  1. Thanks for the advice...but it seems that maybe something else is wrong. I ate a popscicle and immediately got sick to my stomach...lots of saliva production, but no vomiting. SHortly after, I took a small Gas X gel pill to help alleviate the gas and got sick to my stomach again...dry heaved hard a couple times but nothing came up. I feel sick to my stomach now, especially when I lay down, in addition to the feeling of being full. I've taken pills without problems since I got back from the hospital on Saturday night, so why *now* am I getting sick? Also have a slight pain right below my rib cage, to the left of one of my incisions (the incisions themselves are fine and not infected). Of course, none of these problems happened *while the MD's office was open*. I am going to call them tomorrow AM...I'll feel really stupid if this is all gas related, but if this sounds like something else that might be serious, I'd appreciate the insight. :sick
  2. When I first started seriously researching the band, I had it in my mind to go to all the surgeons that performed them in the city (we have quite a few). My work colleague had the band done in October 2005, and he went to Dr. Ren at NYU. I went to the info session, which was supposed to be run by Dr. Ren, but in her stead, Dr. Fielding did the session. It was love at first sight. :puke: After listening to him, his credentials (he's done the most bandings worldwide), his own personal experience (he's been banded for 6 years)and immediately taking to his personality and manner, I decided to stop looking. He was who I wanted to do my surgery. Normally, I wouldn't even think about *not* getting at least three consultations, but my gut (no pun intended) said he was the right one! T-minus 5 days and counting til my life changes forever!

I Need Advice for Pre-Op Diet

My doctor prescribed a 2 week, 1,000 cal liquid diet with at least 50g of Protein and no more than 35g of fat. They really didn't say anything to me about carbs. Also, I can have up to 2 c. of salad veggies/carrots/broccoli (with up to 2 tbsp of fat free dressing) plus low or nonfat broth, diet soda, sugar free Jello. I was having problems with dealing with the liquid diet (I wanted to CHEW), so the office's nutritionist told me I could have a 3oz can of tuna with the salad, or a serving of fat free cheese. She actually told me that if I needed an extra 100 cal, it was okay for a few days until I got used to the liquid diet. Hope that helps...and yeah, get those answers from your MD's office! They should have told you all of this before. Good luck!
  4. Hello, everyone! I just found this community today...6 days before my surgery (Feb 11th). My name is Christina (or stina for short), I'm 32 years old, and I'd been researching/considering LAP Band surgery for about a year before I decided to seriously go forward with it. I'll be having my surgery done by Dr. George Fielding at NYU Medical Center. I have a goal of 110 pounds, but depending on how I feel and look, I may go to 120...we'll play it by ear! :biggrin1: To say that I'm nervous is an understatement. I know this is the right decision for me and my heath, and my family and friends are 100% supportive and proud. But I am nervous and scared of making the wrong food choices, of getting sick, of the surgery itself, of what it means to not be able to eat the way I used to, of how I might feel left out socially, etc. I know these are probably all things that everyone feels at some point. I just feel like the surgery is coming up so fast and I don't have time to process it all. Additionally, I'm in line for a HUGE job that will mean a major step up in my career...this plus the surgery is at the same time is really messing with my head. I hope to learn so much from all of you...any words of encouragement or advice you can give would be appreciative. Also, I'm not quite up on all the terminology, so be patient if I ask dumb questions! :biggrin1: Speaking of...FIRST DUMB QUESTION! NYU's clinic tells its patients to go on a 1,000 calorie, low-fat, high Protein liquid diet for 2 weeks before surgery to de-fat the liver. Is this routine...have others gone through this, too? I just got through week one BARELY...but I felt like I wanted to rip someone's head off, I was that irritable! :angry Thanks, everyone!
  5. Thanks for the warm welcomes, Alex and Susan...I'm pretty sure that the liquid diet is something the surgeon prescribes for *everyone* having the surgery...it's in their standard info packets. I've "cheated" twice, but kept the foods I cheated on low calorie AND low-fat, staying within the caloric restrictions for the day, and limiting portions. Now that I'm over the hump, I think I'll be okay for the next 6 days (except I REALLY want a turkey burger...lol!).
