I'm so happy for you! Way to go! I've got 15 more pounds because I get out of "obese" and into "overweight"
-
Way to go! Good job!

I wouldn't think so. It would take a lot of effort to stretch your pouch. Just stay hydrated and sip, don't gulp.

Question about drinking with meals
GradyCat replied to Friday205's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Soups ARE liquids for all intents and purposes, but you need to get used to the idea of not drinking with your meals when you get to solid foods. -
The thirst is real!!
GradyCat replied to Je$$ica36's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Call your nutritionist. They should have given you a sheet telling you which vitamins to take. You definitely need them. Mine has me taking a soft chew multivitamin, B12, Vitamin D, and Calcium. Glad you're staying hydrated. -
It's normal to stall. I had a stall at Week 4 for two weeks, as is typical for most people post-op, and then I hit another stall at Month 4 that lasted for an entire month despite eating the right number of calories, drinking my water, getting my protein, and exercising. I thought I was the only person in history to not lose weight. It's just a natural thing for your body to do at certain pre-set points. Stay off the scale for a while and let it pass.

On day 1. What are some tips you have to stay motivated?
GradyCat replied to K8ecakes's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Be prepared for stalls along the way. They are normal, albeit frustrating, so you need to be okay with them when they happen and not get discouraged or give up. -
Just focus on healing at this point. Your body is adjusting to just having undergone major surgery, IV fluids, etc. Just stay off the scale for the first month and make sure you're getting in your 60 g of Protein, 64 oz of fluids.

I did. It's all about what your body will tolerate.

Need recommendations for vitamins/supplements to take while awaiting surgery in a couple months
GradyCat replied to KarenLR75's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
You could take the same vitamind pre-op that you're going to need post-op. I take Calcium, Vitamin D, a multivitamin, and B12. I also take Biotin as a supplement to help with the hair loss. -
No my dietitian definitely wants me weighing and measuring things

It's NORMAL! I was in a stall from Month 4 to Month 5 - a whole MONTH! But now the scale is moving again. I was beating myself up even though I knew I was doing everything right with eating, exercising, protein, and water. It just happens. Stalls are a NORMAL part of the weight loss process. I think Month 4 is a natural stall point while the body catches up. Don't worry. Be patient. It's not over.

New here- where to start?
GradyCat replied to Gibnic's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I started "practicing" eating like I would be eating after the WLS before the WLS so I could get used to it mentally, small portions. -
Just brush it off "Have you lost weight?" "No, not that I know of" or just say you're dieting and exercising, which of course you are
-
Only my husband knows. Not that people are asking me how I'm losing weight my answers are (1) What weight? Blowing it off; or (2) Diet and exercise, which is true because the surgery was only a tool and I still have to do the work. I'm not comfortable telling anyone I had the surgery

An Amazon or Under Armour gift card? A nice handwritten thank you note/card sounds thoughtful.
-
Oh no! What a horrible situation for you to be in. Did they ever give you an approval code number or anything? When my insurance approved me before surgery, they sent me an electronic message in their online portal and texted me with the approval code that I could use for verification.

I had disappointing news yesterday that I was going to need two crowns on my teeth costing $1800. At first I thought of "comfort food" but thankfully those feelings went away quickly and I recognized that this wasn't a problem that was going to be solved by food and that I just needed to deal with my dental issues. It worked, I didn't eat anything in a panic!
-
Sure it's normal. It's a big deal. It's a major surgery and it's going to have a big impact on both your immediate future and the rest of your life. Take a deep breath . . . you've got this!

Surgery TOMORROW! Is there anything I'm forgetting?
GradyCat replied to KSan35's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You might want chapstick and lotion. -
Interview with different surgeons?
GradyCat replied to vovo2013's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I got lucky and liked the first one I met with, both her personality and her ability and approach to the surgery. -
Mostly I buy protein shakes, cheese, lean ham deli meat, chicken, steak, and hamburger.
-
Sure it's normal to worry. It's a new phase of your life, a new adventure that you haven't done before. It's all a matter of trial and error within the parameters that your nutritionist set out for you. Hang in there, it gets easier with practice.

Lost my taste for plain water
GradyCat replied to Jobber's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I only drink plain water when I eat out at restaurants because I'm not supposed to be drinking while eating anyway. At home I drink flavored sugar-free Crystal Light in water. -
You've just reminded me that my surgeon's office offers group training sessions or lectures each month, but I haven't been to one yet. I might have to check one out.
