    Needing Motivation

Hi I had my surgery in May 2009 and I havent lost any weight since the mushie stage. I will be the first to admit that I havent been following the diet correctly, and life has gotten in the way. I ended a 4 year relationship after a complication with the band - it was too tight so they needed to drain it all and im starting again. Ive lost 15kg in total, which is great, but I havent been able to kick past it. I really need to work on it but i am lacking serious motivation. What keeps everyone motivated?
  2. Hi Guys In March 2010, i had 7.5ml in my band and i felt sick and i ended up throwing up for hours. I contacted the Emergency Hours number for my clinic and they took all the Fluid out. Now in October 2010 today, im having lots of pain in my stomach area, it doesnt feel like anything is stuck (been there done that) but i have an appointment at 2pm to get checked out. I now have 6ml in my band as of Wednesday when he put 0.5ml in. Of course its a Public Holiday here in Adelaide so the fees will be enormous, but all im thinking is, is it worth it? I dont want the surgeon to drain it all again- it sucks having to start the process again. Ill let you all know what happens.
  3. I had my first consultant on Jan 8 2009 and then the surgery on May 25. I had to wait for my private health insurance to kick over the 12months. So it could of been April 09 however she wasnt free, so May 25 it was!

Am I always going to have problems?

Hey Guys I went and my clinic last week, week before. Ive been a bit busy with my studies, im studying Law and its exam time, so im just focusing on that. However, he put 4ml and ill be seeing them again on Nov 17. I havent really been following anything too strictly due to crazy hours with study. But lets see how i go.

Am I always going to have problems?

So i went and saw the clinic and they drained me again! I am sooo depressed over it, whenever they put it in after March, they only gave me 2ml at the beginning, then 0.5ml each time. Im on a liquid diet for a few days but i think i will do it for a week or more and when i feel normal again ill do mushies, i just really want this weight to come off. I see a personal trainer twice a week and the weightloss is just so slow. I am going back to see them next week. So i wonder what is going to happen.

    Adelaide surgeons

I was originally going to go with Dr Bessell but switched to Dr Lilian Kow, she is amazing, the entire team at Circle of Care is just inspirational. I have a follow up appointment tomorrow i am 15 months post surgery and with anything they are helpful. I have had a few set backs but regardless the team is just wonderful. Im looking forward to the appointment tomorrow. Good Luck with your choice.

    Adelaide Bandsters???

hey guys im back, ive moved house and finally have the internet connected! I went and saw my clinic today and gotmy first fill, i learned that i have a 11ml band and i now have 4ml in it and i should start to have some restriction which will be great! i have to do mushies for 2 days and then i can continue with solids. im starting to get my groove back, ive resigned from my current job and i have accepted a position closer to home which is walking distance, so there is my 30 mins of exercise a day, i have also joined a gym which is a 5 min walk so i will go to that 3 times a week. My new job starts on Monday so bring on August! i have my next appointment on Oct 2, so i hope to lose 10kg by then.

    Adelaide Bandsters???

Tarob -Wow, really only 2 months to go, thats going to fly! 8kg, thats doable 500grams a week! Small steps tho, dont worry if you dont lose it all in one go, its the lifestyle changes that will make it all worthwhile! Ive got my first appointment next week - hopefully ill get a fill. I resigned from my job so im thinking they wont let me have time off so what to do, ill think of something. The past few days ive been moving house, and im still moving - havent unpacked, just small bits, cant wait til its all moved then i can unpack and decorate my house. I cant believe i bought a house - its so awesome. I dont have the internet at home so i prob wont be back for a week or two. good luck to those getting banded!

    Adelaide Bandsters???

The first week on fluids is awesome because there is definitely restriction, i lost 4kg that week. The second week for me was hit and miss, some days felt hungry others not. I didnt lose any weight that week. Week 3 i was ready to eat solids however couldnt and this made me snappy haha. Week 4 i started to introduce mushies. In that 4 week cycle i lost 4.9kg in total. Which is good i reckon :frown:

    Adelaide Bandsters???

Hi Choney I went through the Adelaide Bariatric Clinic and there are two surgeons there. Dr Lilian Kow (lovely, amazing lady) and Prof James Touli They practice at either Flinders Private at Bedford Park or at Calvary Private in North Adelaide. Both really well respected surgeons could not be more happy with how i have been treated pre and post surgery

    Adelaide Bandsters???

Im finding i can eat what i want - i just need to make it until 28 July til i can have my first fill. i just want the restriction

    Adelaide Bandsters???

I saw on my statement from my health fund that they paid out $8.5k im so glad i didnt have to come up with that money

    Adelaide Bandsters???

Yeah my Private Health Insurance covered it all which was good. i think Tarob is having it done in Sept/Oct via public health system, so he may be a good person to ask. As Leah said, Dr Bessell's clinic is great, i only switched due to costs and that meant i could have it done sooner! Im not too sure what other post op fees i will have but ill let you know when they come about.

    Adelaide Bandsters???

My surgeon had a no gap policy for the surgery however charged $2200 for specialists for post op appointments eg dietician etc. However in the lead up to the surgery those appointments where not covered and i probably spent $300 on visits. I had my surgery by Dr Lilian Kow from Circle of Care or Adelaide Bariatric Centre at Flinders Private or Calvary Hospital. She was awesome. I would recommend them.

Trish - congrats on your loss so far:thumbup:, must be awesome! I havent had any pains yet but ill let you know if something happens because im gym bound tomorrow morning im all clear to go! I would love to have a chat with your mother in law one day just so i can put her in her place just quietly tho:tt2:. Leah - Good job on clothing size,:bored: youre almost there to be able to walk into store and pick anything you want and it will fit! I can not wait until that happens for me! I was a 22 when i started, and my 22 is now loose fitting and a really expensive suit i bought is a size 18 and i can do the pants up however i cant breathe so i can a couple more kg's and ill be right! Angela - welcome!!!:scared2: small steps to the food and you will do awesome, how are you going with your total weight loss? I went for my first Post Op appointment today - no fill i should be able to get that when i see Dr Kow again on the 28 July. The dietician is happy with my loss so far and said i have lost 13kgs since i first saw him in March woohoo. I am happy with that! I also get to go the gym which i am happy about i have to keep my weight loss going but i have to take it easy until i complete their exercise thingo with the physiotherapist which i start on 6 August. There was this one lady in the clinic this arvo who is having her band removed *eavesdropped on her conversation to her friend* because she believes she is too stressed and its impacting her band. Im not too sure what i think about that.

    Adelaide Bandsters???

So im back from my trip to Melbourne! I had an awesome time! I want to go back! On the flight i was fine, nothing out of the ordinary, but when i landed and was on the bus getting taken to the city i felt really tight in the stomach, it was awful i just breathed and after about 10 mins it was gone. That being said when i flew back to Adelaide i didnt have that after landing so im not too sure what it was. I ate omg! I had scrambled eggs for Breakfast at the Hotel which were amazing! Lunch i tried to buy as mushy as i could get, usually i would pick at my partners chips. Then dinner was spaghetti but i kept ordering ones with no meat (annoying) but maybe that it a good thing. I did eat a few Krispy Kreme donuts, they were fine, i chewed them so much! I didnt have any problems with eating in Melbourne which was great. So this week im going to get into the mushy thing and see what happens, i dont think ive lost anything this week due to my eating chips and donuts but meh i had an awesome time for the 3 days i was there!

    Adelaide Bandsters???

Yeah so broth based soups - just remember what they give you in hospital haha. Its like boiled chicken stock hehehe. Lucky my surgeon said anything i can get down a straw, so ive been having lots of different types of soup.

    Adelaide Bandsters???

Its amazing isnt it how people tell you "youre perfect how you are etc" but its not about them its about you. I have my high school reunion in November and i was a bit fatter then, i can not wait to see their faces when im alot slimmer, i just hope they are all not wafer thin. I really think this is the best decision i have made and i cant believe i didnt do it sooner, but its done now and im loving it. I get to start mushies on Thursday im so excited for scrambled eggs!!!

i got my lapband done 3 days ago

I didnt have any pain so i can only sympathise for you. As the other people have said it should pass and it is all worth it in the end even tho we have our moments.

    Adelaide Bandsters???

Aaah so it must be a helpdesk role hehehe. I found on my first day back i got a bit sore, i think its because of the different movements sitting at a desk and reaching etc. But i was fine.
