The Thrill Is Gone
jasmineinmymind replied to GreenTealael's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Count me in for another one obsessed with My 600 lb Life. I dont care anymore. I used to go to the grocery store and buy a ton of food for a bad day. French bread, spinach dip, rotisserie chicken, sides from the deli and of course a variety of deserts. I would use the excuse that I deserve it. Now I have other ways to cope with being tired or having a bad day. I dont go to the store when I feel stressed out because I dont want to be tempted. Eating out...the thrill is gone. I can only eat tiny amounts so I have to sit and watch other people eat -
Agree with everything said. For me #1 was that I was going to have a journey that was unlike anyone else I'd read about. I obsessively watched WLS videos on youtube and expected to be like everyone else. What I learned: 1. Some people drop a ton of weight right away and I did NOT 2. A lot of people had dumping, foamies, food getting stuck and I did not at all 3. A lot of people have hair loss and I do not 4. Many people feel no hunger and I was fricken starving from day one You really shouldnt have any expectations of what it'll be like because it could be total opposite for you. I told the nurse how paranoid I was about dehydration and as it turned out I drank my water just fine. Essentially, dont worry about what could happen, take it day by day.

Anyone use a CPAP machine?
jasmineinmymind replied to PEGGO's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I had to take mine and I needed it badly. With the morphine I was having really severe apnea. I stopped breathing every time I drifted off and that is with extra oxygen. I finally had them switch me to liquid Tylenol so I could actually sleep. At 5 months I stopped using it because it was making me more tired than when i did use it -

I ate Taco Bell a few days ago, mind you it was a taco. Thats it. But still the internet food police would have you believe you'll die if you eat fast food. I absolutely do not make it a habit and Im still losing weight. Went to a bbq last night and ate Doritos and 1/2 a hamburger patty with cheese. Its all about balance. -
Anyone know statistics on how many ppl get VSG but get no relief from hunger pains?
jasmineinmymind replied to KarenLR75's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I came out of surgery hungry, remained STARVING during the 10 days of liquids and have been hungry ever since. It was NOT head hunger. Yes, I do sometimes get head hunger and I feel like grazing but I was legit hungry. The only thing I can tell you is I'm down 60 pounds and I could never have done that where I was before surgery. You might be hungry but you eat small meals. Yes, that means I have to make more decisions. I never got the blessing of not being hungry but I'm managing. -
Getting off cpap..?
jasmineinmymind replied to jasmineinmymind's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Exactly. I think I probably still have sleep apnea but if the cpap makes me more tired, whats the point? The sleep doctor was no help. He basically just said some people dont sleep well and we dont know why -
What mind games do you play???
jasmineinmymind replied to Krestel's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I have been purging all of my fat clothes the minute they become too big. I have already given away at least 10 garbage bags full of clothes. When I am within 1-15 pounds of my goal weight I'll hang on to those clothes. I didnt "see" my weight loss for the first 50 pounds but now I see it. I feel like I look different finally. I guess you'd call this a mind game but I am tortured by my crepey neck and my wrinkly arms. I am trying to focus on the positive but it sucks so much that plastic surgery costs a fortune. I want to get my neck done SO bad. It looks terrible and there is no way to hide it because the ugly part is right up under my chin. -
Hair loss post surgery
jasmineinmymind replied to JSSteinman's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Definitely dont panic just yet. I am on my 7th month and I have had a little shedding but no real hair loss. I was losing hair previously due to menopause so I was really worried but not much has changed -
Your stall story
jasmineinmymind replied to stilljustafatguy's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I stalled for the first 2-4 months. I still dont know why. I was able to start losing again once I starting working out at the gym. -
Realizing just how fat I was...and still am
jasmineinmymind replied to MikeIL's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I feel the same way. I feel like I'm at a decent weight now, meaning I'm not plus size anymore and I look a lot better than I did but my mind goes to the weight I still have to lose. I feel like I'm still fat and I cant just enjoy my success so far. I agree we all have some dysmorphia. Probably years of feeling like a failure. Its hard to get rid of those negative feelings. I think also, most of us lose weight and start to sag and get flabby in certain places and that makes the weight loss less positive. The loose skin is the biggest downside to weight loss for sure. One thing I can say...I gave my old clothes to a co worker who apparently was my size when I started and I CANT BELIEVE how big she looks. I had no idea I was that big. So I didnt know how fat I was in the beginning and I dont know how 'thin" I am now. I have a distorted image of myself apparently at every stage. -
6 months out. I had one beer a few weeks ago. We were out to dinner and I drank it in about an hour. No buzz. I felt guilty though and will probably not drink again except special occasions. I'm so scared to try wine. I feel like I might feel kind of dumpy or get heartburn.

Why are my sheets all bunched up beneath me? Oh wait, that's just my butt
jasmineinmymind replied to MikeIL's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I was painting the other day and found out how incredibly annoying it is to paint while your arm is flapping. I work out 5 days a week and Im trying to build muscle in my arms but that flabby stuff is pretty persistent. I still have hope it'll firm up. My butt also looks like a balloon someone deflated. Trying to build up some muscles in the gym but it's pretty slow going -
They eat so much junk food it actually just makes me hungry

Well this is just sad. Surgery was 1/22/19 and I’ve only lost 52 pounds. I wish it was more :(

Gained weight, oh no!!!
jasmineinmymind replied to med28thmed's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Ive stalled plenty of times but never gained yet. I am so scared of that! I think the answer is always back to basics. Go back to what you know works and you cant go wrong -
Is there anything you wish you knew before surgery?
jasmineinmymind replied to Zemi's topic in The Gals' Room
I wish I had known that having weight-loss surgery did not guarantee weight loss. I went through a massive stall and it only changed when I started working out at the gym. People think that you won’t be hungry and that definitely wasn’t the case for me. I have been hungry right from the start. I wasn’t expecting to be able to eat everything and have nothing make me sick so I still have to use a lot of willpower. The main thing I wish that I had known though is that it would all be ok and I should have done it 10 years ago -
Bariatric surgery was a big mistake
jasmineinmymind replied to Alvinchicago's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I can eat bread, rice and pasta. Sure they’re small amounts but I can eat them with no problem. Just saying gastric bypass does not automatically mean that you can’t eat normal foods. Before the food police jump down my throat I eat mostly protein. I eat the healthiest foods I can, no sugar or sugar substitutes. No chemicals or processed foods . I am losing weight. I just hope anyone reading this who is pre op knows that it’s very individual and no two surgeries are alike -
I CAN DRINK WATER AGAIN!
jasmineinmymind replied to GettinSkinnywithit's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I also have been able to drink plain water. Thank God because I HATE flavoring my water! -
Im at 6 months and just in the last week Ive noticed an increase in the amount of hair I'm shedding during a shower. Nothing major though and I hope this isnt a trend. I havent taken biotin or anything else. I just try get in my protein and water in. Honestly everything else is more of a placebo. If they really worked then the ladies with clumps coming out would be very happy

Stretching pouch directly after surgery?
jasmineinmymind replied to Krestel's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Just be careful about eating till you're full. After a bypass "full" feels completely different. You will not feel the same sense of fullness that tells you to stop. You have to measure everything and then stop because you ate you 1/2 a cup, not because you feel full. If you go beyond that it's easy to get sick. At 6 months I still dont feel full, I just stop eating because I know I need to. As far as how much to eat, that varies by doctor and you'll get a lot of different opinions but early on should be around 1/4 of a cup and I think 1/2 a cup after 3-4 months. Try eating 1/4 of a cup and see if that keeps you satisfied for a few hours. You're going to eat tiny amounts but often -
I don’t have a gallbladder but this has never happened to me
