    Am I the Only One?

    How my understanding is that you can still eat but you shouldn't feel like you need to eat! An example is that if you have a plate of pizza, and you don't use the eating techniques (like smaller bites, breaking between bites for a minute, chewing swallowing, not drinking before or after the meals 20-30 mins) and you finish the slice, or 2 slices and you may feel like you can keep eating but you do need to listen to your body and ask if full?! If that is the case above where you are talking all the steps needed, talk to your doctor about this with the fill. I am 7 weeks after LB and i find if i don't take time between bites, and listen to my self if i am full i can keep eating to the point it is past the full stage (like tonight out with friends and had a few bites too many from being distracted - something for me to be aware of)

    Ahhh today is day 21 of my stall and I know using NSV I’m seeing changes but I feel last 2 weeks weeks from the 3 weeks haven’t been of any change (and even started gym too!!!) just sooooooo annoying grrrrrrrr haha but we can do this 🥊🥊🥊 Knock it out of the park

    it is recommended with the band that you don't touch anything carbonated (such as fizzy drinks) due to the gas in the drinks makes things worse. due to the holding bay / smaller section at the top the fizzy drinks can upset that part before getting to the stomach the best way to help with the bloating will be the walking and the passing of the gas - i took laxatives for that as i was also days from having passed anything and that was the frustrating thing for me

    So i recently under went WLS where i only told a hand full of people who have been friends for a while, and in the same friendship group. (plus my parents) I have a feeling that one of them is getting jealous of what's happening with changes. She saying that I'm looking great now and that i should stop (4 weeks out and 13kg lost not even close to GW (where the doctors want me is still 5kg more than where i want to be)) and I am beyond worried that she will tell someone as she said tonight on snapchat 'oh i don't know why you're keeping it hidden it is bound to come out' to which i asked how would it come out and there was no reply. She has mentioned before about how this is a short cut or that i have an advantage to being able to lose weight etc but at the same time i know that she is one to try the diets for a short period of time then stop - we were very alike with that sort of things and love for food but i was also more active than her and especially leading up to the banding. just also a few things here and there What would be the best way to deal with this - if there is any way i can deal with this If anyone has experienced this? also with people finding out how that was?? Greatly appreciated.

    That was me! i felt like it was not worth it when i was in hospital i was there for 5 nights as my breathing with the band was not normal for me! (someone who takes full deep breaths was struggling to take more than a short one) but it got better over the weeks!! The stomach will have so much swelling but making sure you move (like with the walking, breathing, talking) will help quicker with recovery! and every day will get so much better!!

    Hey Kat welcome to the losers bench!!! I am at 6 weeks now from my LapBand so i am only a few steps in front of you! I am based in Australia (if that helps) and I am more than happy for you to reach out if you have any questions concerns or just want to vent as this is all a fresh learning experience for me! it took me 2 weeks to be able to lie on my left side (side of port) and maybe another week after that to lie on the front. It sort of just happened where i woke up and it wasn't causing any discomfort or pain! What i can advise being so early on is walk walk walk keep moving if you can drink little and often, i promise you it gets better BUT it is a shock to the body from having had unrestricted drinks to then the shakes still unrestricted to now feeling like a shot worth is too much! so have chocolate milk, juices, flavoured waters etc anything to keep hydrated! it is normal to have gas pains if you are one who feels it!! heat / massaging the area helped me I promise you it all gets better!! TAKE A LAXATIVE AS SOON AS YOU CAN!!! the quicker you get something out the better you will feel stomach wise! and once it starts regulating it will be smooth sailing from there Things that i found that were great for liquids was getting take away from vietnamese / chinese restaurants and keeping their stock for a few days! full of flavour and nutrients as always used with veg / meat broths! don't get too caught up with the calories that you are having for the first few weeks with the liquids and puree stage as mentally you do need to have selection of things you can eat! but portion control will be the underlining issue for the life style change Please don't hesitate to ask for anything else!!!

    I never thought of it as a cheat myself (or short cut) but when it was due to my hormones being out of control and PCOS just not helping me out this is what was needing to get myself regulated till i am having to have everything removed. I don't think she will come to that realisation but you are so right it was for me and i have to embrace it!

    BAHAH YAS BYE FELICIA!! and good on you don't you ever think you took it from someone younger there are many more days in a year they can book themselves in! I am at the stage where she is telling me that i am looking great now and don't need to lose any more (when i still cannot fit into clothes / boots yet which i want to be) so will still be working on myself for myself it is slowly getting like that with the distance and digs hurting me so just trying to keep everything non food related (even tho she is telling me all about her natural diet she is doing on her own and working wonders) to which i am always giving support and motivation (and maybe reminding her when she's eating pizza about her amazing diet)

Hey everyone *not complaining for once - everything feels so good with the band and just started my first stall but not the issue today* I had a fall where I landed on my side and I am wanting to know if this would be of any risk to the band slipping / port flipping etc at 5 weeks or would it be sturdy in place? I feel fine (was hungry after recovering lol) but when I read where ports flip etc idk the cause. Office is closed and will be calling Monday but if anyone has any advice greatly appreciated

    Had a fall at 5 weeks

    Just woke up slightly sore on the hip where the landing (good bruise) was and shoulder where the second landing was (falling up then down stairs) but re band port stomach etc I feel fine no pain or any discomfort. Not sure if there would be pain there if something went wrong. Monday definitely calling up to discuss but was panicked yesterday given 5 weeks out

    Dear Week 3 Stall

    I’m at a stall at week 4 where I put on weight to now week 5 where I’m the same weight as starting week 4!! Super annoying too with the Aus summer and fluids going up!!! So I TOTALLY know your pain where you want the progress to show on the scales but it does move (least what everyone says I’m just waiting and waiting) and waiting 😂 fingers crossed it clears up and you’re on the path again!!

    Hunger Pains

    Are you sure they are hunger pains or pains from not eating when you used to eat? I know there are times after I’ve eaten where my Tum says I’m hungry but my brain says these pains are not hunger related - try drinking water and keeping up more fluids - if not working talk to your doctor / call the office and discuss your concerns

    Hi One food i am missing so much are smoked salmon sandwiches (not sure why but something about Salmon and avo - and can't do sushi to my understanding ever) Now i am not at all ready to be trying bread etc but wondering if wraps are something people are able to digest? Looking at tortillas or mountain bread or sandwich things I am in Australia so please if you do know of any ideas let me know if in Aus or not (so i can find substitutes)

    Third week in

    Hi guys Newly into WLS this site has been of great help! ( I don't have any Lab Band / WLS friends to turn too) I have just moved onto pureed foods (and yet to have a fill) *Given the time of year I have reached out to my Dietitian a few days ago however have not had a reply so I am hoping for some advice. I am finding i am able to only eat between 5-10 teaspoons of food per day. Is this a normal amount being 3 weeks out? I am not interested in eating most the time but have been advised i should be putting something in? is this the case? Fluids are not filling me up (had Pho stock day before yesterday thinking it would be enough but it wasn't doing a thing) Also pains below the band (more like above the left hip below the port, what feels like digestion occurs an hour or so after eating / drinking if i lie down straight away. is this normal too? It doesn't feel like a blockage as i time my bites, and so so so conscious about how often I'm drinking (previous skull drinker so SUPER HARD not to do that!!!) Final question!!! How often does one find they are able to drink?? I am drinking one mouthful per minute but soooo hard not to drink quicker Sorry for the questions i was not able to find these answers in past things asked. TIA

    Third week in

    I am feeling so good now nearly a week out from the first fill - i find myself still drinking more than what i thought i could and eating is the same (but same time i have 1/4 of a fillet of salmon rather than a whole one!!) so i am eating less but when hungry i am eating! (and eating more proper foods too) I have learnt that water is so boring! I WAS like you with the gulping of iced water just being able to skull and now I am sipping but I can sip every 30 seconds or so?

    Friends took me out to a market that was actually a food market! NSV is that i didn't spend any money!!! i was able to pick off their plates haha and had some of their gnocchi and arancini which kept down so easily! Didn't want to try too much etc so made sure my fluids were kept up So maybe rice will be ok after all but still bread bread bread so many burger and bread options tonight!! specially only as tomorrow is 4 weeks so fingers crossed

    AHHHH CRYING!!! not really!! Keen to try the alternatives and hopefully wraps / rye / multigrain works later down the track but the ideas to try till then!! cannot wait to be on full diet in the next few weeks!

    that is so good to know!!! It's been said because with the band - and with the small pouch and the 'gluggy' feel struggles to go down. I tried pasta last week and it didn't sit well in the stomach with cramps and was told to try it again in a few months time once the band has healed more and my body is more used to the changes (coming into 4 weeks post op) Cucumber wraps look so good! gotta buy a tool for that! Was told after 12-18 months 'can eat anything with caution but be prepared your body may not tolerate' and that rices and breads are things to be prepared not to substitute to not have the way i would once have. but please rant these 4 weeks have been the most frustrating times being into xmas new years etc - no regrets at all but I'm definitely realising how much of my socialising was around food (the amount of times since it's been coffee and walks oml) haha

    Thank you i'm having a read of it now! Is Nori sheets ok for you to digest?! I was told Sushi wasn't a thing but i assumed it was both rice and seaweed?? if that's the case i can defs use this with excitement! What's coconut wrap paper? not showing up at my supermarket search

    What was it like when you were banded eating the breads? did you eat all types etc?? And you are totally right!! there were times where i would have a toasted sandwich for breakfast then a sandwich for lunch and with out realising that was 4 slices of bread. I think realistically i would like to have it as a wrap - more fillings less carbs (and not a fan of burgers but good idea to have it as an open!) do you use flower tortillas or corn???

    YES THE PAIN OF WANTING IT ESP BECAUSE YOU CAN'T there are links below for the states for alternatives but to have a wrap or a sandwich with friends would be just ideal (goodbye to salmon bagels I've come to terms of that hahaha)

    Because of the rice and seaweed (unless thats a myth) - do you tolerate all breads fine?? I've had salmon and tuna to a tartare when i was on my pure/soft food stage and already with the smoked salmon with the egg

    First Fill

    Note: just over 24 hours later feeling better with the fill today and spoke to a nurse at the clinic who has said to come in if still wondering if the fill amount is a concern. But that being the first fill it will feel tighter but if I'm not having trouble drinking / eating liquids (which today hasn't been the case) then that it's the right path to move forward with the diet stages.

    First Fill

    Hi Hi I had my first follow up from my operation (14th Dec) to where there was a few things that got to me and not sure if these thoughts are normal I had a fill - 2ml today (so I have a total of 3ml in me now )- the doctor told me that he didn't want to put a fill in as "the results are better long term with less fill" but wondered why he didn't put 1ml in to then try? (yet he is the pro i wasn't going to question) Is there anything I should be careful with the first fill (or fills ongoing?) I am on liquids for the next 2 days but it is feeling different when I'm drinking (not restricted but more of a heartburn type not sure if that will settle or because i haven't eaten today as the fill was at 10am and it has been 3.5 hours.) He said that i was losing weight too quickly (is that a thing) and was at 92% of my loss (13.5kg - 30lbs?) and when he said 92% i was thinking - do doctors let you reach the discussed weight (my case being 63-65kg) and adjust to be lower if the results aren't what they seem (or wont let me get lower)? I am worried that the weight from my legs wont be the results that i was wanting at that weight - given heaps of my weight has come from my boobs, waist, face and shoulders etc judging how my things fit me my legs haven't changed. Do doctors review this once the weight is reached if there are other aspects for taking it lower (Normal range is 50kg-65kg) Sorry for the rant / confusing state / questions!! Anyone else felt like this???

    Third week in

    i am feeling so much better! had my first fill (which i posted yesterday as i found some discomfort but today is so much better, and worst case to get the fill out friday as it was feeling restrictive yesterday) but got Yogurt which is easy morning on the go! My Doctor has me on liquids for 2 days after the fill, then to soft foods again for a few more days then to start the transitioning to normal food diet next week which i am so so so excited for!!! I haven't tried pasta again but i did purchase some pulse pasta so i hope that will be better in the next few weeks but craving some proper protein (blending it or having just fish was not the same) It is hard because i don't know anyone who has had this recently (a friend of mine had it and cheated the band and moved to the sleeve, and i met someone in hospital who had the sleeve) so when it comes to these new things it is so hard to turn to places to ask!
