    Regret Doing This

    Ive had absolutely no problems
  2. I’ve determined that I absolutely cannot eat Ramen. (Ate it once before, made me feel sick) I have been laying here for over an hour with my mouth periodically watering because I feel like I’m gonna throw up. If I didn’t have a phobia over vomit I am sure that I definitely would have. I feel like I’m dying!! I have no problem eating any kind of pasta or other kinds of noodles but there’s just something about Ramen I can’t digest. Anyway this is definitely the closest I’ve come to puking since my surgery. What do you do for dumping?? I tried papaya enzymes, laying down, tums…. Nothing helps. Just wait it out? I feel like I never want to eat again!

    Maintenance?? Is it really possible?

Im coming up on 2 years and have never gained any weight. I admit I havent done a lot of what some people do in terms of tracking, never eating pasta, rice etc. I do eat pretty much what I want but I dont like junk food or fried foods and I can only eat very small amounts of sugar. I feel like I havent gained because I never really considered this a diet, never radically altered the way I did things and just kinda try to stay healthy. I feel like some people get the surgery and go crazy eating the perfect protein diet, gallons of water and tracking every calorie. To me, that just wasnt sustainable. Im in this for the long haul. I guess I'm doing ok. 2 years ago I was a size 18 jeans and now I'm a size 8.

    Share your post-op experience

I can only speak for myself and my experience. Recovery was not bad. I was extremely tired for about 4 months so I agree with the previous post that rest is essential. I remember binge watching Call the Midwife and a lot of shows I had on my list because I had NO energy. Just plan to have a lot of down time and take it easy. I read so much information that scared the crap out of me and none of it came true. 1. I never dumped or had food get stuck. Never puked (to this day) 2. I never got dehydrated. Water was not that hard to drink when I added limes or water additives. Hint water also went down very smoothly and I ordered several cases 3. I did go through a period of depression and most people do. You wonder what you did, how long will life be strange etc. Im about 1.5 years out and life seems really normal to me now. The only time I feel "altered" is when I eat at a BBQ or family event and I cant just have a hamburger and some sides. Its just the patty, cant really finish it and I cant have a bunch of beans and potato salad but other than that eating is pretty much the new normal 4. My hair did fall out more than usual but I never had major hair loss and it slowed down a little more than a year out To sum up...dont be scared!! They tell you all the terrible things that could happen because they kinda have to but dont expect those things to happen. Keep a positive outlook and you'll do fine
  5. I did They said everything looked "normal". From my own research I believe the problem is Leptin. They dont know why some people have too much or too little but having surgery most certainly didn't "remove the hunger hormones" as is sometimes reported. I was absolutely starving the first few days right after surgery and remained starving the entire 10 day liquid diet post op. Most people say after a 2-3 days on a liquid diet you lose your hunger but for me it was torture. I'd give anything not to be plagued by constant hunger
  6. Same here but my problem is that I'm hungry all the time. I think a lot of us have been snacking more since we're stuck at home but I'm legit hungry all day long. I have no idea what to do about it. I havent gained more than 1-2 pounds yet but I feel it on the horizon. Pants are getting tighter

    Hate bypass

I don't dump at all. I can eat cookies, cake, whatever. I feel sick to my stomach if I overdo it but I dont get dumping syndrome. (RNY)

    Hate bypass

What bad information>? This RNY was my first surgery and I have the same problem. Im hungry ALL the time.
  9. I have found it to be really uncommon. I have had no change in my appetite either and Im pretty much hungry all the time and have been since day one. Its pretty annoying but I guess it's better than everything making me sick. Everyone is just so different. You really cant predict the outcome as it's drastically different depending on a huge variety of factors.

    Hate bypass

I have no idea how I've lost 90 pounds because Im hungry all the the time and I have been since day 1. I had them check my pouch and i did that swallow test where I had to eat/drink this semi solid jello like substance and I watched it slide right down into my intestines. So how am I losing weight? I have no idea but for me it's been VERY slow!!
  11. I wish I would have known that having gastric bypass really wasn't going to be anything like I thought it would be. My journey has been very different than the youtube videos I binged watched and it's been significantly easier than I thought. Easy is probably not the right word, but problem free. Basically I can eat anything, nothing makes me sick except maybe eggs and sometimes anything with too much oil like salmon. I have only experienced dumping in terms of a rapid heartbeat with upset stomach but NOTHING like I read about. I am almost 1.5 years out and have never thrown up, not once. I can eat steak, rice, pasta, bread, no problem. I just dont have any of the scary problems I read about. So if I would have known I would have done it 10 years ago!! I had severe acid reflux before the surgery and NONE after. So yes it's been the best thing I ever did for myself. As far as skin, sure you'll have saggy skin but it sure as hell beats being 100 pounds overweight.
  12. I have 10 pounds to go but now instead of losing I'm watching my weight stall and slowly creep up even. I don't feel that it's safe to go to the gym as my gym is crowded. I'm staying home, working from home and not doing my usual running around. I am much more sedentary now. There is much less access to fresh foods, store shelves are empty and we had to stock up on pasta, rice and canned food as a backup. Not to mention I seem to be eating my feelings more and more. Im really scared that my weight will continue to creep up! I know what everyone will say, do yoga on YouTube and stop stress eating. OK, easier said than done! This is a really scary time and I'm already so prone to anxiety but it's just been out of control. Being isolated is depressing and when you get depressed it's really hard to be disciplined and make a lot of effort. Is anyone in the same boat?

Im scared of gaining weight through this crisis

Thank you for actually understanding my post

Im scared of gaining weight through this crisis

Really?? I'm in California and I'm on lockdown. I am stuck in my house the majority of the day. I have a diagnosed anxiety disorder. But somehow you think weight gain is a trivial issue? You dont see a connection between gaining weight and depression? You dont see how going backwards after I've worked SO HARD could cause depression? OK. This is not a vanity issue. I want to be HEALTHY! If you cant understand that then I'm sorry.
  15. I'm a year out and definitely way beyond 700 calories a day. I need to get my head straight as lately Ive been in maintenance mode, eating things I shouldnt and have been at the same weight for many months. I never did lose hunger in any way. I wouldnt worry about the metabolism thing. Your body adjusts.
  16. I try to limit my carb intake but thats my weakness so if I'm super tired, like today, I eat too many carbs. I feel a lot better when I eat high protein and low carb but I refuse to "diet". I am doing this for life so I just try to make good choices. I dont stress about having toast in the morning, but days like today I mindlessly snacked on Cheese Its and I feel like crap for it. I feel better after going to the gym but I need to make different choices when my body is craving an energy burst. My nutritionist told me that eating things like rice if it's a small portion is absolutely fine and doesnt want her patients to have an unhealthy relationship to carbs.
  17. You've created those grooves in your brain that say "I need food for comfort" but once you remove the ability to binge your brain will create new neuropathways. It has to. You will adjust over time but just think of it this way. Every time you say no or don't turn to food for comfort or boredom or whatever you're training your subconscious to stop asking for it. I used to DREAM about food right after surgery but now I'm used to using food for fuel rather than to fill a void. Sure I mess up and I have eaten things I shouldn't but I dont stress about it anymore because it's not the norm. Trust me...over time you'll adjust!

    No goal weight?

I originally had a goal weight of 150. I'm 5'8. As I'm nearing my goal I realized 160 would be a little more realistic. The doctor told me that being a year out Im probably not likely to lose a lot more unless Im willing to diet or do something drastic like serious weight lifting. At this point Im a size 10 or 12 in pants and a large in tops and I look OK. I want to lose another 10 pounds because I still have some belly fat but really I'd be OK if I stayed at this weight. It would be nice to lose a little more and I will give it a shot but I sure look better than i did at almost 260!!
  19. I'm not quite a year out but I'm worried about how much I can eat now. I sort of 'accidentally" ate an entire pb&j sandwich, although I did feel overly full afterwards. I am wondering how much you can eat at one time around the ONE YEAR mark. Could you eat a taco bell burrito Supreme? Could you eat a hamburger with the bun? with one bun? with no bun? Could you eat 1 or 2 pieces of buttered toast? could you eat an egg McMuffin? I did just have an upper GI and they said nothing is stretched out and everything looks normal but I hear so much about regain and people struggling and I am worried about how much more Im going to be able to eat going forward. How much more should I expect to be able to eat as time goes on??
  20. Wow...judgemental much?? This is NOT my normal diet. I'm asking general portion questions that everyone can relate to because if I ask about a bowl of soup or a slice of pizza it varies but an Egg McMuffin is exactly the same size for everyone

    I'm so upset, I'm a slow loser

Yeahhhh...I am approaching my 1 year mark and Im still at like 85 pounds lost. If you would have told me that I couldnt lose the 100 pounds I set out to lose in a YEAR I would have had a freakin heart attack. In fact when I had my consultation I asked how long it might take me to reach goal and they said "it takes some people 6 months, some people a year" and I said "A year??" and here I am a year later and NOT AT GOAL. I even revised my goal to 160 instead of 150 because I dont want to get too down. Im honestly just sick of this. I'm a size 10-12. Sometimes I think F--- it. Thats it. I'm done. But then I saw pics of myself at Christmas and I still feel like I have too much fat in my face and I want to lose my extra belly fat. Im so tired of the struggle. I'm tired of seeing other people lose so freakin fast. Im tired of people yelling at me for not being thrilled to lose 80 pounds. Thats LESS THAN 10 POUNDS A MONTH. ugh!! This surgery is not all it's cracked up to be. Its definitely not easy. By the way I do not eat junk food, dont eat deserts, i go to the gym, I eat protein. My body is ajust horrible and doesnt want to let go of fat. Thank you terrible genes.
  22. Im almost at a year. I've been struggling all along so nothing has changed really. Im getting an upper GI in a few days to see if anything if physically wrong
  23. I had the bypass in January and right from day 1 I was STARVING. Im still hungry all the time. Its a nightmare. I struggle every single day to not eat too much because Im hungry every 2 hours like clockwork and it isnt head hunger

    Stall at eight months?

I literally just feel like I'm done. I have made practically no progress for the last 3 months. I feel like this is it for me sometimes. Its so depressing

When can I have some rice? Lol

Ive been able to eat rice, bread and pasta almost as soon as I was given the green light on regular food. I have also only lost 80 pounds in 10 months. I wish now that my team had been more restrictive and banned these things as I might have had a different result. I do feel like a failure seeing other people lose tons of weight much faster than I have. I dont pig out on this stuff but I also have never had the blessing of reduced hunger so I'm hungry every 2 hours. Its just infuriating honestly. I would like to have reached my goal by now. It really sucks that i havent
