Question of lower BMI patients
TXlowbmi replied to bthompson82's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am 5’3 I was at 170 day of my surgery. About 15 months out and I stay around 114. 5 weeks out I was at 146. -
I want to put my experience out there as I had a hard time finding any recent conversations about low BMI sleevers. I hope that my thread can help people like myself that was looking for information pre and post op. I was self paid with surgery in early November. I am 5’3. I started with a BMI of 32. I had high cholesterol, sleep apnea, and joint pain. 1st doc visit weight- 182 SW- 170 measurements: under bust 36, waist 38, thigh 23, arm 12 Week 1- 157 Measurements: ub 33, w 36, t 22, a 11 Week 2- 155 Measurements: ub 32.5, w 36, t 22, a 11 Week 3- 150 Measurements: ub 32, w 35, t 20, a 11 Week 4- 149 Measurements ub 33, w 34, t 19, a 11 Week 5- 146 Measurements ub 32.5, w 34, t 19, a 10 After surgery I overall feel pretty good. My joints don’t hurt as much as they did before and I sleep better. I do have a hard time getting my recommended water intake as well as my protein. That is a work in progress. I do not work out yet, as I don’t feel completely healed nor have I been released to. I go back to the doc in early January.

I was there most of the day. Had to be there I think 2 hrs before surgery then the last surgery went longer than expected. My doc did surgery’s by weight. Heaviest first. I was slow to come out of anesthesia and then had to recover, Walk and pee before I could leave. The pain medicine had to wear off before I could leave also. Then I had to take what the doc prescribed me. Which I can’t remember. I did for sure take it like clockwork the first night and next day. I had to have someone drive me for my morning doc appointment the day after surgery. By 48 hrs after surgery I was feeling pretty good! Sore but good. I could only stomach the chewable vitamins for so long. It was like eating chalk. I ordered the patches from Bariatric pal. Used those for 1-2 months and then I ordered their multi vitamin. Only one pill so I love that. Good size with no issue swallowing it and didn’t upset my stomach. I use nature’s made for calcium. My 3 month blood work came back good. I know some people say the patch vitamins aren’t good. My doc said they haven’t seen any issues with them and a lot of his patients use them. My hair has thinned. No bald patches yet and hopefully non to come. I did struggle to get my protein in. My doc said that people who didn’t hit their protein goals seemed to have a harder time with hair loss. But I also lost a lot of hair after each of my babies. So I think for me it is hormonal as well. I have no regrets. My pre surgery medical issues are gone. I feel fantastic. I had a great experience. Would do it again in a heartbeat.

Yes I did. I would recommend some chewable gas x pills and remember to get up and walk at least every hour or more. I also got a belly binder. It really helps! I swear by them. Used it after giving birth to all 5 of my kids. It helps you feel not as sore. You don’t need an expensive one for after the surgery. Something cheap off amazon.

Hi Friday You are close to what I was. I have had great success. Should hit 115 at the 6 month mark. Then I will move to maintenance and work on toning up.

I was very similar to Lolo. 50 lbs in 4 months. I have not started to work out. Just walking so far. I wouldn’t say I have loose skin as it doesn’t hang down while I am standing up but it does hang while in a plank position. Mainly boobs and stomach. Doc assured me that it will tighten up to a point over the next year.

Hello I was on the lower BMI end. I have dropped 50 lbs in 4 months. I have about 10-12 lbs more to meet my doctors goal. I think I will have to be more strict on my eating habits to get there. I have been pretty steady on lack of weight loss the last 3 weeks. I have also been sick and on steroids so that could play a roll. The surgery was a blessing for me. I feel amazing. My body doesn’t hurt like it did when carrying the extra weight.

My friend used the patch vitamins during her pre op diet and until she was eating more at 2-3 months. She couldn’t stomach the pill/chewable vitamins will that little in her stomach.
