  1. Thanks so much everyone for the replies. I do have someone meeting me at the hospital who will bring me to my apartment, so that is taken care of. I was going to try and maybe work again on Thursday, is that totally crazy after a Monday surgery?

    For Orthodox Jews

Another frummie here! My surgery is IYH on March 9th which happens to Taanes Esther. I'm being banded by Dr. Fielding at NYU and will have to be in the hospital overnight on Purim. It feels a little strange to have to be in the hospital then but having surgery is too important, and this is my only chance to do it before Pesach. I'm hoping that my brother in law will come read Megilla for me on Purim night while I'm in the hospital. I'm a little bit nervous about Pesach and matza, I'm going to be one month post op and have a feeling that I won't be able to chew it. My family only eats handmade shmura matza and I can barely get the stuff down without a band! I guess I'll just play by ear and if I can't manage it then I won't eat it. Nice to meet all of you!
  3. My surgeon requires two weeks of liquids, so Monday is my first liquid day. I'm kinda nervous about the hunger but am sure I'll be fine. I just want to have surgery and start losing already.

  4. wow! a TT before the band left you with such a flat stomach? i'm amazed

  5. thanks for the reply. so i'll be mobile enough to go get a drink or something, right?
  6. So wierd! Hope you are able to get approved through the secondary insurance.

    New and Dissapointed :(

My employer also added lap band coverage this year. Talk to your HR and talk to your benefits manager and see if they could think about adding. Good luck!

    How long

it really depends on your surgeon. it is taking me six weeks from my surgeon appointment to the actual surgery

Small shirt and size 4 jeans !

for real??? you look incredible! so inpiring!
  10. you look unbelievable, i seriously can't believe its the same person as the before pics. you're my inspiration!
  11. Nope not banded yet - surgery is March 9th. Can't wait!

  12. Are you sure you read correctly? I also have Aetna and they definitely cover the band, just the way it's worded may be confusing. Why don't you call an Aetna rep and make sure that it's not covered. It would be wierd if your employer chose to just cover gastric bypass and not gastric banding... these are what aetna covers - i bolded the band open or laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB), open or laparoscopic biliopancreatic diversion (BPD) with or without duodenal switch (DS), or laparoscopic adjustable silicone gastric banding (LASGB) good luck!
  13. Ok I hope I remember this. Click on anyone's ticker and it will take you to the site, and you create a pin which will then let you make your own ticker. Once you have the ticker you copy the link and paste it here. To paste it you go to User CP at the top left corner and then click on Edit Signature and paste the link in. Hope that helped.
  14. My surgeon requires two weeks of liquids pre-surgery, so I'm having a bit of a party until then. I figure this is it for the rest of my life! I am not really nervous, I only freak out when I read complications threads on here so I've been staying away. I live in Manhattan, my name is Rochel.
  15. I'm being banded on March 9th too, at NYU. We can be buddies!
  16. I talked to my HR department about adding WLS to the policy at the start of the next year (2009) and miraculously it did getting added. So I'm scheduled for surgery on March 9th. I did all the insurance requirements in 2008 on the off chance that my policy would change, and I'm glad I did b/c it meant that I could move ahead more quickly.
  17. I'm being banded on March 9th by Dr. Fielding and I have Aetna (he is in their network). I have only heard great things about him which is why I decided to go with the NYU group. Your first step if you want to use that practice is to go to one of their information seminars. Here is their website - it will tell you everything you need to know. NYU Thin For Life Good luck!

    you look great!
  19. You're giving me hope! I'm not even banded yet and I'm already worrying about loose skin and plastic surgery. Hopefully weight training will be enough for me too.

  20. LOL good point. And given how long one sits around that office there is plenty of time for discussion  I guess I am not active enough on the board yet so I haven't come across the other NYUers.
  21. I'm being banded on March 9th by Dr. Fielding. I can't believe how few of us NYUers seem to be on this board given how busy that office is!
  22. How awful and tragic. I've been following the news like a hawk as I have spent a lot of time in Australia and have many friends there. I'm thinking of all you constantly, and am hoping to hear better news soon.

You look unbelievable! I kept switching from this pic to your before pic, I honestly can't believe it's the same person. Pics like yours are what keep me inspired - thanks so much for sharing them.
