Unable to eat or drink band got too tight.
asbrown replied to Carramia's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This has happened to me. I was sick for 3 months with sinus issues and the ENT doc told me I had acid reflux and that the reflux was causing sinus issues. Now, after a few weeks, I can't keep anything down. I can barely drink and can only eat maybe 2 bites and then I feel as if it's going to come back up (and usually does). I'm going to the doc on Wednesday. -
Maryland Lapband fills
asbrown replied to albertjhannan's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi NaNa, I called Dr. Moazzez's office because his office is right around the corner from my office and the lady that answered said he doesn't fill patients who had their surgery in Mexico. -
I wondered about this same question. I usually don't drink more than a sip of Water to wash out my mouth while i'm eating but I heard that if we drink while we eat, we can create a "stopped up sink" effect in our belly. The food will fill the port hole and water has no-where to go but to sit on the top of your belly. So that's had me nervous to not push it to drink more than a sip of water. Anita

Love Them!! You must try the Black Bean Flavor Burger. My man and I put them in a pan, grill them and then add a couple of eggs, scramble it all up and put it on a tortilla. Yummy.... :hungry:

Please help - Deodorants / Antiperspirants Quetion
asbrown replied to KarenA's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
This exact problem is happening to me also. AND... I wear Secret!!! I can't believe I was just talking to my hubby about it and here it is. I've been wearing Secret for years and never had an issue until about 2 weeks ago..about 2 1/2 weeks into my band-life. Weird...I thought it was just me..time to switch. -
Hey Peps~ Well I've been out for awhile... Lost 18 pounds but the scale hasn't budged in over a week. On the constipation issue....milk of magnesia works GREAT!!:clap2: It didn't bloat me and worked it's way through my system within hours and without pain. A bypass friend of mine recommended it and I decided to pass it on. I read the posts about being cold...I was always cold prior to being banded and now I'm fine. It is not unusual for me to be a bit backwards. Doc says it's probably because i'm taking a Vitamin B complex.

Hey All~ Up and Down in how I feel. Some days are great while others are terrible. I noticed if I don't get enough water, I feel horrible. The left shoulder pain still comes when I drink or eat too much although I'm now able to eat more. Glad to know I'm not alone. Take Care,

I found this helpful info from a local Doc in my area....Hope it helps... http://www.alagsa.com/after_agb.html#main "Nibble AFTER you Dribble , or DO NOT EAT AND DRINK AT THE SAME TIME! Your old stomach was very large (think of a 2 liter Coke bottle). With that size and that shape, even if you filled yourself with solid food, you could still drink a glass of Water without problems. This is because a normal stomach has something called the "fast-track". liquids can (in a normal stomach) slip down the greater curvature curving around the solid food quickly to the pylorus and empty into the duodenum without much notice except maybe whirling the food a bit. After surgery, things are different. THERE IS NO FAST-TRACK FOR LIQUIDS. So, if you eat solid food, then drink, you may experience pain or vomiting or both. The longer you wait after meals before drinking, the better for two reasons. 1) You will avoid flushing out the stomach for longer periods of time and therefore avoid rapid hunger and 2)You will avoid the stopped up sink effect. So, DRIBBLE BEFORE YOU NIBBLE and DON"T DRIBBLE WHILE YOU NIBBLE and DON"T DRIBBLE JUST AFTER YOU NIBBLE. To avoid the Stopped-Up Sink effect, it is best to drink liquids during the hours just before you plan to eat. Imagine if you put a GLOB of pudding in your sink and then turned on the water. The water would back up and sit there in the sink before eventually going down once the pudding thinned out and decided to go down. If this were your stomach tube, that water would fill it, stretch it, back up in your throat, and cause pain discomfort, possible vomiting and other problems. Now do the opposite. Pour the water in first and then add the pudding. The water will go straight through. Walk away and wait 45-60 minutes and come back. The pudding will have gone down without all the problems associated with BACK UP. So NIBBLE AFTER you DRIBBLE to avoid the "sink effect" (Also known as the Glob effect)."

Oh I can totally relate to you. I try my best to clear my throat, drink something, anything to avoid coughing. It is your muscle that your port is attached to that is flexing everytime you cough and it hurts since it is not completely healed. My doc recommended that I "hold" that area every time I feel a cough coming.

180 WOW I would double-check that with your doc. 80 is more like it.

Dena, I went through the same type of recovery. It was little hard cause I had heard about people have such great recovery's that they were out shopping the next day. The pain in my shoulder now only comes when I eat too much. It's like my own personal warning system. "stop" you've eaten or drank enough....Is what it says to me cause if I keep going the pain goes down my shoulder to my hand and back.

A lack of B-12 is common especially amongst woman and vegetarians without bands. Mood swings, memory lose, tiredness are some of my common symptoms that I need a "boost" of B.

Didn't gain but my belly was huge like I was 9 months pregnant. Anita

I'm 5 days post-op and plan on doing baby foods for the soft food intake. It's easy for me...no need to blend or mush anything. Sounds crazy but I think my taste buds have changed. Plus, eliminating everything but broth, water, and jello I think the flavor of the baby food will be strong to me. We'll see... Anita

I have been banded for 5 days and feel good thus far. I've been taking regular soup, such as chicken noodle, vegetable beef, and draining them, taking out the noodles, meat, etc. I personally think these taste better than just plain broth. I also drink Isopure which isn't bad at all and fills my belly quickly. Anita

Thanks for the kind words HeatherGurl.. Many people don't have the insight to realize that they are getting themselves into trouble with food and weight. I realized it because my blood preasure, stress, feeling overall horrible, and starting to look like my mother who is 5'3 and 220 pds with high bp. Many people may think I'm crazy but I traveled to Monterrey Mexico and the people there are general thin and the woman are beautiful. I've been to the Far East and it's the same. We here in the US are bombared by super size this and that and huge meals at restaurants that we are generally an obese society. A bmi over 30 is considered obese. I wasn't interested in becoming morbidly obese and the feelings and poor health that comes along with it. So, I was banded 5 1/2 days ago and i've lost 11 pounds. I can't believe it and i'm sure the weight lose will slow once I come off of the liquid only diet. :clap2: Anita

Tijuane vs. Monterrey, Help!
asbrown replied to cherylgrzeb's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
Hey, It's me...and I'm back home from Dr. Sanchez's in Monterrey. A couple of things to note....the guest house is nice; however, the beds are hard which I'm not used to and got little sleep the day before I left. Also, recommend taking shower shoes with you. You'll be able to shower at the hospital the day after your surgery. Travel lite...try not to do any airline carry-ons because you'll have layovers and have to carry it around. I purchased a little cart cause my belly hurt and I couldn't carry a thing. Check this out.....banded on Sat, 18th, down 11 pounds....yeah!!!:clap2: As far as the insurance question...I would recommend checking with your personal insurance company. Every one is very different. I have a very liberal one and am covered for just about everything. However, my fiance's insurance is terrible and he must get everything approved through his PCP. Good Luck Ladies!!!! Anita in VA -
Tijuane vs. Monterrey, Help!
asbrown replied to cherylgrzeb's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
Hello All ~ I'm writing you from Dr. Sanchez's guest house computer. I flew in Friday night late; however, Mario (transportation) was there to pick me up. My surgery was early Saturday, and i'm back at the house today. The hospital is very nice...much nicer than my local hospital back home! The people here have made me feel like family which is very nice since I'm traveling alone. The nurses at the hospital were very great to me. Some spoke english and some didn't but we were able to communicate. The whole experience has been great especially since I'm so far from home. I primarily chose Dr. Sanchez because of the hospital setting which turned out better than I expected. His physicians teams follow-up has been great. They checked me on a couple times yesterday and today. I know I wouldn't get that back home. Monterrey is an upscale city with upscale shops if you're into shopping. It is definitely not a border town which I've been to and was not impressed. It is significantly nicer than I imagined! So...I can say from personal experience thus far that this is been a very good experience for me. Good luck in your decision. Anita  -
OH MY!!!!!!!!! Ok....this totally had my laughing my a** off. Tooo funny... Thanks for sharing.

Oh Photonut, You're so clear minded. It is obvious you are loved, if not by a man at home, certainly by the Man upstairs. Happy V-Day
-
Hey Sorry you had such a bad day....i'm floating in the same boat. I'm out of town and haven't even gotten an over the phone "happy v-day" from my man. They're all assholes as some point or another.

I am a lower BMI (31) patient and I get banded Feb 18th. Of course, i'm self pay and must go to Monterrey for surgery. I have hypertension and come from a family of obesity. I don't live near my family so after struggling with failure to loose and keep the weight off, i've decided to do this before I gain to much more weight. Some people may think I'm crazy, but when you know nothing but eating out at Mickey D's and having fried pork chops for dinner, it is hard to change. I also have a 9 yo son who is considered obese and i'm hoping my change will help him modify his eating habits. I've heard it is harder for lower bmi patients to lose weight....not sure..but i'll find out.:rolleyes

Please note that this is not an endorsement nor a referral because I haven't been to either of these offices. This was sent to me as offices that will do fills for individuals that have had their surgery conducted internationally. These offices are located in Northern VA. http://www.metrobariatrics.com/ http://www.alagsa.com/ Hope it helps Anita

Is my surgeon misrepresenting how many bands he's done?
asbrown replied to Sunta's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I would run. Even if he's conducted 40, it isn't enough to show how well or how bad he is as a lap-band surgeon on top of the fact that you're getting shady information from him. I wouldn't bother with him or his office and seek out someone else. Don't settle for mediocrity.
