    Post op diet

Many people here talk about not being able to tolerate the protein shakes, but I had no issues with them. Like others said, maybe you could water them down or try a different brand or a pre-made shake instead of a powdered shake. Sugar-free popsicles count as liquid. So does sugar-free jello.
  2. Here's something that might help. I've never used the powdered protein. I use the pre-made liquid protein drinks. Specifically, I use GNC Lean Shakes which are LACTOSE FREE!!!!! I think Fairlife might also be lactose-free, but you might want to check into that. The GNC Swiss Chocolate is my favorite and it has 25g of protein and tastes great. Are you drinking any Gatorade Zero to get some electrolytes in to hydrate you? It's sugar-free.
  3. I take a Lactaid only when I eat cheese or dairy, which is not very often, and I take it immediately when I start eating the dairy food. It works instantly. You don't have to worry about taking it 30 minutes before or anything, just when you start eating dairy. It doesn't build up in your system, it's an "as-needed" medicine for quick relief. I think it fights the enzymes that causes the bloating the diarrhea from the dairy. I carry it in my purse at all times in case I end up eating out somewhere with something that has cheese on it. And no, no more diarrhea if I eat dairy as long as I take a Lactaid.
  4. I had to look this condition up. It says obesity is a cause. I hadn't heard of this before. I have some hearing loss and tinnitus in one ear but my ENT says its Meniere's Disease.
  5. So sorry you're going through this. It is an emotional time with upcoming WLS and all. Lactose is a real thing at a certain age and I have to take Lactaid now with any dairy. It was causing me diarrhea. We're here to listen to you, so feel free to vent any time. We might not have an answer, but we'll listen and support and encourage you.

    First day back at work

Yes of course. Your body just went through major trauma and you're not eating a lot of food, so you might be a little shaky or dizzy when you stand up and fatigued for a little while after just returning to work. It gets better. Hang in there.

    Help with protein

Everything I eat has protein in it from processed Protein Bars, to Protein Chips, to Protein Shakes. There is a lot of food out there with extra protein in it if you're not getting enough whole foods to get it in. Eggs are an excellent source. For water, mix in some sugar-free flavored popsicles and put some sugar-free flavored powder in your water to make it more palatable.

    Sleeping Upright Post Op

I slept upright in the hospital for two nights post-op but once I got home I slept on my side and have ever since, not propped up or anything and I don't have any trouble.

Sounds like you need to consult with a different surgeon.

    I’m just going to ask!

You mean we were supposed to start having sex again?! 😀 I honestly don't remember but I want to say like a month.

    Carbonated drinks

Yes but I can only drink maybe 2 oz as they bloat me.

    Did I Blow It?

Don't weigh yourself right now. Just follow the process and the weight will drop off. Just because you CAN eat something doesn't mean you SHOULD. Watch your portion sizes.

    Just ordered my shakes

The two weeks before and after WLS are challenging due to being liquid or limited. Good luck on your WLS journey.

    Surgery may 2nd

Congrats on getting your surgery date. That's a good time of year to have WLS. I happen to enjoy premade protein shakes, I use GNC Lean Shakes, so it was relatively an easy two weeks for me.

    Today is the day!!

Good luck today and on your continued WLS journey.
  19. Just stick to the plan until surgery to keep your liver from being fatty for surgery. One slip up isn't the end of the world.

    Video of surgery?

I can't imagine they'd share that with you even if they had it.

    Utter regret

I'm glad you're reaching out here, but I'm going to steer you to a therapist/counselor. Please deal with those suicidal thoughts. Don't ignore them - - - deal with them. Like others said, maybe your hormones are out of whack post-surgery. Did you go through a psych eval before WLS to make sure you had realistic expectations of both results as well as the recovery period? Go see that counselor and talk about these feelings you are having. PLEASE GET HELP NOW!

    I've always wondered.....

Those are good questions. I always wondered about that too.

    Advice!

No food funerals! Eat like you're going to be eating post-WLS and for the rest of your life.

    First day of purée diet

Were you already having nausea? Are you eating too quickly? Is the food not pureed enough? Lots of reasons. See how long it lasts when you change things up.
