  1. I am 2 years post op with the lap band. I have acquired the nickname of "Murphy" as in Murphy's Law when it comes to my band. So far, right after surgery, the port flipped, which brought on surgery #2. Then 2 different times and after bouts with bronchitis, my band just arbitrarily tightened on it's own. Then after a mad crazy drive to the doctor office with a spit cup (I couldn't even swallow the spit my body was producing) fluid was removed the problem solved and later the fluid was replaced. Just a few months ago, I had a surgery to repair a ventral hernia at the surgery sight of one of the fluoroscopic tools. With that fixed, I have now started having stabbing pains in the area of my port and today a second round of esophageal spasms that sent me to the emergency room. Heart is fine, and the pain let up, but I am at a loss as to what to do. I am so disgusted with all of it and the minimal weight loss just adds to the frustration. Help, has anyone had any or as many problems as me or am I just the lucky one.

    Upside down port

Just came from the doctor who confirmed (by xray) that my port indeed has "flipped" over. I am now waiting on the surgery center to call me back with a date that hopefully be early next week... The doctor said he will go on and do a fill a the time of the surgery (which is not protocol) but since it is not the actual surgery but a repair, he will do it... Anyone else have a port problem??? At least my insurance will cover this, I hope:confused2::confused2::confused2:

    I'm back

Well, made it through surgery and can't wait to get back to walking (more than just around the house). I have a swimming pool now and all the work getting it up and running before my surgery is reminding me to keep active or be sore. In other words, my legs and arms think I have done something mean to them and are paying me back by hurting. Well, I did do them wrong, I left them alone and idle for too long. Won't do that again. I heard about a cool site on the web...just go to Cool Running :: running run training marathon runners jogging jogger joggers runner run fitness exercise diet weight loss nut... and check out the couch to 5k. As soon as the doc clears me, I'm on it.

    Minor delay

I have surgery scheduled for Wednesday May 21 to fix my port. Seems the little devil flipped over and is now upside down. I guess, it freaked out when it saw the needle coming for the last fill. Oh well, only a delay, not the end. Have lost 21 pounds so far and only 84 more to go. I have set small goals and have already attained my first. This is something only an overweight person would recognize. I used to have to get someone to tie my shoes for me and now not only can I tie them myself, the bow ends up in the middle of the shoe and not nestled to the inside of the tongue. On to bigger and more substantial goals. As they say in AA... it works if you work it and it is worth it.

    Exercise...post surgery

I am slow to figure out this site so if I am slow to reply to anyone...please be patient...I love the thought of having a buddy. My best friend close to home is everything I am not. She is 6' tall with curly hair and thin as a pencil. I am undertall, overweight with hair as straight as a pencil. Thanks to everyone, maybe we can exchange emails and check in with each other daily.
  11. I had my original surgery in Feb 08...only lost 23 pounds and now have to have a port revision next week. I had a revelation last night and realized that if I want this to work, I will have to do some work. I live in a non-supportive house where everyone thinks it is a big joke to bring my favorite ice cream in and see if I will fall. I have decided to pour myself into exercise to help quit smoking and get my mind on healthier thoughts instead of ice cream. If anyone would like an online buddy to exercise with, please let me know.:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:
  12. I think i figured out how to add my ticker thingy...I'm in south Louisiana watch weather.com....we are making the news

  13. Where does everyone get these cool little tickers to record their loss so far???
  14. I was having problems with constipation...I use Pericolace now every few days if needed. It is a mild lax with a softener. I find that if I eat things like avocado or things of that nature that I don't have a need for "help"

    Hello, from New Orleans

Fairway Medical Center...Dr French I'm going tomorrow for him to look at the x-rays that show my port upside down and then we schedule the next surgery. I am being assured by the NP that this one will be much easier on my body because it just to "fix" something. We'll see...

  18. I am 1 of those whose port has turned in a wacky position. I went for my second fill yesterday...after 2 different people tried 8 different times to hit the port, it was decided that the stitches holding the port in place have broken and the port has "flipped" over. It was the strangest thing I've felt in a while when they were poking and you could hear the needle hit the back of the port. I could actually hear it tapping. Well, now I have to schedule another surgery to fix that problem. I'm kind of scared, kind of depressed. Am I unique with this problem or has anyone else had this before. :confused2:
