Hospital BC - still waiting in my room
GradyCat replied to Its_Ashley's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
How are you feeling now post-surgery? Sorry you had such a frustrating experience. -
Now thinking if canceling surgery 🥺
GradyCat replied to Happy Stylist's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
So I had been taking the medication (Omeprazole/Prilosec) for 5+ years. About a month before the sleeve surgery I was required to stop taking it for 2 weeks in order to take an H-Pylori test. I stopped cold turkey and never took it again either before or after surgery. I had an endoscopy 18 months after WLS, I can't remember why, and my surgeon showed my evidence of GERD anymore. I never restarted taking it. -
So happy for you! Many best wishes on your continued WLS journey and successes.

It's a wonderful thing, isn't it? Congratulations on your success so far and best wishes on your continued WLS journey.

Now thinking if canceling surgery 🥺
GradyCat replied to Happy Stylist's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had the sleeve and my GERD and acid reflux actually went away. I had it before surgery but not after. Just FYI. Also, you could just opt to do the bypass instead of the sleeve. -
That's just a week away! Good luck on your WLS journey.

Just had revision
GradyCat replied to Daddyof4's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Congratulations on your revision. Glad you're recovering well. -
Nuclear stress test done

You're getting closer and closer. Good luck on your WLS journey. -
Same here. I gained 30 pounds back during COVID but recently re-lost them. I eat around 1000 calories a day and 75 g protein.

Mental & Behavioral Change
GradyCat replied to ocdennise's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Good luck with your upcoming revision. I gained back 50% of my weight during COVID, but have recently lost it back again. I still struggle with eating due to boredom or stress. -
5 Months out. Just had a whole candy bar.
GradyCat replied to GodsProperty's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Don't kick yourself too much for having the candy bar, but don't make it a habit. I used to take Prilosec/Omeprazole prior to WLS (sleeve) but ever since WLS I haven't needed it. The GERD and acid reflux are gone. -
As you have learned from dealing with your issues with alcoholism (Congratulations, by the way, for 10 years sober) you need to avoid triggers and you need counseling to deal with issues that cause you to not live life to your fullest or happiest (such as eating disorders, addictions, etc.) I wouldn't focus too much on putting a label on your food issues, whether it's Binge Eating Disorder or Food Addiction or just plain Morbid Obesity . . . it's clear you have an issue with food that you need to deal with. WLS is a tool that will help you lose the weight, yes. But the bigger battle is the mental battle. Get into some good counseling to talk about your food triggers and issues and good luck on your WLS journey.

What Does Binge Eating mean
GradyCat replied to thinblueline's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Some key points about Binge Eating Disorder: A disorder involving frequent consumption of large amounts of food, and uncontrollable eating. Common (More than 200,000 cases per year in US) Treatable by a medical professional Doesn't require lab test or imaging Can last several months or years Common for ages 18-35 More common in females Family history may increase likelihood If you think this might be an issue for you, again, I recommend you seek counseling to deal with these issues BEFORE you undergo Weight Loss Surgery. -
What foods have you broken up with?
GradyCat replied to Smanky's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I wish I could divorce cookies. Seriously, they're mean to me. They make me break out in fat. 😀 My stomach post-sleeve can't stand potatoes or pasta more than a spoonful or fork full. -
I wondered that myself and thought about Jenny craig, nutrisystem, or those Hello Fresh type of home delivery meal kits. But then I thought, wouldn't frozen "Weight Watchers" or "Atkins" dinners work?

Negative comments from family members
GradyCat replied to fourmonthspreop's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I didn't tell my family or anyone for just that reason. I don't want to hear the negativity and judgment. Only my husband knows. -
You've been through a lot. Could it be scar tissue causing the pain?
-
I was already under the care of a psych, so I didn't have any trouble getting an appointment to have it done. I know that post-covid it's been really hard to get in to see any specialists for several months waiting for an appt. Hang in there.
-
Welcome, Stephanie and good luck on your upcoming bypass surgery. Spend some time browsing the forums and you'll find all sorts of advice and information from pre-surgery diet, post-surgery diet, what to take to the hospital, what to expect right after WLS, etc.
-
Yep, it's a normal new thing post WLS. Me too.

Did you lose your tummy fat last?
GradyCat replied to DaisyAndSunshine's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My belly still has a belly even after 60 pounds lost. Not huge, but it's a tough area to reduce. -
First, I'm sorry for your loss. Second, it happens. It happened to me. I gained close to 30 pounds back during COVID, but the good news is that the WLS still works and I was able to successfully lost that 30 pounds back just recently. It's possible. You can do it. Take care of yourself and get back to the basics and you'll be successful.

Getting to ONEderland is a big deal. Enjoy the feeling! Congratulations and wishing you much success on your continued WLS journey.

As mentioned in my response to one of your previous posts, counseling would be a good idea now pre-surgery so you can deal with some of these issues.

I drink GNC premade Lean Shakes, 25 g protein, gluten and lactose free. I am lactose intolerant now post WLS but I'm not sure if the surgery did it or old age caused it.
