NSV: Slimmed (not slimed) myself out of a store
DonnaB replied to NewSho's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Yay for you NewSho! How tall are you? -
Campbell's Bean with Bacon, pureed, is quite filling. Sounds gross but it's actually pretty tasty. I also like cottage cheese but you'd have to get an OK from your doctor for that. Good luck, welcome to band land.

Thanks NewSho - I'll try re-posting with that terminology.

The problem with making your own, or using a generic 'dog tag' with your engraved information, is that it doesn't have the medic alert emblem on it. If an EMT or doctor doesn't see that emblem, chances are good that they're not going to look any further to see what your 'jewelry' says. IMHO, anything other than the actual medic alert bracelet or necklace is a waste of money. Having said that, I sure wish I could find one that looked like a nice piece of jewelry instead of my personalized invitation to the old folks' home!

Carol, All you can really do is walk, walk, walk, walk, walk. If you can pass gas do it. If you can burp, do it. No matter who's within ear shot! The best thing I found for any gas pain relief was to stand next to the bed, bend from the waist and rest your forearms on the bed with your forehead resting between them. You can bend your knees a little if you need to to make it more comfortable, but try to keep your fanny as high in the air as you can. It looks crazy but it helped my gas pains and those of my band sisters who had surgery on the same day I did - we were all at the same hotel a few rooms apart. At one point I stacked every pillow in the hotel room, including the extras I had already ask for, into a pile and leaned over them to rest my forearms on the bed. It helps. Give it a try. Good luck with the gas pains and welcome to band land.

I think you should go on liquids for 3 days and then stay on liquids or mushies till the pain goes away. But what I think really doesn't matter - you should go with what you and your doctor decide together.

Sugar and spoon? Hunger isn't alleviated by spooning sugar into your mouth. You're experiencing some OTHER kind of pangs I'm afraid. Like you, I was banded in Mexico. Didn't your doctor give you a number where you can reach him or his staff for support or if you have a problem or need to ask a question? I have access to my doctor and his staff 24/7. You need to call your doctor and have a discussion about what you're experiencing with your band and with your diet. Good luck. Let us know how you're doing.

I'm an over explainer. Mostly because I don't want to have to explain AGAIN. Listen the first time and you've got it ALL. Are you over it yet? P.S. This thread belongs in the "Rants and Raves" forum.

Man - time to get some new cats! My cats won't rest if there's some critter to be had - and they're both OLD! LOL I wouldn't worry about it - that lizard doesn't want to be anywhere near you either! lol

Sounds like you irritated your stomach. Go on liquids for several days. When I say several, I mean several. I had a horrible PB incident on May 22nd, started my TOM on the 31st and had a fill on June 1st. I was sore following the PB and I'm STILL sore in the sternum area. Just too much activity in the area I guess. Even though I don't have any problems eating solid food, I'm having an unfill tomorrow at 11:00 hoping to relieve the soreness at my sternum. If that doesn't take care of it I'm going to have an endoscopy. Hopefully, if you stay on liquids for several days, your soreness will go away more quickly than mine. Good luck.

Most Excellent! Congratulations. You must feel like you're floating on air right about now, huh?

Sounds like great news Alexandra! That job is yours - now it's all about negotiating for the money! When they offer you the job, don't be so excited about the offer that you forget to negotiate for compensation!

Had Lapband surgery - feeling funny in the stomach. Did you have the same feeling?

Sounds like swelling to me. I hope your doctor meant you don't have restriction from your band yet - I had a LOT of restriction from swelling for a long time post op. Good luck. -

Um, maybe it's that too much factor? Or the too much, too fast factor? LOL !!!!! -
My eating plan is more in line with ddiedre's - I didn't catch that 4 oz thing when I read your post. I don't think you're getting enough to eat.

You've lost 7 pounds in 22 days. That equals out to .31 pounds per day - MORE than a quarter of a pound per day. Thats more than two pounds per week - 2.17 pounds per week to be exact. At 2.17 pounds per week, in 6 months you'll have lost 52.08 pounds. In 12 months you'll have lost 104.16 pounds. I'm confused. What's the problem? Am I missing something here?

Good for you JJB, Making the committment and taking that first step is half the battle. Stay committed for one day and a time - even one meal at a time if necessary. Food addiction is like any other addiction, one slip and it has you by the throat again. Unfortunately with a food addiction you can't go cold turkey! What is your plan of action? Are you food journaling? Do you have your meal and snack plan in place for tomorrow? Do you have everything you need to stick to your plan? OK. Here you go. You're on your way so stay strong.

ANITA!!!!!!!!! I'm so happy for you! Congratulations - what's your surgery date? Who's doing it? How is your daughter taking the news? I can't tell you how happy I am for you. Wait, yes I can: YAY FOR YOU ANITA!!!!!! CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!!! -
Hey Cloe, I think you might give your doctor a call. They'll probably just tell you to go back to liquids for a few days, which you're already doing, but I think it's a good idea to have this kind of thing go into your medical chart for future reference. Sorry you're having a hard time of it right now. It will get better.

I like Body Fortress Vanilla Flavor - I buy it in Wal-Mart but I can't remember the price, it's very reasonable I know that. I don't like it by itself, but it tastes REALLY good if you mix 2 scoops (40g protein) into a cup and a half of ff milk along with 3 tablespoons of sf ff chocolate pudding and 1 tablespoon of reduced fat peanut butter. It tastes like you're drinking a Reese's Peanut Butter Cup! Mmmmmmmmmmm. While I was on my liquid diet I alternated between that and Isopure because the the yummy protein mix is a little high in calories. The blue carb free Isopure tastes the best of the lot IMO, but none of them are that good. Do be careful about which of the red ones you choose and a couple of them are not carb free. Congrats on your surgery date and good luck with the liquid diet.

Hi Tired, Glad to hear everything was normal except for gastritis - what does your doctor have you doing to clear that up? I'm curious because my doctor thinks I may have some mild gastritis going on. I think you may have hit on something there - the fact that your face swelled up leads me to wonder if you didn't have swelling elsewhere, like your stomach, that led to this cycle of eat-PB-swell-eat-PB-swell thats going on. I'm very much interested to know about the test results and the possible antibiotic treatment. Glad you're on your way to health and comfort, please keep us posted on your progress. BTW, there are so few men here on LBT you're practically guaranteed of your own harem in no time! lol Don't worry Jack, your harem is quite loyal!

Advice for Vacation Travel outside the Country?
DonnaB replied to DAA's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
It looks beautiful Penni - I think I have to go do some price-checking for October flights now! I wonder what the weather in Jamaica is like in October? -
I agree, it's time to make the call. My earlier post is influenced by my experience with local Child Protective Services with regard to my sister's adoptive children and with my situation with the grandchildren of my friends. There have been multiple mistakes made by CPS and I distrust their frequent knee-jerk reactions after witnessing their past bad decisions. The welfare of this friends children definitely need to come first. I just wish I could believe that CPS IS what's best for them. Poor innocents. Even if they are behaving badly, they're children who are doing what children do - they test and push the envelope to find out what the limits are. They don't deserve to be beaten for being normal children. It sickens me to know that this little girl now "understands" that a man can love you but still beat you - beat you and still love you. It's horrible to know that once exposed to that situation, a child can never go back to feeling safe and secure ever again. This incident will color this girls' understanding of relationships with men for the rest of her life.
