Shrinko de Mayo and Banded!
tmfritts replied to grossefemme's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congratulations on your bandings!! :frown: Hope to hear more about your road to recovery! Terri -
Hey beanbean - I have found that when I have had surgeries, the anesthesiologist has been more than happy to give me "happy juice" before I actually go into surgery. Just make sure you tell him when you talk to him prior to surgery that you are nervous and you want something to calm you down. Their job is to make this experience as comfortable as they can. They certainly don't want you jumping off the table and running out!!! Take some deep breaths and ask for the "happy juice"!!! :frown: woot! Terri

Good luck May 8thers!!! We will all be thinking about you and looking for your POST op postings!!! Lucky you!! :frown: Woot!! Terri

Hi everyone! My name is Terri and I live in West Hills, California - San Fernando Valley - and I have always thought I had a weight problem. Looking back to my childhood, I see that I wasn't fat, I was normal - my mom, brother and dad were all just skinny! Anyway, my weight problem really started around the age of 40, my mother-in-law died, my father had a stroke, I started having lower back problems, had surgeries, hysterectomy, borderline diabetic, and the list goes on! Looking back now, the only thing I could control was the food I put in my mouth! Of course I tried all the normal diets, exercise programs, etc. and I would lose maybe 30 pounds, but gain it all back plus some. (sound familiar?!). In September I am going to be 50, so I am definitely doing this for me. :frown: At my last doctor's visit I asked my doctor about surgery, and he suggested lap band surgery... and the rest is history! I am still doing Lindora (even though my heart is certainly not into it because I am worried I won't be able to eat any of my comfort foods after surgery, so I am sabbotoging (sp?) my diet - nothing new to me. I also have a wonderful DH (by the way, what does that mean? - darling husband???) and he is the only one who knows about my surgery. My family lives in Florida and my mom thinks that if I just stop eating dessert I will loose 80 pounds! yeah right mom!!! I wish!, so it is easy not to tell my family. I have two great daughters (almost 21 and almost 18) and I know they would be supportive if I told them! My friends are wonderful, but I am a little embarrassed to tell them because none of them have a weight problem. I imagine that I will tell them eventually before surgery. Anyway, thanks for listening - you guys are better than therapy!!! :tt2: xxoo Terri

Hey fluffycat! I'm being banded on May 22 also! Yeah us! :frown: Add your name to the list of those being banded on May 22! Terri
-
Hey Diane - Glad your nutrition seminar went well. I thought I had mine today - even went to it, but realized in the parking lot that it isn't until tomorrow!! Just a little bit of a brain fart there! :frown: Seem to be having them more often lately - oh well! My doctor has me do 3 days of liquid diet, but we will see what the nutritionist says tomorrow! Terri

Glad to hear you are doing well! I heard someone comment that when they have to cough, they cough while holding a pillow to their abdomen. Of course, you can't carry a pillow around with you everywhere (or maybe you can!!), but it should help at home! Let me know if it works!~ :frown: Terri
-
Hey Angelsoul - hope your cold is nothing more than a little bit of the sniffles! Do you have a fever? Just try to rest and not freak out about changing your date. You just have to relax and things will be fine. By the way, NY2LAgirl - I live in West Hills - we are practically neighbors! I'm being banded on May 22 in West Hills with Dr. Paya. Terri :frown:

I'm not banded yet, but congratulations on your surgery! Sorry to hear about the complications, hopefully you will have a speedy recovery! Terri:biggrin:
-
I enjoyed it too! It was the first time I actually felt a part of the conversation rather than a bystander!
-
Good luck to all May 7th bandsters!!! We are all rooting for you! Terri
-
Hey JustMel - how are you doing after surgery? It is great to hear about all of the May bandsters progress. It makes waiting for May 22nd a little bit easier and not quite so nerve wracking. My biggest problem is the anticipation! I am currently doing Lindora - and they have Protein shakes and products. Does anybody know if these can be used? Terri

Great to hear you are doing well feelgoodagain. Did you talk to your doctor about the port site? I have heard other people say that they talked to their doctor and asked them not to have the port near where their bra might be. Any problems with wearing a bra? (don't mean to get too personal!!) Terri

I am going to be banded on May 22, so this forum has been great! One of the biggest questions my husband keeps asking me is how I will feel not drinking anything with my meals. I always have iced tea or Water when I eat and I want to know if this is hard to get used to. Sometimes when we go out to dinner I will have wine, is this a no-no for the rest of my life? Thanks!

Hey JustVal! Congrats on your 9 lb weight loss!! As for your "butt head" family, just remember that you will have the last laugh when you are looking all thin and hot!!! (and I don't mean southern weather hot!) Hopefully they will all come to their senses and start supporting you, instead of hindering you! Keep it up!!! We are all proud of you! Terri
-
Hey JustMel - I love your phrase about "jumping off a building and building your wings on the way down"!! That's great! Only 48 hours to go? Good luck, let us know how you do! By the way, can anyone tell me the difference between a "New Reply" and a "Quick Reply"? Still catching on to this posting thing! :confused2: Thanks! Terri
-
Glad everything went well with your surgery. It is so good to hear other people saying that they are getting banded on a Thursday or Friday and returning to work the next Monday or Tuesday! I know that healing is individual, but it is still great to hear positive stories. Good luck to all being banded on May 6th! Terri

San Fernando valley, Hollywood or West LA?
tmfritts replied to serenity55's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi all you Valley people! I'm having surgery on May 22nd in West Hills with Dr. Mark Paya. So far, everything has gone smoothly. Had my psychiatric visit last week, have my nutritionist visit this week and going to a seminar at West Hills Hospital I think on the 13th. So far Dr. Paya's office has been terrific. Always there when I have a question (and I have a lot of them!). Terri :wink2: -

tmfritts replied to RAS_STI's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
GOOD LUCK!!!! Can't wait to hear about your POST-op experience!!! :wink2: woot! -
I too have the same fears! I am afraid of failing (once again), but I'm also afraid of never being able to eat my Mom's Pasta again! What's wrong with this picture!!! Also, when I read all of the postings about some foods not agreeing with people, I worry because I'm not a fan of throwing up! I am going to be the big 5-0 in September and I DO NOT want to be "fat and fifty"!!! I want to be "fit and fabulous"!! I know I can do this, but I think my nerves might be getting the best of me. That is why this website has been sooooo helpful! Thanks everyone! :wink2:

How are you doing now? You have had a few more days to recuperate. Like reading all of the stories - it helps with nerves! Having surgery on May 22nd. Terri
-
Glad it went well!! Keep us posted! May 22nd is my date. I am hoping to have surgery on Thursday and back to work on Tuesday - am I being unrealistic???!!! Terri
