  1. I have a question about whether it is absolutely necessary to recover at home:confused2: I'm scheduled for surgery in 6 weeks and would like to recover after the 1st couple of days at my camper (fully contained) about 2 hours from home (it's so peaceful there). I would have a friend with me to help with lifting, etc. Has anyone done this? I have read many entries from people who have gone shopping, and walking, etc. the next day without any apparent problems. I have never had any problems with recovery from surgery before. Any thoughts would be helpful.
  2. What do you eat to get enough protein with such a limited amount of food? :confused2: I've not yet been banded and don't know what to plan on eating afterward. I've never particularly liked beans (it's a texture thing) or cottage cheese, and protein drinks are pretty expensive. I ate so much tuna fish on weight watchers, over the years, that I find it hard to eat. Help me figure it out. Thanks
  3. Where do you get some of these different protein drinks I've seen discussed on the forum. I've not heard of most of them. Of course, they have not been my preferred meal choice but I hope they will be soon. I live in a small town in Wisconsin, and have to travel about 25 miles to any town of any size. Thanks for all of your help.
  4. Hi everyone, I'm scheduled to be banded on September 30  and have been following the threads on this forum for several months now. The other day when I was eating raspberries it occurred to me that I've not seen anything on here about eating fruits like strawberries and raspberries with the small seeds. Can anyone do this or do I have to avoid my favorite fruits forever? :smile2: How about nuts? Thanks for all your input, I've learned so much.

    Body Odor

Not knowing if the odor is coming from the wound or not, I do know that years ago my husband had body odor so strong it was impossible to cuddle. He could take a shower and towel off and smell strong again. We read somewhere that he should take 10 - 30 mg of zinc per day as a dietary supplement and amazingly it took the odor away. He took it for several years and the odor went away. One of our sons, upon reaching the teen years developed the same problem and taking zinc cured him also. Hope this is of some help. Simon
  6. I'm so excited, i've just recently purchased Richard Simmons Sweatin the the Oldies DVD. Does anyone else use this tape? I love Richard's bubbly enthusiasm and energy. I know I'm aging myself when I say I worked out to his TV show way back when but I'm looking forward to working out with him again. I'm sooooo out of shape that I think that this may be the way for me to get started again. I've got to wait 3-1/2 months yet to get banded and need something to keep my excitement up. I've never been able to keep up with the traditional exercise tapes, no rhythm. Band date coming up, September 30 in Wisconsin. I'm not sure whether to be excited of scared or what! :rolleyes2:

Richard Simmons Sweatin to the Oldies

I'm afraid I don't have any suggestions as yet. I've not had my surgery yet, I'm scheduled for September 30. Wish it was sooner but I could not get off work until then. It sounds like you are doing grrrreat, keep up the good work.
  8. I came across Leslie on line one night and used the trial walks directly from my computer for several weeks before I got lazy and stopped. I just recently purchased the 1,2 & 3 mile walks. I've been inactive for so long that even doing the 1 mile walk is like I've run a marathon. I've got a way to go before I can even consider doing more than that. I work for a hospital and have access to the cardio rehab lab for free so am trying to get in the habit of using the machines there. I used to walk outside for exercise on my lunch hours and really enjoyed it until I hurt my foot. I really missed it and packed on 40 lbs I had taken off, so that now it just plain hurts to walk. I'm trying to get motivated to move my body so that when September 30 rolls around and I get banded that I will have a head start on the exercise part of the life style change. Just purchased a new DVD player for the basement rec room so that I can exercise in private. Wish me luck!

    I cant wait

I'm glad to find I'm not the only one with the problem. I have my surgery scheduled for the end of September and it seems that ever since I decided to have it done I can't seem to stop eating all the "goodies" that I know will be banned afterward. I'm afraid that I'm going to gain another 20 lbs before the surgery. Anyone have any ideals how to rein in the bad eating? I keep saying no more and then next thing I know I'm at it again. My doctor did say he would like me to lose 10 lbs before I see him again in September for my pre op meeting. Simon
  10. Hi - I am new to this site. I've just made the decision to have the lap band done. I've done the introductory and meet with the surgeon in about 10 days. I'm excited and aprehensive. I've tried every diet known to womankind and nothing has lasted. My fear is this is just another one. I know several people that have had the surgery, some successfully, some not so. They all seem to be happy they've done it. The part I am having the hardest time wrapping my mind around is the idea of only eating 1/2 cup of food at a meal. That's about 3-4 bites. I've always loved to cook and eat and this will be such an uncomprehensible change. Fortunately I have incredible support at home from my husband. :thumbup:My son is also considering the band but wants to see me do it 1st. Any words of advice?
