    February 2019 weight loss buds

I hope everyone here is doing well at the various stages of pre-op and post-op. In a few weeks we will all be on the other side and compare notes about how much gas we have! 🙂 I'm going out for a big steak dinner tonight before I start liquids tomorrow. When I was having my favorite foods over the last week, I kept thinking, "This is the last time I will ever eat this." It's getting very real!

Could you tell us a bit more about drinking your water? Are you taking sips continuously throughout the day? Are you measuring the amounts?

It's great to hear you are doing so well. I hope things continue as smoothly for you!
  4. Hi, Jenforr. I'm still two weeks away from surgery, but I'm really worried about not being able to drink with food. I also wash everything down with water. I've tried not having water with dinner, but I honestly can't do it. Of course, I'm not yet chewing my food as carefully as I will need to after surgery.

Hey, Marine. How is the liquid diet going so far? I'm starting on Monday, and I'm going out for a steak dinner on Sunday before I give up solid food for quite a while!

    16 years after roux-en-y

Hi, Jo. I have no advice on your situation except that you should see your doctor. However, I was wondering what you mean by "tertiary swallows are out of sync." I'm not sure what tertiary swallows are.

    Struggling

That sounds like a good plan, because I can't imagine measuring every drink I take. I'm a little stressed about the whole water issue, because I drink a LOT of water now, and in huge gulps. It's going to be quite an adjustment.

Hi, EmzBee. I don't think it is inevitable, but complications are my greatest fear about this surgery (and why I waited three years to do it). If something went wrong, i would always think that I did this to myself voluntarily. I'm 59, and there is probably a greater chance of complications for me than for younger people. Still, knowing all that, I'm going through with it for the chance of a better life on the other side!

    Struggling

I was wondering: Do you actually measure your water intake after surgery? I was told that I can expect to drink approximately a shot glass full of water at a time, but I'm not sure how many of those I need in a day--and whether II'll actually be able to drink enough in a day in such small amounts.

Thanks so much, Mermaid--that is very reassuring! I don't "intend" to cheat during the liquid diet--but I'm not going to beat myself up if I do.

I'm February 25th too! Enjoying my last few big meals before pre op diet begins! Hi, surgery buddy! I am also enjoying all of my favorite foods and intend to continue right up until next Monday, when I start the liquid diet. Where are you located? I'm in Washington DC. I have seen quite a few people here did a pre-liquid diet. I'm a bit worried because I have probably gained weight in the last couple of weeks because I'm treating myself so often before the liquid diet starts. I suppose it will all be the same in the end. Keep us posted on your progress!
  12. Whoa, that was a pretty close call! The admin person in my surgeon's office who scheduled the surgery had me down for a sleeve as well. At my next meeting with the surgeon, she said, "So, we are doing a sleeve on you!" Fortunately, I was able to get it straightened out before we were in the operating room.

It's pretty exciting to see the February club starting to have their surgeries--and it certainly makes it seem real for those of us who are coming up soon. It sounds like everyone who has had surgery is doing well so far, which is great news. I have still not started my pre-op diet--I will next Monday (Feb. 11). Is there anyone else with a February surgery date who isn't on the liquid diet yet? Please keep the updates coming--they are very reassuring!

My BMI is 38 but my surgeon wants me to do a full two weeks of liquid diet before surgery. It may not be necessary, but it certainly can't hurt.

Gottajustdoit, have you taken any pain relievers for the headaches? I know that the options are very limited after surgery, but you should be able to take them now. Aleve works best for me.

LOL! I'm going to have the exact same thing for my "last supper!" Good luck on the liquids!

Congratulations, Idawn! Glad to hear things are going well. You are the February pioneer, but we will start to join you one by one!
  18. Well, there's something new to worry about that hadn't occurred to me before. 🙂 Did she mention how often that happens or the details of those cases? I think I will bring it up with my surgeon during me next meeting.

Well, if you are really disappointed, you could always go on an all-liquid diet, too. It's certainly not going to do any harm! 🙂

I have not heard about apple juice the night before surgery. Is anyone else doing that? Good luck, Idawn and the other Feburary 5th-ers. Please come back as soon as you feel up to it and let us know how things went!

Hi, all. I've announced my date before, but as a reminder--I will be on February 25, probably the latest in the February group. My liquid diet will start on February 11, and my surgeon said I will be in the hospital for one night. I'm excited and apprehensive--I just want it over with at this point.

2B, I have all the same fears as you. I keep thinking that this is voluntary, and if anything goes wrong I have nobody to blame but myself.

Good for you, Marine--you are a better man than I am! I have stopped caffeine several times over the last month--and I last about a day before I cave. I've got to get serious about this before my liquid diet starts on February 11.

I say yes! I'm still trying to kick my Diet Coke habit but am finding it difficult. I am down to two cans a day, which is an improvement! Does anyone plan on having a "last meal" before you go on pre-surgery liquids?
