  1. the surgeon said it wasn't the movement I made that made it twist. Just something in the abdominal wall or organs that caused it to twist and that I had too much tubing in my torso for my height. He also stated out of the more than 2000 patients he has done this surgery on, I was only the third person to have this happen. I just see this as something that happened and I have to get it taken care of. I am not blaming the surgeon on this at all. It was a fluke and it happened to me. Sometimes bad things happen and you just have to decide to go on or give up. I always go on!
  2. Well, we didn't find it until my first fill. The nurse handling it was able to get the first fill in by standing me up at an angle. She saw it then and stated that if we can always get the fill in and some retracted out I would be fine if it stayed kinked. Well, I then went for my second fill and it was a no go.... We got some in, but she could not retract any back out. So they stopped at only .8cc incase I got too restricted. They would have had to do more of an emergency situation surgery. I think I know when it happened. I was driving to work on a.m. early (about 4 weeks post op) and I was getting ready to make a left hand turn (which I had done numerous times before). Anyway, I felt something kind of pull in my port area and for the next couple days that area was tender and then it went away. So I didn't think anything about it. Well the surgeon thinks that is when it twisted.
  3. I went for 2nd fill yesterday and as I previously stated I had a kink in my tubing (which was found at the first band fill). But the first fill went in once she stood me up. Well yesterday that didnt happen and now I have to have a small surgery to have the excess tubing cut down so it won't kink on me anymore. Just wondering if anyone else has had this issue before?
  4. I just checked out your slide show and wow what a difference! You look wonderful and very happy! I am just getting my journey started. I am almost 2 months post op and have lost 48 lbs! You are definately an inspiration! Keep up the great work!

    I'm Mad!!

Good Morning Jeter2, I REALLY empathize with you. I have a younger sister and it sounded like you described her to a tee! What I have done in all of my dealings with her is turned it over to the Lord. Prayed for her mental well being and asked GOD to work in her life. I have distanced myself from her and so has my other sister and brother. We just can't take all the drama in her made up world. We all have full lives with work and other activities and she is home alone, NO friends (seriously, she has fought with anyone who was ever her friend and has no one to talk to anymore). I do feel sorry for her and have talked to my brother-in-law about getting her some medical help but he just puts his head in the sand and sees nothing wrong. (But I know why he works like he does and is only home an hour at night before bed) so he doesn't have to deal with it all. So just do as I have, put it in GOD's hands, distance yourself and live your life for your husband, yourself and your children. LIfe is great once you do this!
  6. I had my first fill yesterday and while they were placing the needle in the port and she had it on the x-ray everything looked good! Then she tried putting in saline, it went in fairly well (she had some difficulty) but couldn't retract any of the saline at all. I guess that is normal procedure to see if they have to take some out they can. So the x-ray tech followed my tubing on the x-ray and my tubing is kinked (Like a garden hose can get kinked). :confused2: So she stood me up on the table and was able to complete the fill that way. She noted in my records I would have to be stood up at all times for fills. And said if it ever becomes a problem they will have to go back in and un-kink me! Sounds like fun huh.... Anyone else have this issue?????
  7. Hi mshooper, I have read your blog and I am just alittle over a month out. I am glad I made this decision. I am going to have my first fill on July 31st and I am so excited about that! I feel so bad for you and the money situation and the so called friends. I still think you should confront them, that is just not right. I am a Christian also, but I am sure you worked hard for that money. Just my input! have a great day!

    Banded and feeling great!

It has been along time since I blogged here. I think it was when I was approved which was May 12th. I had surgery on June 18th and am getting ready to have first fill on July 31st. I lost 20 lbs on pre diet and then have lost 14 since surgery. It is coming off slowly but I am glad of that, it is more apt to stay off that way. I am in lap band limbo with very little restriction right now, but use my little plastic rubbermaid containers that hold like 3/4 cup and when the food is gone I stop! Basically, it is a mind game, if you have a craving for something BAD then go have something not so bad, just a small amount. Chocolate, sugar-free pudding has been a life saver for me when that urge to eat something sweet hits me! And it only has like 60 calories! Keep up the hard work everyone!

Onederland has a new citizen!!! :)

Awesome! I am only 1 month out from surgery but I bet it feels so wonderful to be onderland! Go buy yourself something! you deserve it!!!!
  10. I am so in love with this thing and I haven't even gotten the first fill. BUT it is just a tool and you have to work at it. It isn't the miracle, magic pill or solution that I am afraid some people think it is. We were asked this question last night at our support group meeting and not one person said yes. WE all just cheered. I have lost a total of 33 lbs (including the 2 week liquid diet). But I am still loosing but slowly for now until I get some kind of restriction!

    Got banded in Springfield MO??

    Congrats Springfieldmo!
  12. Thanks for introducing yourself to me at the support group meeting tonight. It is nice to put a face with someone on this website! Congrats on just having your surgery and doing so well. When we see each other next month we will both be thinner! LOL If you need anything just ask, I might not have the answer but I bet I can find it for you! Ronda

  13. I am doing well! In that Lap band limbo stage waiting for the first fill so I can feel restriction. I lost 10 lbs since surgery and have maintained that since. I am eating regular food now with no restriction at all, so to maintain is great! I get my first fill on July 31st.

    Hello Missouri

Hi everyone, I just found your Missouri group. I have only come across one other person on here from Missouri so decided to do a search and here you all are! I live in Aldrich, MO which is 30 miles north of Springfield. I had my band surgery on June 18, 2008 by Dr. Christopher Edwards of St. John's hospital. He and his staff are awesome! I would love to make some friends for support in the area. Our support group meets at St. John's on 2nd Mondays of the month. But I am on here all the time getting tips and giving encouragement! Hope to hear from some of you! You know Missouri people are the friendliest around!:biggrin2:

    FILL Question

I had my appt today for my post op and I asked the same question. My doctor watches it on on the xray while he is doing the fill and when it gets to the point he thinks is good, has me drink something to see how it filters through. Hope that helps

Hey guys! I am from Springfield area and was banded by Christopher Edwards on June 18, 2008! I have my follow up visit today and I agree his staff are wonderful! Congrats to all the Springfield, MO group!
  17. I would have liked to stay over night really. I would have gotten a little more rest. I am at work today, first day back and it has been a little difficult but I am working through the pain! AND YES WE DID IT!

Will I ever feel NORMAL Again?

Hey, I am 5 days out and at work for a full day. I hit a brick wall an hour ago with the pain, so I got up and walked slowly and had a cold protien drink and am starting to feel some better. Yes, I can't wait until we are running around doing our daily business and can forget about the surgery and live our lives! I am excited about the future and what it holds for me. But I do agree about the gas pains and the port pain from sitting and standing. I guess I didn't realize the port pain was going to be so intense at first! Guessed wrong! LOL I can see the light at the end of the tunnel and so happy I took this route. LIfe is going to be great and fun to see unfold in front of me!

    Last Supper

Yes I did also. I had the pasta that I am going to miss, and the BBQ also. I gained back about 4 lbs because of it but I don't regret it now that I have been banded for 6 days and lost those 4 lbs plus 20 more on the liquid diet! :grouphug:
  20. So how was your surgery experience? Mine was short and sweet! In and out in 5 hours and 45 mins.! YEAH

  21. My surgery was June 18th in Springfield, MO with Dr. Christopher Edwards. I was to be at the hospital at 7 a.m. and my daughter and I were. Went to the appointed nurses station and was called back to a room only after a few minutes. My minister showed up right when they were drawing blood for a pregnancy test (I told them I hadn't been exposed in almost a year! but they had to do it anyway!) so my minister prayed with me and my daughter and then left. The hospital chaplin came by a few minutes later and he prayed also. So I had a lot of prayers being said in my benefit that morning! At 8:30 they called my room and told me to go ahead and get dressed in the smashing gown and slippers they left for me and I would be ready to go! So a cutie surgery tech came and got me, took me and my daughter to the surgery area, where the hugs are handed out... LOL and she stayed in waiting area and I went to the holding pen! Talked with surgeon, happy juice guy:thumbup:, and a couple nurses, answered all their questions. Got my IV and then the happy juice was introduced. By 9 a.m. I was in surgery, they asked if I had any last questions before they put the mask on me and I said, well really not a question but a request. I told them I expected to see a tummy tuck thrown in for free when I woke up! I got a room full of laughs on that one. Then I was gone! Woke up about hour later, surgery only took 45 mins.!!! Surgeon told my daughter my liver looked really good. I was in recovery for about an hour and then back to my room. I was still pretty groggy and they came in and got me up (I was still a little woozy at that time), I did the initial urinating for them to make them happy and changed back into my clothes and I left the hospital at 12:45 p.m. and was home by 2:30 p.m.... so it went real quick. I have felt pretty good, occasional gas pain, but mainly just soreness at port site. So all in all I had a good surgery, short and sweet!

    Who's getting banded in June

I am going to be banded tomorrow. I am so excited to get on with my life and move forward with it all. I have felt like I have been in a holding pattern for the last couple weeks! But I did loose almost 20 lbs on the liquid diet my surgeon requires so that is a great motivator! I am not sure about my surgery time, the office will call me today with the time! I am keeping busy here at work today to make the time pass quicker. I even dusted all the file cabinets! LOL The girls here are laughing at me! I will let you all know my surgery time when I know!:thumbup:
