hi diva, i was banded 7/3/08 and i feel the same as you. i tried every diet under the sun only to gain what i lost and more. my lap band is a gift to myself for health going forward in my life. isnt it agreat feeling when everyone is talking aboutthe latest diet, that we dont have to try and have the diet fail us and be on that merry go round ever again. good for you in your decision for good health. so far my journey has been good and i hope yours will be too.

What does your port feel like to touch
got2gethealthy replied to slimmy120's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
my port feels huge  i was banded 7/3 and no problems except for the port pain and gas. i cant bend, lay flat or walk far because of it. because of the port pain on bad hours i sure regret being banded, and i forget why i wanted this in the first place. i thought i would be done dieting but found out i will have to follow the exchange diet that i hate. on better hours i am grateful i cound get this done and remember this too shall pass. -
Second thoughts pre opt
got2gethealthy replied to flowers's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
it was taking forever to get approved and i thought it wasnt going to be for me, my husband was the greatest support and kept saying i could do it myself. obviously that wasnt true as i failed more than i succeeded. I am a carb addict too, leaning towards breads and sweets. I had to decide if carbs and sweets were going to rule my life forever and then get bigger because of it, or take control and to something positive for myself. My first diet i ever tried was one i went on with my mom at 10 years old. When my mom passed, we were heavy and miserable because of it. I decided that mom and i are doing this together, and i will succeed for her as much as for me. No more diet of the month , no more special foods just healthy food for my body and happy that the journey has begun. -
I finally got my surgery date for july 3rd, my independance day !! my dr has his patients give themselves shots of lovenox to prevent blood clots for 10 days post surgery. My insurance doesnt cover them and it will be about 240.00 for the 10 shots. he then told me if i cant afford them to not worry about getting them! has anyone else had to do the lovenox shots? what did your dr. tell you about them?

Caffiene???
got2gethealthy replied to Little Debbie's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
what i heard from the dietian was coffee and tea are very acidic and caffine interfers with the absorbsion of iron, plus band erosion, heartburn, and just unhealthy and acts like a diuretic. I will give up everything i need to but on a summer dayeven diluted iced tea will be in my hand ! -

negativity from family and friends
got2gethealthy replied to cmayes's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
thanks for you responses..I am going to a private dr my gp recommended. I have arthritis in my knees, gerd, going to be tested for sleep apnea and although cancer and diabetis runs in my family i have no signs of it. I just want more from life than this, my mom followed this path of depression and self hate until her dying day. I want more. I dont want my feet and legs to hurt, rashes in nooks and crannies, size 3x clothes. i want to walk with my husband and grandkids. one thing i know is that whether or not i can get this for me, i'll have learned a few things and just have to go another way. wish id have thought about the weights around the ankles though !! lol -
negativity from family and friends
got2gethealthy replied to cmayes's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am new to this board but read it several times a day. I am 55 with a bmi of 37. I think for me this is the hardest thing, my family's opinion of my journey. I have told no one except my husband and grown sons. My self doubts are harder for me to get over.My husband is also a "eat less exercise more person." what if i spend all this money and i cant get the surgery? what if i fail? I read the struggles of you all, the wins the set backs. even with the band it seems like it will be a lifelong war between me and food. The only thing that makes sense to me is the band helps you not to over eat (although i suppose not following the program that can happen too). It is all confusing. the only thing I know for fact is i am tired of being, thinking and apoligizing for fat ! O guess i am rambling, but i've failed sooo many times let my husband down sooo many times, i just dont want to fail. or worse be denied for the surgery. but dietitian is friday and phych next monday so for now full speed ahead... -
now I know that the answers to my question are on this board somewhere....but cant find it..I met with the surgeon last week. He asked me to lose weight going forward. Well, duh if i could have done it before for longer than 2 days i wouldnt be thinking of banding ! anyway I tried slimfasts' program. I was SOOO nauseated that on the 2nd day i modified it a tad to eat more food...I know pre and post banding we go on liquid protein like medifast but the nausea it can cause (or so I read somewhere) will for me be the worse part. If you got nauseated pre or post banding, what did you find that helped ?:confused2:

thank you lapdancer ! always get ahead of myself with questions. I typed nausea in the search and found lots of help. Thanks again..sue

Any May Bandsters?
got2gethealthy replied to epm316's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I went to my first consult with the surgeon today so I am starting the journey in May so hope I can join you all in the journey ! I think the consult raised more questions than I had to start with. The doc said lose weight before the op. but not how much or even how ! if i knew how I wouldnt need the surgery. I have 75 to lose after the banding. How did you all lose weight before your surgeries? thanks
