  1. I had my first fill four weeks after surgery of 5cc in a 10cc band. I had small restriction for the first few days but then was back to feeling barely any restriction, so I went back for another fill a couple weeks later. The doc added 1cc but I couldn't even keep saliva down, so I went back the next day to take liquid out. He took out 1.2cc so my stomach calmed down, but then I was back to no restriction. I went back a week later for a fill and he put back 1cc (which left me at 5.8 cc's) and I was ok for a few hours and then started vomiting saliva again. Went back to the doc the next day (which was yesterday) and he took out .5 cc so now I'm 5.3 cc approximately. I can keep down liquids (coffee, tea, water, protein shakes) but haven't tried anything heavier. It's wierd that a tenth of a cc can make such a difference.
  2. EbonyRose I feel your pain! I live in NY where it's illegal to talk on a cell phone without a headset. The other day I got a fill and was too tight so was vomiting saliva every ten minutes. I was driving and was stopped at a light and leaned over to vomit into my cup, and two seconds later a cop pulls me over. He's like I pulled you over because it seems you were talking on a cell phone. I said absolutely not, I don't feel well and was throwing up into a cup, and I picked up the cup and kind of held it near the window. He got a look of utter disgust on his face and fled back to his car and drove away. It was hilarious!
  3. I did have a meal the night before. I'm an accountant and had surgery during tax season, and worked a 15 hour day the day before surgery. I definitely ate at work the night before. I'm not telling you to do that, but it didn't cause me any problems.
  4. When you become an expert at throwing up into a cup while driving. Love this thread!
  5. 20 pounds is great! I was supposed to be on a liquid diet two weeks pre-surgery but couldn't get through it and cheated ALOT, and my surgery was completely fine. You will be fine tomorrow, don't worry. Good luck!
  6. I actually asked the psychologist who did my evaluation if he has ever stopped someone from getting the band, and he said he hasn't and won't. He said that he wouldn't want it on his conscience that he stopped someone who wants this surgery from getting it, and that he will tell the surgeon that someone may not be a star pupil but he won't ever write something to stop anyone from qualifying.

    Post Fill - Nausea

I get nauseous when I have an unfill, and I keep having a gag reflex where I want to throw up even though I don't have to. Maybe you also get nauseous when you have an unfill? I've had two in the last week (one was this morning) and I'm still pretty nauseous.

Before & After 1 year side

wow you look amazing! you must feel fabulous. any tips for those of us who are at the beginning of all this?
  9. I have a 10 cc band and my first fill was five cc's. Second was 1 cc but I had thrown up recently before the fill (the nurse said I could have a fill anyway - BIG mistake) and couldn't swallow my own spit after. Next day I had 1.25cc removed, and today (6 days later) I had 1cc put back in. So now I'm at 5.75cc and pray that this will be a good restriction level. With 5 cc in my band I had almost no restriction, and could eat everything in pretty large quantities.

    For Orthodox Jews

I've had a really rough time, b/c not only am I eating nasty Pesach food but I'm trying to learn how to eat with a band as I got my first fill one week ago. I ate matza at the first seder and felt like I was suffocating, had to run to the toilet and was heaving for like an hour. I have since thrown up three more times, even though I've been extremely careful about what I'm eating and to chew well. Today I ate some sweet potato and my band just didn't like it, it came right back up. This is such a learning process!
  16. You'll feel totally fine, the only thing you'll need to do is prepare the kind of food you'll be allowed to eat. You'll prob be transitioning to mushies around then and will have to be creative about portable filling mushy foods. Have fun!

Just want to wish everyone a good Yom Tov! Hope this Pesach is enjoyable for everyone and the food manageable.
  18. I was banded on 3/9 and am now allowed to eat everything, and let me tell you I'm starving. I can eat so much more than one would think, and get really really hungry. I am having my first fill on Monday and am praying I'll get some restriction.

    March 9 surgery date

I was banded on 3/9 as well, but I wont get my first fill untill 4/23. At this point I have no restriction and can eat anything I want. I have had a couple of bad meals but for the most part I am still eating right, Working on small bites and chewing well. As for the hungry part that is why they call this "Bandster Hell". I keep in mind what it is that I am trying to accomplish, and the hungries don't seem so bad. Thanks for your reponse, I feel better knowing that others are experiencing the same thing. I'm finding it really really difficult to eat right, I'm trying but it's really hard. I am also going into that negative "last supper" kind of place, b/c I know that once I have restriction things will be off limits. I guess all I can do is try, and hope that once Monday comes and I get my fill I'll have some real restriction.

    March 9 surgery date

I'm back to regular food and it's freaking me out b/c I can eat a ton. Way way way more than I expected to be able to eat - almost back to pre-surgerical amounts. I have to chew well or things feel stuck but thank god I have not thrown up once (had a couple close calls but was able to keep it down) and am really able to eat. Is anyone else finding that they have no restriction? I am sure that I have gained some weight back (too scared to weigh myself) but I get so hungry! My first fill is on Monday and I can't wait - hopefully I'll get some restriction then. How are the rest of you doing?
  21. Hi! Thanks for checking up. I did have my surgery on 3/9/09 and everything went great. I'm feeling a little too good actually, my stomach seems to be healed b/c I get really hungry and can eat way more than someone with a band should be able to. My first fill is on 4/6 and I can't wait - hopefully I'll get some restriction then.
  22. Hi All I had surgery on Monday (today is Thursday) and I'm feeling really constipated. I'm wondering if anyone has any tricks to help go to the bathroom? I've been drinking as much as I can (low cal vitamin water) with two protein shakes and some broth a day for hunger. Any advice?

    March 9 surgery date

i was march 9th also. it took about a week but i definitely feel like i'm back to normal. i can tell that i'm healing inside b/c i drink liquids much more quickly than i could a week ago, and i'm starting to feel hungry again. how are you all doing?
  24. um yes. i was having meltdowns for the few days before and was seriously petrified. i'm thrilled now that i didn't run out of that hospital but believe me i wanted to. you'll be fine.
  25. You have to ask your surgeon what he allows. Mine (Dr. Fielding at NYU) allows one cup of caffeinated coffee per day, but some feel that it's too acidic or something.
