks from today and I feel like my time is almost here. But I still get jealous that people are scheduled before me. Good luck!!! P.S., I’m going to talk to my doctor about seeing a therapist on a regular basis just so I don’t end up undoing my surgery.

BIG NEWS! Several insurers are REMOVING supervised diet requirements
49Nash replied to Walter Lindstrom's topic in Insurance & Financing
I agree with this post 100 percent! I think we need the time to get our head in the right place. I have my surgery in 3 weeks and I know I would not have been as successful if I wasn’t forced to jump through these hoops. Only time will tell how successful I am in the long run. I hope doctors continue to require at least 4-6 months -
How do I know I'm not being impulsive?
49Nash replied to Pippa1703's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgery is March 27th and I have been in this process a year and a half (I stopped after a few meetings due to a new job and really wanting to give myself one last chance to lose on my own. I also make impulsive decisions so I know how that is. I will say I think ANY clinic that does surgery 2-3 weeks after you contact them is more than a red flag, it’s a huge red neon billboard. Like others have said this is major surgery with a lifetime of dietary restrictions attached to it. And saying you don’t like to drink so that will be a plus means you need to keep reading. Getting your water in is vital after surgery and that and the protein requirements are the biggest struggles in the beginning (and the gas pains from what I have read...haha). . There is nothing wrong with knowing you want to follow this path but you need to get mentally prepared before the surgery as well as financially prepared if you have to pay out of pocket. Any surgeon who does gastric weight loss surgery after 3 weeks of knowing a patient is reckless and irresponsible at the very least and potentially deadly in the worst. Your doctor should put you through a battery of testing covering multiple areas to ensure you are a suitable candidate. Be smart before you let someone cut out and revise vital organs -
What happens if you don’t lose the required number of pounds? Do they cancel your surgery?

Anyone else obsessed with My 600 lb Life?
49Nash replied to 49Nash's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have wondered about how fast they get approved also but I wonder if it’s because Dr Now is honestly trying to save their lives and at 700 lbs he doesn’t think they will last long enough to go through a long approval process. But they almost all seem to really struggle after but I’m sure no matter what they would since there has to be so much going on to get to 800 lbs. I don’t eat anything like them but I eat poor enough to need this surgery and I wonder what I will be like after surgery. So I don’t want to cast too many stones in case I am living in my own glass house🤣 -
Anyone else obsessed with My 600 lb Life?
49Nash replied to 49Nash's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have lots of guilty pleasure trash tv shows, this just one of them. Too funny it makes you hungry! Doesn’t do that to me but I can’t watch The Great British Baking Show anymore because it triggers strong sugar cravings in me. I love that show too😢 -

I so agree with you. She was so manipulative. I bet she has a personality disorder. That show and the one with 2 brothers and one was pain pill seeking were the two I just did not like and I couldn’t finish the Where Are They Now episode with the brother -

I did see that. I had watched the Where are they now episode with him online right after his mom died. So sad. -
Me either!!!

I’m pre-surgery so of course I have no real clue. But I love artificial sweeteners and my nutritionist says I can keep using them post surgery. I could never get all my water without drink drops to flavor my water

I’m all for long term success!! My BMI is just under 50, they claim I am 5’3 but I’m sticking with my 5’5” I’ve said my whole life. I’m 262 right now.

I started working on not drinking with or within 30 minutes of my meals yesterday and it’s way harder than I thought it would be! For some reason as soon as my timer goes off saying it’s time to stop drinking I’m super thirsty. I am also doing a major purge of my house. I think it’s all this nervous energy I have combined with the fact my job put me on furlough recently. I know this is horrible but I also worry something catastrophic will happen during surgery and I want to leave my house in order. That’s my biggest fear of this surgery really. I have kids and a husband and it stresses me out.

Stephanie, I had to google the DS, I wonder why it’s not talked about much? Why did you choose that surgery? Looks like a good combo of the sleeve and bypass with the intestines.

Snoring and sleep apnea
49Nash replied to angie_is_losing_it's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Even though it will suck if they make you do a sleep study and potentially delay the surgery I would. I have sleep apnea and was told after surgery some people have more trouble at night after anesthesia for several days so it’s important to use my machine. Not worth dying over
