Feeling Good About Getting Back to Basics
GradyCat replied to GradyCat's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
Amen to that! -
Does your surgeon's office offer lifetime dietician counseling? I would call the doctor's office and their advice to specific to a nursing new mother.
-
Welcome to the forums, Rachel. Congrats on your WLS and having little to no adverse side effects or issues. Like you, I had no pain and just the 24 hours of nausea post-op while still in the hospital. You're going to be tired for about 5-7 days while your body is healing from major surgery but you'll bounce back in no time. Nice to meet you.

I have a prescription for Ambien. I take it every other night. I don't sleep well.

2 days until surgery, kinda terrified
GradyCat replied to Suzi_the_Q's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
No, it's not too extreme. It's something you need and have anticipated and are ready for. Some people have ZERO PAIN (me! I had NO PAIN!) and the nausea from the anesthesia lasts about 24 hours. That's only one day. You can tolerate anything for one day that's going to make a lifetime of difference to your health and body. Everybody gets nervous. It's not just you. Focus on why you're doing this. Focus on the long-term results. Pray if you're a praying person. It'll be okay. We're here for you. Check in with us afterward and let us know how you're doing. -
Water [emoji24]
GradyCat replied to bostonsbaby24@gmail.com's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I never drink plain water. Just can't do it. I have found a sugar-free peach tea mix (Kroger) that I like and I drink the hell out of it after mixing it with water. At restaurants I order water and take the peach tea packets with me to mix it. I drink at least 10 glasses a day. You can count coffee as water. You can also count sugar-free popsicles as water. -
Has anyones portion sizes increased back to how they used to be?
GradyCat replied to Meera's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Two years post-op and my stomach still has restrictions. I can eat anywhere from 1/2 cup to 1 cup but stay about 1/2 cup 97% of the time. It's not how much you CAN eat, it's how much you SHOULD eat. Measure your portions like your dietician prescribed for you. -
Yes, and it counts as water. Others here are talking about caffeine as the only issue. My surgeon didn't restrict me from caffeine, so it would be no problem. Of course I drink decaf coffee when I drink it, but I always have, even pre-op. So drink away and enjoy your green tea.

Those are good tips. Thanks for sharing. I am trying sugar-free flavored coffee syrup in a hot coffee when I think I'm "hungry" to stave off eating or grazing

Reached my goal weight today! Before and after photos.

Wow, way to go ! You're an inspiration! -
Not that I've noticed, my skin hasn't been any more or less dry than pre-op. I'm really bad about not applying lotion to my body as I can never seem to adopt the habit. I finally at age 52 or so started using facial moisturizer once or twice a day but for some reason I can't seem to find the time or motivation to lotion elbows, knees, feet, etc.

Any store, for instance Lane Bryant or Dillards or Macy's will measure you and do a "bra fitting" for you. I am a 40D and have gone to no padding and no underwire and it seems to keep my boobs in place. I generally buy Bali brand or Cacique.

Don't stress over a couple of pounds. There's always weight fluctuation with water and of course we just had the holidays and had extra rich food. Just keep on track with your protein and water intake and try not to slide and you'll be fine.

Weight Gain A Week In?
GradyCat replied to maddiegurl46's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I know my surgeon told us in our pre-op seminar to not eat mashed potatoes. Not that they'd hurt you necessarily, but because they aren't good for you (carbs) and she didn't want us getting back to old habits of eating unhealthy foods. No, you haven't stretched your stomach. It's pretty hard to stretch your stomach. I'm surprised you're eating soft foods just a week out, but every surgeon has different recommendations. Take it easy. Take tiny little bites. Take it slow. Congrats and best wishes on your WLS journey. -
Everybody's weight loss is different because we're different sizes, ages, genders and each body is different. So try not to compare yourself too much to others on here because it can be discouraging if you aren't benchmarking what they're doing. That being said, I think I lost 30 pounds in the first 3 months and yes I had to buy new (used) clothes and I felt so much better.

At three days post-op you're doing just fine. You just had major surgery and your body is trying to repair itself. You'll have full energy back in 5-7 days. A lot of people here talk about their taste buds changing post-op and not being able to stomach the protein drinks. I've always used premade GNC Lean Shakes and never had that problem. I'm two years post-op and still drink one every day.
-
Oh, that's wonderful! What a great side effect!
-
You're doing great. Quit waiting for the other shoe to drop, so to speak. Enjoy the ride! If a stall does happen, don't worry, it's normal and you'll get through it.

Sleeve scheduled Jan 9th!
GradyCat replied to newme2021's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I never had any pain/never took any pain meds and I was tired for about 3 days after getting home from hospital but could have worked from home online starting the first week. -
Thanks, Happy New Year to you.

6 weeks post op, everything seems to get stuck.
GradyCat replied to Tannedhaggis2's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Just take it slowly. Tiny, tiny little bites of soft food. Take it slow and don't rush the solid foods. You'll get something called "the foamies" from time to time which is throwing up mucus and a stuck feeling if you eat something your stomach isn't ready for or if you eat too much or too fast. Your body will tell you what it wants and doesn't want. Keep drinking those protein shakes to get your protein in if you need to -
It only took about two weeks for approval, but then my surgeon was booked up for a month on her schedule, so it took me a little while to get on the schedule for surgery.

Feeing Rough and Sleeve Blush
GradyCat replied to ANewJourneyAwaits's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
The good news is that it's all temporary and short-term. You'll feel really, really good in about 7-10 days. It's worth it. -
diagnosed with COVID before upcoming surgery

Please take care of yourself. COVID is serious stuff. -
How long ago did you have surgery? Which surgery did you have?
