i'm pre-op, for the second time
GradyCat replied to gabbykittyvsg's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm curious about revisions. What are the criteria for qualifications for such? Do you still have to be a 40 BMI or just have a complication from original WLS? -
Post op - Liquid Only - Suggestions?
GradyCat replied to CowboyKurt's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I really liked getting in the protein shakes and for some "crunch" factor I relied on sugar-free popsicles in a variety of flavors. They were a lifesaver. -
Don't forget that sugar-free popsicles count as a liquid and they come in many fun flavors. Also hot liquids fill you up more, so coffee, hot tea, chicken broth are good and filling.

Okay, this is going to sound obvious, but . . . just because you CAN eat more doesn't mean you SHOULD. The surgery is just a tool. The rest is up to you. Don't push it. Stick with small portions.

You are ROCKING it! Way to go! Happy New Year to a happy new healthier you.

Do You loose weight slower
GradyCat replied to Neubian60466's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
That's interesting. I didn't know that. Still, 35 pounds in 2 months sounds really good. Way to go! -
2 pounds a week is very sustainable and a good way to ensure the weight will stay off. Your calories sound right in line. I'd be happy with 2 pounds a week. Way to go!

Protein intake day 4 question
GradyCat replied to Motortech's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Not to worry. But try to pace yourself and not gulp or guzzle and just sip and maybe take the 11 oz over a 30 minute period. -
Weirdest None-Scale-Victory - I'll go first
GradyCat replied to chiquitatummy's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Oh that IS weird and funny and a wonderful non-scale victory. I think one of mine might be not wearing WIDE shoes anymore. Now I'm just a regular medium width foot. -
I do lots of bicep curls with soup cans and overhead reaches to try to keep my arms toned.
-
Me too! I'm just assuming it's because I'm more "fit." I also noticed that when I started back at the gym after not being there since COVID, I didn't have to wean myself in and could immediately do a 30-45 minute workout instead of having to start at 10 minutes and work my way up. It was reassuring that I hadn't totally lost all of my fitness abilities. I was worried that I wasn't working out hard enough because I wasn't sweating profusely like before, but my heart rate monitor shows I'm doing good, so I'm happy not to be drenched.

I prefer a light-industrial to gym-grade quality piece of fitness equipment. I'd say around $2,000 should get you something really good and durable for home use.

One thing you can do is track your measurements instead of your weight. You may be adding muscle and that's okay. Also, keep tracking your food intake, including grazing the snacks, for the rest of your life. It keeps your accountable and aware of what you're putting in your body.

I can honestly say that I've been to the gym every day this year!!!! 😁 (It's only Jan 1) But seriously, I started back to the gym on Nov. 22 and have been 35 out of the last 40 days (I had a stomach virus for a few days that kept me out) and I feel so much better emotionally and mentally and I'm sure it's going to benefit my overall physical health and weight-loss efforts as well. We can do this!!

Hmmm, I've always thought that those women with larger breasts didn't feel as much pain with mammograms because they had plenty of tissue to "smush" in the machine whereas women with small breasts had less to deal with so the machine pressed them together more. Just a thought.
-
Now I'm using WW proprietary food tracking app that includes activity and weight, but before that I was using FitnessPal, which has both free and premium paid options. It works really well.
-
Sipping consistently throughout the day is better than gulping or guzzling. Try adding a sugar-free flavored water enhancer to it to encourage you to drink more. They're inexpensive, available in lots of flavor options.
-
I'm curious how this turned out. Did you end up having the surgery? Did he change his mind? My husband was incredibly supportive of my decision to have surgery and is still supportive of my post-bariatric needs. I can't imagine going through this process without that support. Thinking of you.

Just like any annoying ex, food will try to get back in your life at some point, so keep some boundaries in that relationship.😁

Your body has reset its hunger signals. That's a WONDERFUL thing! Embrace it.

Sharing photos and your journey on social media will be inspiring for so many. Good luck with your WLS!

Only 9 pounds almost 4 weeks post op
GradyCat replied to GiGi 1970's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Everybody and I mean EVERYBODY hits the infamous Week 3 (sometimes Week 4) Stall and yes it can last several weeks but it's perfectly normal. While frustrating, it's to be expected. Just keep doing what you're supposed to be doing, getting in the protein and the water, and the weight loss will come. I promise. -
Only 9 pounds almost 4 weeks post op
GradyCat replied to GiGi 1970's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
You are perfectly on track. Don't rush the process. The surgery is a tool but not an instant fix. And there will be a stall in Week 3 or 4, everybody gets it, so don't think you're getting too many calories or have done something wrong. Trust the process and take it slowly. -
I'm 3 years post-op and average around 1,000 calories a day.
