Good for you Foxxy! Get back on track =) My port kills me when I overeat too! I get so mad at myself when I do that so I know exactly what you're talking about. It's hard to break old habits sometimes though. We just have to keep working at it!

Looking to talk to people who may regret getting banded
NurseMelly replied to Carriedaway78's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Carrie- have you tried to figure out why you PB so much? Are you chewing, cutting small bites, eating slowly, taking a break between bites, etc? If you're not feeling restriction, there has to be some reason why you're Pb'ing, right? Just trying to help you out here. I have 8.3 cc in my band and I'm almost 11 months out. I really didn't get restriction till around 6 months or so post op but during the time before that I really practiced hard with the banding rules so that I wouldn't have problems when I did reach restriction. I've never Pb'd and I've been stuck twice and both were my fault and I've learned from those incidences. What I'm trying to say is maybe if you can figure out why you PB and correct that, the doctor will fill your band again and you will get restriction and come to like the band more. I would hate being banded if all I did was vomit all the time. -
"Diets" after the band
NurseMelly replied to critterlady's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Everyone does things a little differently. I don't measure out my food. I did in the beginning when I didn't have restriction and could eat alot more. Now, I know when to stop eating and if I don't I'll pay the price. I do believe I eat more than 1/2 cup of food. That seems ridiculously small but like I said I don't measure so I'm not certain. I also don't focus heavily on Protein. We're not malabsorbing with a LAP-BAND® and I don't keep my band so tight that I can't eat, so I'm not worried about not getting enough nutrients. For Breakfast I'll have either fruit, oatmeal, Cereal, or sometimes just a nonfat mocha. lunch, I'll have a grilled chicken salad, chicken and brown rice, yogurt, or chili. dinner, I'll eat whatever the family is having. I'm not the fastest loser but this works for me without feeling deprived. -
Help! I feel that this whole thing isn't working for me right.....
NurseMelly replied to marfar7's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Marci, By your weight loss stats, it appears you are doing very well. This is a process and you will not lose the weight overnight. If that is your idea of success, you need to put that notion out of your head. Eat good, nutritious foods, exercise, and get your fills. You will lose the weight in time! And please don't rely on getting sick to make you stop eating. There are plenty of people on these boards who seem to do that and they're the same ones posting with complications down the road. I can eat bread, rice, and Pasta and I have good restriction. I just eat limited portions. You need to learn your soft stop. Puking is a hard stop. My soft stop is just a tad bit of pressure in my port. I know when I feel that I need to stop and that is actually before I am "full". Hope this will help you out some and best of luck in your journey! -
I don't drink soda. Soda is just plain bad for you as it leeches the calcium from your bones. I gave it up before surgery and it was so hard so I decided never to go back!

Slimming - Try to keep it down or let it come back up?
NurseMelly replied to timmmers's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You're lucky if you can get the food to come back up! In my case, I never have been able to. I got stuck on some pot roast the other night and OMG, it was horrible. Chest pain all the way to my shoulder blades and I started sliming. Nothing I did, which included walking, jumping, yoga poses, dancing around, yakking in the trash, would let it come back up. So, I slimed for an hour =( Finally, it passed. Instant relief. Hope I can avoid another episode in the future! -
Looking for experiences of people with stats like mine
NurseMelly replied to Linnipoo's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I think we're pretty similar in stats. I'm at 66 pounds lost and I was banded in late January. I tend to have 2 really good months of weight loss and then I hang out for a month with nothing. I only have 35 pounds left to lose so I'm pretty happy =) -

Happy Halloween Everyone!!!!!!! Sorry I have been MIA for so long. I've had alot of job stress going on (currently on the hunt for a new one). So between home and work, I haven't had as much time to post as I would like. I'm doing really well with my weight loss. I'm down to 181 now. I'm a slow loser but I'm very steady. This morning I did my first 5k with a local gal I met from LBT (waves at Mary). I was not very fast but I finished. A little over 3 miles is a big step for me. I hate exercising  but I had a really good time and my husband came too. He beat me, of course, but was cheering for me at the finish line. I went and got a fill yesterday. I had noticed a difference in my hunger level since I had lost the last 8 pounds. I'm at 8.3cc now. I'm also only about 35 pounds from my goal weight. I can't believe it! It seems so close but so far away at the same time. I really wanted to be at goal by a year out but I don't think I will and I'm ok with that. I'm thinking maybe by next summer. I'm going to allow myself a couple pieces of Halloween candy but no more. Then I plan on being really good till Thanksgiving! HAHA I hope all of you are doing well!! Keep going- we're coming up on the toughest time of year! -
I swear Tracy looks crazy! I can't figure out if that's part of her act or she's really just nuts. I almost died laughing when Jillian was like "she's bananas. B-A-N-A-N-A-S." *LMAO*

My experience with getting my wisdom tooth (only one removed) was much different than what Hummingbird posted. Now, mine was impacted so I believe that involved some more work. I was also not put under as the dental insurance I had at the time didn't cover it. I thought it was really painful. I couldn't eat solid foods for a week and after that I developed dry socket. Aaagh! It was horrible. I was on pain meds for 2 weeks. It was much worse than my recovery from LAP-BAND® surgery. I hope yours isn't like that. I would prepare for the worst and hope for the best. Are you planning on taking off from work/school for awhile? I would take off a week just in case and you can always go back early if you're feeling better.

What can't you eat after you are banded?
NurseMelly replied to SumSum's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You have to know that everyone who is banded is different. Some people choose to keep their band very tight. I do not. I'm with crzytchr and like to eat a little more. I feel I'm at my sweet spot (which varies from person to person). I have never thrown up or Pb'd as bandsters put it. I have never slimed. I simply get full on smaller portions. I have trouble with popcorn and fruit skin and both are due to digestion problems. I can eat them but I choose not to because I get really bad stomach cramping if I do. -
Give us some more information. How many calories are you taking in? How many cc's in your band? What types of food do you eat? Are you exercising?
-
It's funny how everyone is so different. I love me some cereal and I can eat it just fine. I try to stick to low sugar varieties. I eat Rice Krispies for lunch sometimes. I measure out my portions and I use half a cup of skim milk. It doesn't keep me as full as say chicken does but it will hold me over for 3 hours or so.

Yeah, it stinks when you work with kids! Those little buggars don't always practice good hand hygiene. I was a school nurse for a year and I got sick all the time. I even had pink eye twice that year and I'm religious about washing my hands. What grade do you teach? -

Oh no!! Aaagh, have you been vomiting much? One of my coworkers had H1N1 and said it was the worst sore throat and body aches ever but no vomiting. I'm hoping I don't get it!! Everyone wash your hands and stay away from sick people. The vaccine is not out yet here and probably won't be till Mid/Late October. Thanks for looking at my blog. I love comments!! I hope you get better soon, Crzytchr! -
Me!! Way too much "cry me a river" and not enough "Ooomph".

What Kind of Vitamins do you take?
NurseMelly replied to mbranham0306's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I take the Flintstone Chewables. Mainly, because my kids take those too, so we just buy a big bottle. I would be more concerned about the vitamin I take, if I would of had a malabsorption surgery. I still eat plenty of food with a band and absorb at the same rate I did prior to surgery. I'm not really sure why all these doctors hype up the need for special vitamins. I just had my labs done and everything was WNL. -

Hey there ladies! Well today I reached a weight loss milestone of 60 pounds lost! I was happily surprised when I stepped on the scale and saw 185. I think this last fill did the trick. I'm still tracking my points but I've been so full I've only slightly dipped into my weeklies. I am so happy about that! Josie: Glad to see you back. I gained on my vacation back in August but I lost it once I got back on track. You will too! Olive: 6 pounds in 1 week is not a realistic expectation for weekly weight loss. You know that. Slow and steady wins the race and you are doing great! Bella: I hope you heal quickly! Irene and Denise: Get back to tracking. You know it works. And you both can do it!! Is anyone here blogging? I started a couple of weeks ago and there are lots of people from the boards doing it. I've found it quite cathartic. This is mine if you're interested Collapse of the Pizza Loving Empire -
If he won't fill you to where you need to be, I'd find a new doctor. I had to get to 7.3 cc before I felt any restriction. I'm now at 7.8 cc and losing quite well. Everyone is different when it comes to the band. These doctors that have this set level of cc drive me nuts. I hope you can get it worked out!
-
Hey Mary! I wanted to ask you about something completely unrelated to weight loss for once! One of my clients works at the call center for Navy Federal. She said you guys have 2 nurses that work there and they see people if they're sick at work. You know anything about that? I'm always looking for something better than where I'm at presently =p

I'm not down with BANDSTER HELL!
NurseMelly replied to givempills's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hehe I know what you're saying. I kept typing YOU and it sounded like I was yelling at you (which I would never do cause I love your posts and I tend to agree with you pretty much everytime) so I went back and edited my post. See my edit line *LOL* I took such a long time too with my fills. Too bad, we weren't one of those who gets the band and automatically loses 100 pounds without a fill. Darn it. Restriction is bliss though. I find I can't really snack anymore because if I do, I'm too full for a meal. I love that. I used to get huuuungry between meals. You're doing great, RM! -
I'm not down with BANDSTER HELL!
NurseMelly replied to givempills's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm not saying people are not hungry. I'm saying that if they think the first fill will automatically make it better, they may be in for a surprise. I didn't get restriction till 6 months post op. I dieted the first 6 months of being banded so that I continuously lost. Now if people don't want to diet, that is their choice. I wanted to be a certain weight by my 1 yr bandiversary so I couldn't wait for restriction to get me in line. Now, that I have it, it's just gotten all that much better and I'm losing at least 1 pound per week now
