Post surgery questions
justmetj replied to Jenni L's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Did you have a drainage tube or catheter in the hospital? No Did you have to go home with a drainage tube? No Were you able to sleep on your stomach when you came home? If no, how long was it until you could? My Dr. said I could but it wasn't comfortable I’ve heard people recommend having a pillow for your stomach? Does that help if your surgery was laparoscopic? I brought my pillow to use in the hospital but didn't need it for the trip home And last but not least...is there anything you wish you would have known about what you would experience after surgery. I wish someone would have told me that it's normal to mourn the way I used to be able to eat a lot. For example going out to a nice dinner or Thanksgiving and not being able to eat more than a few bites and being a little sad about it. It does get better with time and soon you'll adjust to a new normal and will be happy that you can only take a few bites and now have control over your eating......Good luck! -

It usually happens to me when I'm not eating enough protein. But sometimes my body will throw a temper tantrum like a child and that's when I go tough love on it and have a cup of coffee or tea and get busy on a project til the next meal to get my mind off of eating.

The What Makes Me Hungry Support Thread

An apple is the only thing that makes me feel famished after eating. The only way around it for me is to eat protein first then a small slice of apple after. The other thing is when I get out of the car and smell the aromas of a good restaurant nearby 🤤 -

Law enforcement time off

If you're lucky enough to be in a department that offers light duty you could be back after a week or two. If not, and you're having to wear a Sam Browne with all your equipment plus a ballistic vest and running down suspects then the full six weeks is a must. -

If I'm out to dinner or a special event I'll get a glass of Cabernet or a skinny margherita and just sip it slowly. -

How many calories do you eat a day?
justmetj replied to april042019's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I didn't know there was a give or take on your calories maybe that's why you're in a stall also. Maybe do a baseline of exactly 1000 calories for one week then if the scale doesn't move, up it 100 for a week to see if there's a change. Sometime you have to do this to find your "sweet spot". Once you find it you should lose more consistently. -

How many calories do you eat a day?
justmetj replied to april042019's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
It absolutely works. At first try increasing your calories by 100 a day by adding some healthy snacks like protein, fruit or peanut butter and see if the scale starts moving if not you may have to go up another 100. -

How many calories do you eat a day?
justmetj replied to april042019's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Are you accurately counting all your calories? That seems like a long time to be in a stall at your current weight and only eating 1000 calories a day. -
How many calories do you eat a day?
justmetj replied to april042019's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
On most things yes. I'm supposed to be at 1/2 cup at this point since I'm almost five months out but find it difficult to reach that most days. Yesterday I measured 1/2 cup of cottage cheese and was only able to eat half. I also stop IMMEDIATELY when I start to feel full even spitting food out instead of swallowing the next bite if I start to feel that sensation mid chew. I'm so paranoid that I will stretch out my stomach and lose my restriction because everyone says the further out you get the less restriction you have. I think that preventing pouch stretch is just as important as counting calories and eating healthy.
