GradyCat replied to Hopefulin2021's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I know you were super nervous and confused about the approval dates given versus the actual surgery date. Congrats. Advice: Take the pre-op diet seriously and follow it to the letter to shrink your liver and prepare for surgery. Know that you're going to be nauseous for 24 hours after surgery and it's miserable, but it's only for 24 hours and you can survive it. -
When you can't finish your meal
GradyCat replied to BigSue's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yeah, I do that sometimes and I think the experts call it "grazing" where you eat every couple of hours, just a few bites, but not three specific set meals. If left unchecked you might be "grazing" too often, but then again seeing as how you've already laid out the correction portion and that's all you're eating, just in multiple settings, it doesn't seem as though there's any harm in it. You're doing the right thing by stopping when you feel full. -

I'm so sorry for your loss. You are doing a great job and looking FABULOUS! Keep up the good work. -
You just wait it and out and keep doing what you're doing. It might last 2 weeks. No worries. It all starts moving again. Hang in there.

I know some of you struggle with getting in all the protein we're required to get. So I got to thinking, "Why do we need all of this protein?" and "How are we supposed to get in the protein without the calories?" My surgeon and nutritionist don't count calories. They won't even discuss it. They focus on getting in the protein and water and exercising and eating whole foods rather than processed foods. So I thought I'd share a couple of infographics about why the protein is so important for dieters and WLS patients to help us all better understand and know why we're doing it.

Insurance requirement of a year of weights/BMI's
GradyCat replied to ckrackley's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My plan, not the same insurance carrier as yours, needed documentation of MONTHLY weigh-ins for the past year. -

I've thought about it. Been temped to join WW online and see what their new system is. It worked for me in 2006 and was easy to follow. I keep seeing the commercials for it.

Mix it up a little. All no-calorie/low-calorie liquid counts. Sugar-free popsicles are water. Gatorade Zero is water. Coffee is water. Hot tea is water.

Weight stall - Insight/Encouragement needed
GradyCat replied to kelclrk's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Your body is wondering what the hell you just did to it. It went through a major trauma of surgery and is healing. Now you're feeding it way less than it's used to getting. It happens. It really is okay, I promise you. You're doing everything right. I can't explain the science to you, I just know it's real. For instance, I have been eating 650-800 calories for the past 12 days. For the first 5 days I lost weight. For the next 3 days, I GAINED weight. How the hell do you gain weight on 800 calories/day? But I did and I figured it was my body adjusting, plus I was eating green olives, which are high in sodium. So now fast forward two more days and it's slowly coming down again. Weight fluctuations are normal. Take it easy on yourself and take care and trust the process. 😀 -
1 week post gastric bypass
GradyCat replied to Bushaboo's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Way to go getting through the first little stretch post-op. You'll feel better and better each day. We're here to support and encourage you. Keep us updated on your progress. -
I don't mean to sound discouraging, but you seem like you're at a pretty good weight and would be successful with diet and exercise. Like the others have said, you don't seem to qualify for weight loss surgery that insurance would pay for with your BMI.

Shedding post holiday weight
GradyCat replied to Lovely2020's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
How are you getting your phentermine? Did the surgeon prescribe it? I would love to have some of that! 😀 Anyway, back to the subject at hand. I started back on track on December 26th, the day after Christmas, and have lost 5 pounds. I just went back to basics of 600-800 calories/day (which my sleeve helps me do), 60+ grams of protein, copious amounts of water, and very few carbs. Good luck in 2021! -
Having low blood sugar post-op VSG
GradyCat replied to NewlySleeved12282020's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had the same thing, syncope, upon standing for the first few weeks, but then my body regulated itself. I did drink Gatorade Zero every day. Sugar is not the answer. 72-85 is a normal blood sugar range. I think you're okay. -
Oh gosh, what a rumor going around!

This is just the Rider making a change about Gastric Bypass. Where is the original policy language that talks about bariatric surgery? There should be more information there to make this more clear. (I used to be an insurance adjuster).
