    Tell Me Your Pre-op Timeline

I am pretty sure my surgeon is more thorough than most. I am in pretty good health. No issues other than sleep apnea. In October I think I did the usual lab work and physical, in November and December I was required to have a colonoscopy and endoscopy. I also had to have a chest X Ray, blood gas, stress test, mammogram, well woman exam (pap smear) Psych, nutrition class and follow ups, and weight management appointments with my PCP. These are all separate appointments (usually an hour away) so it was no picnic. But basically I started in October and am having surgery January 22. I made an Excel spreadsheet to keep track of all my appointments and requirements because it can be overwhelming, especially when the specialists are booked up months in advance and you just want to get stuff over with!

    Jan 2019 bypass buddies

I got my date today. January 22. Miraculously I dont have to do a liquid diet except 3 days prior to surgery (but I do get to do a nice bowel cleanse the day before) I also was told to maintain my weight. I'm guessing so I stay within the BMI guidelines. I've been obsessively watching Youtube videos of bypass people but I should probably ease up on that. Im getting scared of dehydration and dumping and all that other fun stuff. I am just SO HAPPY to have a date, finally!

    Life without NSAIDS?

Same here. They were very clear that we are not to consume any caffeine for at least a year but it would be best to just give it up completely. No coffee, even caffeine free. Iโ€™ve been drinking Coffee substitute and itโ€™s been ok though I do get an occasional headache from giving up caffeine

Could you not have had some chicken broth? Is it a protein issue?

    Life without NSAIDS?

We'll see. I have a painful bone spur on my heel which I use the gel for and I wonder how I'll be able to manage that pain once I have surgery. My doc is very adamant about NO NSAIDS so I guess I'll be looking for creative solutions

    Life without NSAIDS?

I have that too and that is a topical NSAID which is not allowed. I mean, you can take your chances but I know for me, I'll stop using it once I have my surgery because I'm way too scared of ulcers. The topical gel still passes through your system and can still cause ulcers so I'd think about a second opinion, or do some research

I'm 60. Anyone else over 50 doing RNY?

I'm 51. I know I will be one of those people who really wishes they'd done it much earlier! I can only go forward from here.
