GradyCat replied to Mariann812's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I don't know what size my hiatal hernia was, but they repaired it at the same time they did the sleeve surgery. -

I hope you get some good answers on here from someone with MS who has had WLS. Good luck. -
Weight loss starts when?
GradyCat replied to linzcarr's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You have to keep in mind that you were filled with gas/air and fluids in the hospital and your body is wondering what the heck just happened to it. You're recovering. The weight is going to drop like a rock any day now. QUIT WEIGHING! -
That's interesting. No, I had sleeve in 2018 and no issues with pooping or odor.

This is the first I've ever heard about sending a patient home with blood-clotting injection medication.
-
Medicare is my primary and I have a supplement. They approved my sleeve surgery without any issues.

GNC soft chews are good in a variety of flavors for all the vitamins we WLS patients need.

XL/Giant Milk Chocolate Hershey bars. They taunt me. 😆

I'm sorry for the loss of you mother, Gigi. Weight-wise you've done GREAT! Be kind to yourself right now and don't focus on your weight. Try to follow the diet program as much as your grief will allow.

Here's some suggestions: A rough guide for this method is: Vegetables: Should take up half your plate Protein-rich foods: For meat, poultry, eggs, fish, legumes, beans, tofu serve a quarter of your plate. Complex carbohydrates: Take a quarter of a plate of carbs, such as whole grains. High-fat foods: Including butter, cheese, and oil – take only half a tablespoon

Tracking vs mindful/intuitive eating?
GradyCat replied to mrsjo's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I've never been able to achieve "mindful" eating. I just can't grasp the concept. -
Pre surgery pre weight loss
GradyCat replied to C8cristy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's better to start your new eating/losing lifestyle now to get accustomed to what you'll be eating after WLS. Go for it! -
Question about hair loss after sleeve
GradyCat replied to SleeveToBypass2023's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I haven't lost any more hair or thinned hair more than it already was due to thyroid issues. I didn't have dry skin either post -WLS. I've tried everything: biotin pills, Rogaine, Nioxin . . . none if it helped. -
Yeah it falls off really fast the first couple of weeks. Enjoy.

Don't worry too much about stretching your stomach. It's hard to do, it would take a LOT of eating and effort to do it.
-
So there are many ways to look at this. One is that the food you will be eating may cost more but you'll be eating less food overall, therefore not increasing your grocery or food budget. Another way is that the cost of medicine and health vs the slightly increased cost of healthy food calculation, It's not a barrier, really.

They tell you that Carbs are Total Carbs and Net Carbs are Total Carbs minus sugar alcohols and fiber, but a number of doctors/surgeons I watch on YouTube say there's no such thing as "Net Carbs" - that your body doesn't know the difference and a carb is a carb is a carb so to speak.
-
The main things they're looking for are your overall health, okay from a cardiac standpoint, okay from a respiratory standpoint, okay from a psychiatric standpoint. They want to make sure you'll be successful and not set you up for failure. They want to make sure your thoughts about WLS are realistic and reasonable. They need you to have a BMI over 35 with comorbidities or 40 without comorbidities.

There's nothing wrong with 1000 calories/day. The gherelin hormone from surgery was suppressed for the first little while, so you weren't hungry.

That's a great Non-Scale Victory! Woot-Woot!

Nobody knows except my husband.

Are you asleep during gastric sleeve or sedation
GradyCat replied to Trixxx's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
It's a major invasive surgery . . . general anesthesia -
That's great! Keep up the good work.

Can I ask if insurance covers the revision?

Less than month preop weight gain
GradyCat replied to ItsChrissie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You shouldn't even be looking at the scale at this point. Just follow the program, stick to the program, heal, recover, and take care of yourself. The weight loss will happen on its own. Quit watching it.
