    How many carbs?

I dont do protein shakes. They're gross. I add Genepro unflavored protein powder to my drinks

    slow loss?

I am almost 6 months out and Ive lost 50 pounds. I have read a lot of stories of people who just dropped weight like crazy and it made me so depressed so I left all of those groups (Facebook) and focused on my own journey and started working out at the gym. Now my weight is finally moving again and I now have 60 pounds to go. I have no idea if I'll make it but Im certainly trying. The upside to slow loss....I have lost no hair, I feel fine and I am trying to tighten my skin and build muscle so I wont look like a deflated balloon

    Understanding the stall

If you dont eat enough calories your body thinks it's starving and will hold on to fat for energy stores. I stalled for MONTHS and the only thing that got the scale moving was going to the gym and lifting weights. I also upped my calories because Im hungrier after a work out. My surgeon warned me ahead of time that I am one of those very hearty people with survival genes and my body is built to survive and wants to hang on to my fat. Somehow he knew I'd need to do weight lifting and voila! Like magic the scale is going down. I was walking an hour a day and still not moving but the act of building muscle has been a game changer. I go when I'm tired or hot and it paying off. If you can go work out I cant recommend it enough

    The dreaded gas

I didn’t have any gas pain. Not right after or months after like a lot of people. I’m less gassy now that before the surgery

    I hate my neck

My neck looks TERRIBLE. I hate it so much. It’s all deflated and you can see the tendons so I look like I’m 90. I’m getting a neck lift as soon as I hit goal weight

    Anyone else scared?

Obviously everyone is scared before surgery but you have it done and then you realize it's really not that big of a deal. I've had no complications, no vomit or foamies, no food stuck. No regrets. No hair loss. No gas. No dehydration. None of the scary things people talk about.

Bariatric surgery was a big mistake

Wow. OK. Well. I had the bypass 5 months ago and I am not struggling. I dont look like an idiot. I eat with my family. I take my vitamins and drink my water and I dont carry a bottle everywhere. I just drink it at home. Fill 2 32 oz bottles a day and make sure theyre gone. I had a cheeseburger and macaroni salad yesterday, yes they were very small portions but who cares? You dont need to eat a big plate full of food to enjoy it. My life is almost the same as it was before my gastric bypass surgery except now I'm nearly 50 pounds lighter. This was definitely not a mistake for me.

  11. Would you rather be able to tolerate EVERYTHING, like almost feel normal. No nausea, no dumping, no food stuck, no intolerance if it meant losing more slowly and having to be more vigilant or would you rather have things make you sick, feel a lot of restriction, no appetite but lose very fast and not have to make an effort to "diet"? I'm asking because I almost feel like I didnt have the bypass. I feel so normal! I really have to constantly try not to overeat or eat the wrong foods because nothing makes me sick. I am so envious of people who say they have to set an alarm to eat or people who lost 100 pounds in the first 4 months. I feel cheated that my bypass has been so underwhelming. OK Yes I have lost weight and for that I am grateful but mind you, I'm still in the honeymoon period and once thats over am I back to square one with weight loss struggles?? I dont know. Anyway I'd love to know if the grass is greener on the other side...
  12. Just a little FYI..Im about 5 months out now and my appetite is back in full force. I really have to make an effort not to eat too much because it would be really easy for me to graze all day long. I can feel old cravings and habits coming back so i really have to keep myself in check!!

    30 minutes

I don’t wait before eating because my appetite is fine even if I drink right before eating. As soon as I’m done eating I start the 30 minutes on my iPhone timer and never drink before that. Go ahead and try to drink right after eating you’ll feel like crap!
  14. Be careful with salmon. I’m 5 months out and it still makes me kinda queasy because of all the fat.
  15. Yep Im a slow loser too. I quit my Facebook groups because I was tired of seeing people lose WAY more than me. But screw it...I am in way better shape than I was and if it takes me longer I'll have to live with it as long as I reach goal eventually. I can confidently say that working out at the gym is helping a lot in terms of my stall and getting the scale moving again. Also 600-800 seems very low!! Are you really sure about that? You should be on more calories by now. My nutritionist said because Im going to the gym 5 days a week i can have up to 1300 and still lose but we both know I'm not going to be able to do that so Im probably consuming around 800-1000. I dont really track it because Im trying to just eat super clean and very high protein. No processed foods, nothing out of bags and boxes. Just veggies, fruits and limited amounts of meat and cheese. I'm happy that I'm finally losing again. I really think you are eating too little and your body is holding onto your calories for dear life. Also...gotta get moving. It helps so much!

    Considering DS

You said you wanted the ugly right? My mom had the DS and its not pleasant in the bathroom area. She's never been able to overcome extreme gas, pretty gross bathroom habits and IBS like symptoms. It was over 10 years ago and never improved.
  17. My hunger never went away at all. I was hungry right out of the hospital. It sucks!! Im 3.5 months out now and I am finally getting my head in the game as far as deciding to really eat clean and plant based with some animal protein thrown in. I'm not saying I ate badly before but I am trying to really clean up my diet even more. I feel like the surgery has given me an opportunity to reset my mind with the 18 days of liquids and then purees etc I was unable to rely on food like before and it forced me to find others ways of coping with uncomfortable feelings. So I can eat pretty much anything and never get sick but I am chosing not to because I feel better when Iisten to what my body really wants (healthy foods).

    I’m so confused

My only regret is that I didnt do it MUCH sooner. I havent had any complications at all. No dumping, no puking, no regrets,

    Need encouragement from slow losers

Slow loser here. It’s very hard to have faith and believe it’s possible to hit goal weight. Im just taking it day by day and trying to maximize the honeymoon period.

    TMI question re. vomiting

I’m 3 months out and never puked thank goodness.

    Post Op Weight Loss

Yep, my weight loss doesn’t match up to others who did it roughly the same time. I’m older, lower starting weight and have a crappy metabolism. I have absolutely stuck to the plan though and lost over 35 pounds since 1/22. Is it earth shattering? No, but it’s not a race. This journey is for life

    Immediate Weight Loss

If you really think about it, and I’m not being sarcastic, you couldn’t physically gain 5 pounds of fat in a week right? So it had to be fluid. Every person who panics about weight gain after surgery needs to remember that it’s not possible to gain fat if you’re not eating and if it’s that rapid (5-10 lbs in a week)
  23. I’m down 33 pounds but don’t feel like I look that different. I still feel huge
  24. I don’t eat a full cup of anything unless it’s salad. Also I’m going to the gym because my doctor told me that I am just one of those people who will need to do weight lifting in order to burn fat. My metabolism is garbage and it has been since my 20’s. I come from a long line of obese people and my body holds on to every ounce of fat like crazy. The first month after surgery I only lost 18 pounds and I was following the diet absolutely perfectly. 15 of those days was a liquid diet. So I am obviously not good at losing weight. I also want to reiterate that I never made sugar-free pudding or any of that kind of stuff. I really just have to work harder than most people to lose weight I guess
  25. Guys, I am desperate for information about this subject. I am 2 1/2 months out and I’m really concerned about how things are going. It is so easy for me to eat absolutely anything. I’ve never had anything get stuck. I don’t dump. My appetite never did diminish even right after surgery. Like I still get hungry often. While I do eat a lot less it’s very concerning that I could easily graze all day if I let myself. I read so much about people having no appetite, having a lot of restriction and I’m so envious. I feel really cursed that I don’t have much in the way of restriction. I’ve lost 30 pounds since surgery which yes, it’s good but it’s not typical. Most people have lost a lot more by now. Those who are in the same boat, DID YOU LOSE WEIGHT? like even if it was a little slow did you lose all your weight? Do you struggle to keep it off? I’m so scared this won’t work for me. I’m really trying but I have to use a lot of willpower as my surgery didn’t change my appetite at all. I could easily eat any meat, anything greasy, any bread, pasta, etc. no problem ! (Not that I do, just needed to test the waters) I want to mention that even though I can eat anything I am sticking to my plan. I eat mostly protein and get all my water and vitamins every day and ZERO sugar. No sweets or fake deserts like protein cookies. Any insight about long term success?
