    What can't you eat??

Please do not go on this one person's experience. I am 8 months out and I have never PB'd. I pay attention to what I'm eating, small bites and chew, and stop before I get full. The only things I have trouble with (and note this is not PB'ing, my stomach just hurts when I eat them) are popcorn and fruit skin. Other than that, I've been fine. Good luck with your surgery!
  2. This  In my experience, the first few weeks after banding were great because I had alot of swelling. Once that went down, I got my first fill which did zilch. I didn't really feel restriction till I was at 7.3 cc in my 10 cc band and that was at about 6 months out. However, I never gained except for when I went on vacation and allowed myself to eat whatever, whenever. I quickly lost it when I got back home and on plan. For me, I have to be accountable. I calorie count (actually it's points cause I do WW). I've lost consistently. You can too. Don't expect the band to do all the work for you. You have to work it. Good luck!

    Oh, it hurts

Is the pain in your port area? Everyone who is banded reacts differently, but if I overeat, I get really bad port pain and it hangs around for awhile. I can eat rice just fine if I take my time and eat slow but I wasn't allowed to have solid food at 3 weeks out. Maybe you're pushing it a bit? I would cut back and try extra hard to listen to your body. Everyone has a cue to stop eating. You just need to pay attention to it. For me, it's pressure in my port or a hiccup. I know if I continue eating then, I'm gonna pay for it. Hope you feel better soon!
  4. Thanks so much for your comment! I just read that you got approved. Congratulations!!! Are you getting excited?

  5. Thank you so much for your comment! I've still got 45 pounds till goal. I wish I had lost as quickly as you! You've done fantastic! I can't believe they haven't offered you a lap band commercial at your doctor's office. Congrats on all your hard work! You look fantastic!!

I'm sorry to hear you've been sick, LilMissDiva. Rest up and make sure you keep hydrated. My mom is now home from the hospital. Thanks everyone for your well wishes. I got a fill on Thursday so I'm now at 7.8cc in my 10cc band. It feels pretty good. I'm not super tight (I've never even PB'd in the entire 8 months I've been banded) but the restriction feels pretty good right now. I got back on plan today and logged every bite. I weighed 189 exactly this morning. YAY! I even went down a point on my daily allotment so now I'm at 24 points. Congrats on the 3lb loss China!!

Hi all! Sorry, I have been MIA from posting for awhile. My mother had some problems, ironically it's from a WLS but not one many have heard of, BPD with duodenal switch. She's had many problems the last 5 years since she had the procedure. She was recently in the hospital again so between that, work, husband, and kids. I haven't really been on plan. Oddly enough, I still lost weight but I think it's because the band gets tight for me when I'm stressed. I plan on starting back with tracking all my points on Monday which is my weigh in day. I've been doing WW online for 7 weeks now and I've gone from 197.8 to 189.4. I'm really happy with those results. I'm over half way to my goal weight and I've been banded for 8 months. It looks like there's alot of new people doing WW. It really is a useful tool with the band. Great job everyone!!

    I don't have enough restriction

I really didn't feel much restriction till I hit 7.3 cc in my 10 cc band which took 4 fills. Lapband is a slow process for many people. You just have to give it time and until then work to develop good lapband habits, like chewing your food, waiting between bites, asking yourself if you're really hungry, etc. This will make things that much easier for you when you hit restriction. Good luck!

    Popcorn- Good? Bad?

You're not the only one. I would rather stuff myself with a giant yeast roll than swallow one kernel of popcorn *LOL* The 3 times I tried it (yes, I know I'm stupid) within a couple hours I was in the bathroom with the most excruciating stomach pains. Never again.

Rationale behind not drinking before you eat??

I don't know either. It doesn't make sense to me. Just like the fact that my doctor doesn't allow you to eat anything the day of a fill. How does me eating breakfast at 6 am affect having a fill at 3pm??? That food would have long passed. Personally, I don't think drinking up till the time you eat harms anything but what do I know :w00t:
  12. You also have to realize that many people are misinformed about WLS. They always know someone who is a friend of a friend of a long lost relative who died when they had WLS:rolleyes2: One thing I really love about my band is that it's given me the opportunity to educate others about the process. I've found that once people really know what having the band is like most are extremely supportive.
  13. I still don't feel really excited yet. I guess it's because I was once really thin and I still have that image in my head. Right now I still consider myself pretty fat. I think once I hit around 175 I'll just start considering myself chubby :w00t:

    Intro & lot's of questions!!

Hi there! I am not in your age range but I wanted to chime in as I noticed some of the other posters were in the very high BMI range prior to surgery. They will lose weight at a much faster rate than you as their diet was probably more unhealthy compared to you or I. I started close to the same BMI as you. I feel my weight loss has been slow. I do not regret the band but I'm still less than a year post op. I've had to work the band much harder than I thought going in. I had to join Weight Watchers. I also have pretty constant pain in my port. On the positive side, I've gone from a size 20 to a 12 and almost feel like a normal person again:biggrin: Research all your options. Go to the complications section of this site so you are aware of everything going in. And make sure to choose a very experienced doctor. Best of luck to you in your decision!
  15. Right here! I'm doing pretty good. At times, I would have liked to have lost more by now but I think I came into this whole thing with some pretty lofty expectations. I'm over half way to goal and I've gone from a size 20 to a 12 so I'm very happy about that. Hoping to reach goal by sometime next spring. Sounds like the rest of you have done wonderfully! Keep up the good work!

    Overnight Hospital stay?

I had an overnight stay and was so happy about it. PCA pump with Dilaudid = happiness. Plus, I have 2 young children. I was able to just sleep after my surgery without disturbances so that was nice.

    Popcorn friend or foe?

I mourn the loss of popcorn. I just simply cannot eat it since being banded. I'm a glutton for punishment, so I "experimented" with popcorn three times before I came to terms that I cannot digest it any longer. My symptoms were terrible stomach cramps followed by a trip to the bathroom (I know, TMI) about 4 hours after I eat the popcorn. I went to the movies this past weekend (saw Julie and Julia with my mom). I was really feeling sad over not being able to have popcorn. I guess it's ok since movie theater popcorn isn't exactly the healthiest snack anyways.

I think that is really great what they said at your meeting Irene. I know in the past before I was banded, if I messed up at one meal, I'd just throw my whole plan out the door because I had "already messed the day up." All that did was make me fatter I'm not so good at forgiving myself but I think we all need to do that. So what if we have a bad day??? tomorrow is a new one :w00t: BTW, I love skinny cow. I can't eat real ice cream because it makes me GAIN like crazy. I also like the WW Desserts. The strawberry shortcake and the chocolate chip cookie dough are awesome. I have a sweet tooth, if you haven't noticed

So today was my weigh in day. I weighed in this morning at....... 192.8!! YAY! How awesome is that?? 3rd week of WW and I lost 2.6 pounds. I am feeling pretty good =) Hopefully this will continue and I will reach my goal weight sometime in the early spring.
  22. You are doing fantastic girl!!! I had a bit of a setback this past month. I went on vacation for 2 weeks and ate whatever I wanted so of course, I ended up gaining. I joined WW online 2 weeks ago so I can get myself back on plan. I still find I can overeat with the band so I now realize I'm gonna have to count calories. So far I've lost both weeks on Weight Watchers. I weighed in at 195.4 last week. Tomorrow is my weigh in day so I'm hoping I lose again. I go to see Dr. Lord on the 10th of September. I can still feel restriction especially with certain food. I think I'm close to my sweet spot. I just need to stick to the plan.

74 pounds is phenomenal! What's your goal weight? I wanna be 145 so I've still got 50 lbs to lose. That doesn't sound to hard, does it ? *LOL*

Hey gals! Yesterday wasn't such a great day for me food wise. Had a bit of a family emergency and by the time all was said and done, we ended up going through the drive through. Although, I must say I did much better than I would have in the past. I got a kids meal & I counted the points. I weigh in tomorrow, hoping for a loss. Oh and my ticker is not right. I was 194 but then gained on vacation. So here's my numbers thus far. After vacation 197.8 1st week of weight watchers 196.4 2nd week 195.4 My 30th birthday is this week so I'm depressed & excited at the same time. I know I'm gonna have to stay OP through the week so I can use my WP's for a piece of cake I'll post tomorrow at work. Hope everyone is doing well!
