    Pre-banders unite!!!

I am getting banded on Monday, Feb 27th by Dr. Spivak...and I am just excited...not nervous or worried at all. I had my gallbladder removed 13 years ago using this same sort of procedure with no complications. I have been in the operating room as a circulating nurse for 100's of more complicated surgeries as well, so I am not afraid in the least. I have complete confidence in Dr. Spivak. I am telling most people I am having my hiatel hernia repaired (which is true, he'll repair it at the same time)....only a few close friends and family know the rest of the story. Good luck to everyone!!

    Upper GI and barium enema????

OK...just so you know I have to have an Upper GI before my surgery...I am doing it on Thursday...my surgery is on Monday.....I have a history of a hiatal hernia however, so they want to see how that looks now before proceeding, he will repair it as well during my lap band surgery. Ok....I have tried xenical...and all it does is make you poop orange oily runny loose stools, it makes you gassy...and sometimes when you think you have gas....you actually poop on yourself instead of just farting....Yes..I know this sounds gross...but these are the facts you should be aware of. I didnt lose weight while taking it....but I didnt gain any weight either. Good luck!!

I Told A Big Old Lie

I am having a hernia repaired at the same time....so that is all I told my co-workers (who had to know in order to cover my clinics)...I am a nurse midwife. One of my friends had this done a few months ago, and she regrets having told so many from the comments she has received. I have only told a very few close family members and friends. Who knows...I may tell them all down the road...but for now...I dont think it is anyone's business but mine. Don't feel bad!!!

    Dr. Spivak- Houston, TX

:clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: I am very excited...I first met Dr. Spivak at a Semiar on Feb. 4th, he is a wonderful kind man. I was approved by my insurance on Feb. 14th...and have a surgery date for Feb. 27th!!!! I can't wait!! Dena
  6. I just met Dr. Spivak yesterday at one of his seminars. His staff was very friendly and extremely informative. Dr. Spivak himself was wonderful. He does not push bypass surgery at all, simply gives you all the facts on both types of surgeries. It was my impression that he prefers the lap band system. I was only given a low fat diet to follow, and nothing was mentioned about following a liquid diet pre-surgery. I was told my insurance was one of the easiest to work with, and those that qualify are not denied so I am very excited!! Now I just need to get that final approval and set my date.
